I have seen it in Publix and Fresh Market. Best to ask someone where it's located, because I cannot remember.

I buy ground flaxseed at the local Health Food Store, beside Bonefish.
It has to be kept in the refrigerator.

I take flaxseed capsules.
Is the ground stuff "much" better than the pill form?
It sounds like you know more than I know and that's why I'm asking.

I think we get ours at Walmart, Spring Valley brand. Container says nothing about refrigeration.

I was told that freshly ground flaxseed is best for you. So we bought a coffee grinder, which we use to grind whole golden flaxseed right before we use it. We purchased a 16-oz package at Lake Nutrition Center (352-750-0094), 1112 Bichara Blvd, Lady Lake, FL 32159

I grind mine with a coffee grinder too as I throw it into things. It's carried in most natural food areas of a grocery store. I found the whole seeds do not appear to digest well and come out the same way they go in.

You can buy it already ground too. Does that have the same nutritional value as the whole seeds that you would then grind yourself?

What is the benefit of eating flax? I love those crackers with flaxseed that a lot of people buy at Sam's.

Flaxseed is supposed to have many benefits ... I really don't know if it has been scientifically vetted. I add ground flaxseed to my smoothies.

Plant source of omega 3. A tablespoon adds 8 grams of fibre and aids digestion. Flax contains ligans which alter the way our body metabolizes estrogen. Good for improving cholesterol.

Flaxseed must be ground, no benefit if eaten whole. Once ground, it can spoil quickly which is why I refrigerate it. Since it provides a lot of fibre, it's best to start using small amounts to avoid bloating.

Muffin In a Minute

1/4 cup flax seed meal
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon stevia powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 egg
1 teaspoon oil

Mix all ingredients in a coffee mug.

Micorowave for one minute on high.

(If using frozen berries, microwave for 1:30 on high.)

Smooth on some butter and enjoy!

It will be moist at first, but as the muffin cools it goes away.
