If our Irish Setter was up and/or walking, she would suddenly slump to the floor and we knew she was starting the seizure. If she was laying down, she would just start to spasm. No rhyme or reason. I cracked up when I read Madelaine Amee's hard wired comment. I shouldn't admit this, but we used to call our seizure dog "Sponge" or "Sponge Brain" because she wasn't quite wired correctly. Of course, this was with love and she would answer to Sponge as much as Amber (her name). She had a tuft of hair on her head that was curly, not typical for an Irish. We always said her brain cells weren't quite right and the hair wasn't growing right. Oh, how I miss all my setters! They were each so different and loved so much.

That had crossed my mind. We had stopped at someone's house earlier in the day. My dog was messing around the perimeter of the house, as was the other person's dog. I figured it was a safe area because she had her dog staked out there. After the seizure later in the day, it crossed my mind that maybe someone had sprayed chemicals either on the bushes or around the house. Just drawing at straws trying to figure out what possible things might have triggered it so we can avoid it in the future. But it sounds like some people never know what causes it.

You can ask your pesticide company what they are using and ask that they refrain from anything dangerous for dogs.

We have talked to them in the past. They say they don't use anything that will hurt pets and that it is safe once it dries. I don't believe that. So I don't let my dog go on any areas that I know have been treated in the past 2 weeks. I figure two weeks of rain and sprinklers going off will have diluted it so that it is safe. Our dog doesn't like this grass anyway, so getting her to walk in the yard doesn't work out too well anyway. My husband takes care of spraying for bugs because I am sensitive plus he doesn't want to harm the animals.
