Much like the weight loss support group, this could be sort of like a daily journal. I actually started this in Illinois and carried it over on the phone here. A couple of friends and I check in every night and say what one good thing we did for ourselves today. It keeps up our spirits and actually helps us to be mindful of the fact that we should absolutely love ourselves first, because then we are open to love others in a much more meaningful way. OK, Today I spent an entire day with two really good and true friends. I allowed myself the luxury of giving all my time for this day to them. And it was wonderful.

*** As a starting point you must believe you deserve the best, only then will you receive it. ;)

I had lunch and spent the afternoon playing games (couples mah jong)with good friends. Then we went as a group to dinner. All in all it was a delightful day filled with laughter and camaraderie. By the time I got home, American Idol had been TIVO'd and I could watch commercial free. I thought David Cook rocked.

Thanks, Chelsea, for reminding us to do something for ourselves, every day. After I read your post, I was trying to think of what I had done for ME today............. And when it took me too long to think of anything - I decided that I'm going to work on taking time for me every day! For those of us who are still working - and have grandkids close by - "something for me" often gets lost in the shuffle. I did finally think of something though. It's been so cold/icky here lately (MN) - but it was warm and sunny yesterday. I walked out onto the patio, looked up at the sun, went in and got a chair, and decided to forget about work for a while - and sat there enjoying the warm sunshine.......... It was wonderful!
And, today, I made cookies - mostly for me! (Does it count if you feel guilty when you're done???????????

Hi Marcia, we have to put guilt aside to do something good for ourselves. Guilt is a manmade emotion anyway. Good for you! It sounds like you've done a couple of great things for yourself today. Today, I've been running around picking out new flooring, so I'm going to take a well deserved nap. I love late afternoon naps and never seem to find time anymore. Hope others are doing good things for themselves and will continue to post.
;D I put this in the Feminine Forum because I think as women are so used to being caretakers, we forget to take care of ourselves. ;)

Today I did several things for myself, therefore also for those I love. I took care of my health by going to the gym at Colony Cottage (a great facility), worked out while watching CNN, then went home and did some much dreaded but necessary paperwork. I hate paperwork!
But getting it done was good for me, and my reward was a nice afternoon nap, and having time to spend with some of my new friends from TOTV tonight at Whiskey Creek. Looking forward to that!
Thanks again, Chelsea, for starting this topic ~ let's keep it going!
:)

I love this new thread. Thanks Chelsea for starting it.
Today, I left work early, something I rarely do. I called a new friend long distance and got my TV fix. Now I am energized to work on things to get this house on the market. All of this has made me feel good and of course a quick visit here is making me feel even better. ;D

Today I took a quiet moment and read one of my favorite poems of Robert Frost.

C'mon sistahs, either you're not doing anything good for yourselves or you're not posting?

I hope it's not the first. You deserve something good. What is it? ;)

Good Luck. I served my time on the school board and I don't think it will work that way!!
I would recommend to them that they should give you a golden parachute and full retirement early so you can get back to TV. Three days a week is just to much to be working! ;)

What one good thing did I do for myself today?

I went to work, to my classroom, today...yes, Sunday. Organizing, grading, and filing all the paperwork from my 3 day absence in a quiet, peaceful, empty room was doing something EXTRA special for myself. Preparing for this week's lessons in leisure was also a treat. Otherwise, I'd be cramming it all in during a 45 minute planning period tomorrow and having to stay after school late.

Actually, I ride the statioary bike verrrrry slowly, while I watch Judge Judy on the TV with the earpiece on, 5 minutes on the treadmill with an incline, then do one or two half-laps in the heated swimming pool and then soak in the hot-tub-spa and socialize with friends. For myself today, I've fiddled with my plants outside.
Always relaxing to me. It's quiet except for the birds.
And allows my mind to really wander.

And occasionally I do this to relieve stress:

You're on Beady! Anytime, let me know. I bet the Root Beer Floats at Bruster's are amazing. I finally had their ice cream yesterday and it's wonderful. Coldstone is on 441 at the end of the Walmart Plaza. I guess Im a cheapskate because I got in line for icecream at Coldstone , waited in lin approx 15 minutes and when I got up to the counter I saw that one scoop was about 4.00 dollars. So I said no thankyou and left. It is very expensive icecream. Ill bet Brusters is just as good if not better without the big$$$$$$$.

Rokinronda
04-24-2008, 05:02 PM

Rokinronda.... nothin like A&W... but I think only us New Englanders would know that!

Can you all here me slurping :beer2:

Just Susan
04-25-2008, 02:27 AM
Beady, Chels & Ronda, we have A&W in Minnesota, and I remember one in San Francisco, but it was not real big out there. I want to go with you on your hunt...it gives such validity to "why we can't start dieting just yet." Kind of like hero status, you know taking one for the team and all that sort of thing.

