As far as discovering a need to go on a walk. A dog uses scent far more than sight. A male dog will pee on every tree that catches his attention-HEY GUYS I WAS HERE.
Some dogs seem to try to cover their leavings by scratching. There are glads in his feet that give off a scent and that is the motive.
I LIKE DOGS BUT, RESPECT FOR THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS IS ALWAYS NECESSARY-TRULY SIMPLE.

The problem isn't dogs at all, it is people who believe that their rights are more important than their responsibilities. This is not limited to any particular generation either.

Ya know... I wonder if your statements are out of date. None of my four male dogs were markers (peeing every three feet to make sure other dogs knew they were there.). It kind of depends on when they were neutered, and the prevailing thought at their time was to neuter by 6-9 months (further research says that's not good, wait a year). Even the one neutered at a year did not mark. At any rate, it is the non-neutered dogs that tend to mark. And there are very few non-neutered dogs these days.

Again, I fear you are making a blanket accusation. But I will say that a short leash and owner control will keep any dog, neutered or not, from going on someone's lawn. And that's the right thing to do.

We had one that was a marker, he was also an alpha and also had been neutered before a year. I guess it depends on the dog. We keep all of our dogs on a short leash and are careful where we let them go.

That's the best solution. Covers all possibilities.

The point of the the first post was not whether you pick it up or not, but if you allow your dog to come on someones private property to do it.

I kind of disagree with that. I thought the point of the post was to throw the statement out to the general population for comment.

Comments in this case can go all over the place. I find it interesting, actually. It's a diverse conversation. Kind of what a forum is about.

The Mods will tell us if we've gone too far off topic.

Yes, it IS interesting.
Perhaps in our older age, many people get bent out of shape for too many minor things because they don't have enough to gripe about; insignificant things are magnified to grandiose purportions!
They make mountains out of mole hills.
They just can't let many of these things fade into nothingness
!

That is very interesting but I know that in the deed restrictions there are a few feet of easements. Would that area be exempt?

Regardless of where you live, there are always county and utility easements which generally are around ten feet or so of the front of a homesite, in addition to easements on the sides and back of a home.

While the homeowner maintains these areas and they show up on a survey that shows ownership, it would be very costly to sue someone for trespass.

I'd be willing to bet the homeowner loses!

Likewise!

Bitter? No, but as the O.P. of this thread, I found the comment I copied offensive, angry and to use your word -- bitter.

I purposely did not comment on it initially because I thought perhaps it just hit me wrong. I have not changed my opinion and was even very surprised that it passed the Moderator's smell test and was not removed.
I found the comment arrogant!

My real opinion is that too many "old" people here get bent out of shape for too many insignificant things.
My use of "old" is not a chronological number; it is a mindset!

You love animals deeply, purely, passionately, and I think that is a good thing. Some others don't love them like you do. There has been too much hateful banter on this forum today. In my humble opinion.

She never walked our way again, said there was crazy man on that end of the street. She was a college professor at the local college and just did not get it.

Here in the Villages a few weeks ago I was at Walgreen's and a woman let her dog take a poop right in front of the door. I ask her what she was going to do about that and she said she didn't have anything to pick it up with. I said I have your picture and will be turning it over the the police, she came back with a tissue and picked it up from the clean end and placed it in the trash can. I just don't get some people, are they that stupid!

No, almost guaranteed that they're not..."that stupid."

Also almost guaranteed, they are just totally and thoroughly...rude, selfish and inconsiderate.

. . . and make sure you put that sign next to one of those little white crosses so it will be noticed!

Ooops. Next conversation, please! :a040:
