I keep reading on here that TV is a "dog friendly community", and people with an aversion to dogs, or allergic to dogs should not have moved here. I have neither, but am just curious...just where is this information imparted? I came on a Lifestyle Preview, several friends have, we have a lot of literature about The Villages, and none of us ever remember that being an outstanding selling point. I never imagined pets wouldn't be allowed, so truthfully, I never asked. And I read there are communities that wouldn't allow dogs...never researched that either. Again, just curious...not looking for an argument.

I think you can have two dogs per home--not sure if that counts two animals per household--

I did hear that. 2 pets...you can move in with more but can't replace as you lose any. My neighbor has 2 dogs and a cat. Moved in with dog and cat, got another dog as company for the 1st dog. I couldn't care less...it's his house, he feeds them.

Our pets give us so much in return. It would sure be nice if they villages had planned a small area in each village for the pups to congregate and do their business. A flusher or container for the poops would be the cats . . (eh the dogs?) meow. Of course I'd miss watching all the dog walkers and their "little bags" waving every day. I so enjoy my doggie neighbors and their human owners too.

I frequently use the dog park over by paradise but never use the other two. I've recently seen a lot of people walking their dogs around the newly built trail that runs by the dog park but never utilizing the dog park to socialize their dogs. I've had some owners tell me " Oh, I can't bring her in there, she's scared of other dogs". Yeah. You wander why?

Same here (in some ways). Can't imagine not having a pet....

I know I have read this is a dog friendly community too, but nothing in the literature from the developer that promotes that point that I ever remember seeing. There may have been some posts on this forum that occasionally say if you don't like it here, you can easily sell your house, make a profit and move, but that isn't the general consensus of feeling, I don't think.

I think that it is easy to see on a visit here that dogs are very present. What exactly is your question?

There are differing deed restrictions about pets based on WHERE you live in The Villages. Bogie will probably link you to those.

Yes TV is a dog friendly community. That is until dog owners allow their dog to poop in other peoples yard, drink from water fountains, or take them to restaurants. When those things are done one will become a hot topic on TOTV and the dog owner should be publicly flogged.

I, as well, don't really understand your question?? In any community, if pets are "allowed"..... it is considered "pet friendly". If dogs are allowed on a beach, it is considered a "pet friendly beach". If a hotel, RV park, park, etc.....it is considered "pet friendly". I don't believe there is anything "promoting" the Villages as being "pet friendly"...just the fact that they are allowed makes it so. I guess that folks that would rather not be around them for whatever reason can search out ares that do NOT allow pets.

So many seniors lose a spouse, are separated from family, are lonely...many reasons, and they want the companionship of an animal. I think since this is a community of seniors, you do see quite a few pets. I know that as long as I am able, I will have a pup or two.

Now that's just mean.....why turn a nice conversation about pets into a nasty remark?

It was not meant to be mean. It was a joke.

I don't believe there is anything "promoting" the Villages as being "pet friendly"...just the fact that they are allowed makes it so.

There are many retirement communities that do not allow pets at all. Others allow one pet under 25 lbs. It is rare to find a community that allows two dogs, or even one large dog. We have two dogs, one weighs 70 lbs. We simply couldn't find another retirement community that would allow two dogs per household with no size restrictions. And I bet we're not the only people that chose The Villages because they allow multiple pets.

We purchased in The Villages because of their liberal pet policy, and because it is a golf-cart community. And it turns out we hit the jackpot! There couldn't be a finer retirement community anywhere in North America.

As Gerryann said, any facility that allows dogs is normally referred to as "pet friendly". Google "pet friendly motels" or "pet friendly beaches" ... it's a commonly used term, not one made up specially for The Villages.

Gotcha! The question was pretty straightforward and I got good answers. Like I said, I can't imagine NOT having pets, and have kitties that stay inside (heaven forbid those little prissy-pants have to walk in grass :) ) so it wasn't a question I asked. Guess I never realized there are places that don't allow pets (except apartments). I just hear it a lot on here, as if it was a big selling point.

I see your question as right on point. I am a dog lover, but I side with if they are not properly managed they can be very troublesome. I did not see you as stirring the pot.

Thank you. Sometimes I wonder if I am writing in tongues...I write one thing and someone invariably translates it to another. Albeit, the written word can be interpreted so many ways, and you can't type inflection...still???
I was never even going into the properly managed thing, I really was just curious. The answer was pretty simple, like "pet friendly motels" etc. I never gave it a thought.
Anyway, I know where it's coming from...too bad you guys don't, but c'est la vie.

Add to that the vast differences in sensitivity. I am constantly misunderstood, but try to let it go. If you become defensive you will be misunderstood and frustrated. Also, some folks will complain about the rain until the sun comes out, then it's too hot.

Amazing. It takes days for a heated dog thread to finally die off, and then someone else starts a new one and claims that they are not starting an argument.

And that one seemingly runs its course, lies dormant for eight hours until you bump it back to the top.

Given the continued polarized opinions expressed on this topic, it seems naive to think this thread would not bring forth an argument.

Just like you tell someone who really does like pets but is allergic to move. That is not nice either

There are 83.3 million dogs in America with 47% of households owning at least one dog.
It seems to me that there is a 47% chance you will live near a dog.

Not move....just make better decisions regarding where to live. The allergy symptoms described were quite severe. If I had symptoms that severe I would find a "no pets allowed " community.

Took a while for the minions to rally...guess the PM's were slow going yesterday. Anyway, I didn't "claim" anything, nor did I "START" anything. You all have the freedom to read, reply, or pass!! Wish some didn't feel like they MUST write on every post. I got my answer, know where some people are coming from with that wording...period, end. Simple question, some fairly simple answers...until the seed was planted.