Much as I wish to be, I can't be there, so I am requesting that you hold off on the Hot Fudge Sundae Crusade until I can join you. OMG just imagine wading through miles and miles of bubbly, thick, rich, hot fudge overflowing the glass...taking with it some of the fluffy whipped cream as it makes it's way to the pool of yummy delicious, puddling at the base of the glass. This is no time for a spoon. A more primitive form of attack is called for...oh sorry I got carried away. Anyway wait for me on this one okay?

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj277/lake21brook/IMG_2377_edited-1.jpg

Nonie I have to go with you on Coldstone....too expensive...too sweet...to thick and creamy. I can just feel my arteries hardening when I have eaten that brand.

renielarson
04-25-2008, 02:32 AM
Well, my first and only trip to Cold Stone was a real shocker. I didn't know they put WHOLE candy bars in the order so I ordered a double...OMG....I couldn't believe it! But...I ate the whole thing. :barf:

That was BEFORE I started to watch what I ate and lose weight.

Sorry I won't be able to join you on the ice cream hunt (whether sundaes or floats or whatever). There is a point I have to draw the line, and regrettably this is it....much to my dismay.

But I'll be waiting for your comments...and savoring every word!

I know exactly what you're talking about pm. I pull out all the stops when babysitting our 2 and 4 year old grandsons.

They get whatever they want to eat...cookies, ice cream, jello, pudding, fruit rollups, yogos, etc....I'm an easy sell....

Plus my house is a complete disaster while they are here. Yes, forts and all...plus water gun fights, nerf sword wars, bunny hops, and power ranger/spiderman/bee/bear/elephant/alligator dress up and pretend time. Aren't the little buggers a joy?

I even themed 2 bedrooms in their honor. One is a "bug" room....the other a "jungle" room.

I love every second of it and get to enjoy them again this Friday night.

I'm going to sit back and imagine the grilled chicken alfredo. Yes, I have a vivid imagination and it tantalizes my taste buds...the rich creamy velvety sauce is smooth and seasoned to perfection. The noodles are cooked al dente allowing the sauce to coat each piece like a gentle rain slowly dripping down a window. Oh, what a taste sensation.

OK, it's about time to eat for real....a soy meatball sandwich in a diet bun and baked french fries....

#1 You have a great shape and are not fat at all.

#2. I love Bright dearly, but she eats the most disgusting food there is. I am so glad that is the only aspect of her that I find yucky. The rest of her is practically perfect. So if you want to imitate don't choose that one dimension of her. Starving is preferable to what she eats.

Dear Bare, I am far from trim. I just wear big clothes. No tight pants, shirts, dresses or shoes for me. I want my body unrestricted in case some wonderful dessert calls my name.
At our age you don't want to be hyper thin. You need something to plump out the wrinkles.

I have so much end-of-the-year school work to be done. Papers to be corrected, grades to be entered on the computer, student personal records to be updated, supplies to be ordered....

But I did none of that today...

Instead, I went to a barn party and wild game bbq. I sampled venison, steel head (trout), goose, elk, pheasant, and mule deer. Next year they are adding squirrel. Not sure I'm into eating squirrel. I overheard a friend asking if they would consider adding groundhog. I DRAWTHE LINE HERE!

IMHO, the best dishes of all were my homemade, from scratch mac and cheese and a friend's taco salad.

I didn't think twice about going off my diet...there's always tomorrow...

Oops...tomorrow's Mother's Day and I'm spending it at my daughter's house with another bbq...

Oh well, there's always Monday.

I stuck to my diet today!

The last 5 days have been :edit:.

First, we had a Teacher Appreciation Pizza Luncheon last Wednesday.

Then, on Friday, a dessert pot luck day at school. Friday evening, at our school carnival, I ate the most marvelous bbq (slow cooked all day right outside the school in a huge homemade bbq barrel type grill). After smelling the aroma all day long my willpower was shot!

Saturday was a barn party and wild game bbq with tons of homemade salads (very fattening and very very good) and desserts that were to die for. The wild game...well...

I don't even want to think about Mother's Day and the lip smacking bbq-ed chicken, corn on the cob, alfredo noodles, homemade rolls, artichoke dip, California rolls, and Magic Cookie Bars. Groaaaaaaaaan!

Today I started all over again...

I don't have dogs. As for the caretaker, I have to do all the things myself so he can see how I like them done. Ahhhhhhhhh, I adore clean. It puts order in my little world. I'm getting it together up here. We still haven't decided whether or not to put this house back up for sale. That means repeated trips back up here. I am so tired of that trip. Next week it's TV or bust!!! (Sure hope it's not bust!!!)
Today is a day of being on a tractor and mowing, then weed wacking. Mr Sam has been obsessed with his big John Deere, the Kubota RTV , chainsaw and wood splitter. He wants to put up about 10 cords of wood while we are up here. He loves being in the woods. I intend to drag him out to play poker tonight whether he wants to or not. A girl has to have some fun. I fear all this work will make me dull. On the bright side, by the time I return to TV, I should be "strong like bull" from all the stairs and manual labor. ;)

Lucky Sam, returning soon to TV. Sam, I completely understand the "man in the woods" syndrome. Fireboy is obsessed with cutting down trees with his chain saw, hauling them to the cottage with his backhoe, and then using his wood splitter. I'm supposed to do the stacking, ha ha. I'll be in the hot tub.

This year Fireboy is building a retaining wall at the Lake. Think of all the cutting and hauling. In some ways, it is rather endearing to see the little boy come out in a man. That is why we will always spend summers at the cottage, so he can move piles of dirt around with his backhoe. Oh well, I guess there are worse hobbies.

Fireboy told me recently that he actually prefers the cottage to TV. I've arranged for him to have a frontal lobotomy next week to correct that thought.

With all the pressure put on us teachers nowadays, I don't always have the time to really listen to stories my children want to tell. The day is short, the curriculum is demanding, and small talk is sometimes pushed aside.

Well, today...I made an effort to take extra time to listen to each and every story my 9 year olds wanted to share...and I listened giving each one my utmost attention. I hugged, high fived, laughed when appropriate, sighed when necessary, and truly enjoyed my kids for who they are. Not that I don't always enjoy them...but today was special.

It was a wonderful day...not only for them...but for me, too! I hate to see them move on to 4th grade...wish I could keep each and every one of them for another year...a great bunch of kids I have this year!

It was a day full of inspiring awe and love! This glorious morning, I thanked God for all of the blessings bestowed upon my life, as I often do. Then suddenly in the quietness of waking, our precious childs child cock-a-doodle-dood , literally. COCK-A-DOODLE-DO we called back in unison. It was one of her first words exchanged with us when she was very small and every time we are together it's our special good-morning greeting! The laughter, kisses, and love continues for hours and hours filled with singing, dancing, drawing, reading books, and twinkling smiling eyes of adoring wonderment. The best was when she took her ET doll, hugged and kissy kissed him, and lovingly placed him in her trikes front basket, wrapped tenderly in her blanky. Then in her continious conversation with ET she said "don't worwy baby I wiwl get you home"! So for myself, today, I wrote of a cherished memory, hopefully not to ever be forgotten!! Thanks for the reminder Chels, sometimes I take my animals for granted. So I just gave my beautiful Himalyan cat (who is 16 going on 5) a lot of attention. She comes up and hits me with her paw, so she makes her needs known. Today it is beautiful and sunny in Canada. I'll take the dogs for an extra-long walk. Not today, but on Sunday went to Baltimore for my granddaughter's ballet recital. Nothing cuter than 4-5 year olds in tutus. With some effort we managed to get her very long, very thick hair corralled into a bun, and my daughter-in-law stood her ground on outlawing the lipstick, blush, and eye shadow that the director wanted them to wear. Hi, I wanna come and join the golf cart tour. I don't want to be left behind. :( The golf cart goes 14 mph on a straight away and 24 mph going downhill.

We just had our two seater converted to a four seater. When the second set of seats are down we have a flat bed. Not to sure what we are going to put back there other than a harness for pups.

First time I have been on this tread - one of the best things I do for myself each day (when I can) is to log on to TOTV and see what every body is up to. Always puts me in a good mood.

I had my toe nails painted one shade lighter than da glo pink. It is part of my preparation for returning to TV.

Doing good for others is doing good for me...

For my grandson's 4th birthday party tomorrow, I made jello shots for the adults and jello jigglers for the kids. Plus I'm making the kids' favorite homemade Velvetta mac and cheese. My hubby is contributing 6 dozen ears of corn and will be behind the grill a few hours getting them steamy hot and sweetly delicious for the 30 or more guests!

And...I can hardly wait til my grandson opens our presents and finds himself all decked out with Transformers....costume, video, and toys! He loves to dress up and pretend...a future thespian perhaps?

I feel so good and it's not tomorrow yet!

Bright .. lovely story about the birthday party you're planning. I can just tase that corn.

I bought hanging baskets and balcony baskets which instantly transformed my huge deck. Now there are flowers everywhere I look. I filled all the bird feeders and the finches are lined up. The pregnant robins are loving it. I saw my first hummingbird today so put out a feeder for him. The chipmunks line up on the deck to eat the birdseed spilled by the birds. My dogs love to chase the chippies and squirrels (I always warn them ahead of time when I'm letting out the dogs to make sure they never catch them). It is a wonderful time of year in Canada.
