publix manager gets thanksgiving turkey award

Today my wife felt the holidays spirit and after doing her groceries at publix in Southern Trace she went back in and filled a cart with turkeys to give to the less fortunate when she got to the register before she could pay the bill the manager named Tim came up and in a very demeaning voice informed her she could not get them at the advertised price and would have tp pay an additional 50 cents per pound she explained she intended to give them away this made no difference to Tim my wife agreed she would have no problem paying the additional fee at which time acting immature he grabbed the cart from her hands and said they would all have to be re weighed . She asked for his name to report him to upper management and told him he could keep the turkeys she would shop elsewhere This attracted the attention of at least 7 other shoppers whom all told her they were appalled by his behavior . She did go to another store and 20 family's will have turkey on her she also called upper management to inform them of his inappropriate behavior. If you feel the same take time to let Tim manager at Southern Trace Publix know what a turkey he was

You wife did the right thing by notifying upper management. The store's manager needs some additional training, or worse.

I know of a Chiropractic office that is only a quarter of a mile from that Southern Trace Publix. :)

I haven't seen Publix's ad, but if it states how many turkeys a person may buy, the manager was within his right to limit her quantity. However, if his behavior was as stated by the OP, he was dead wrong in the manner in which he handled the situation.

No one really knows how "Tim" handled it. Only hearing one side of the story from an angry person. If the ad stated 2 to a customer, then it is 2 to a customer. Why should "Tim" care one way or another what she is going to do with them? Glad you felt the holiday spirit that day, but I would say Publix feels it all year. Believe they donated more than 50 million to United way last year. And know I don't work at Publix. I shop at Winn Dixie.

Tim should have seen this as an opportunity for free publicity of good will. He should have taken the picture with the op and the filled cart, explain why he can't do that for everyone and every volunteer group but appreciates the spirit and good intentions of the donation.

Idle curiosity, but what kind of incidents would impel you to speak to store management "many, many" times? I've been shopping at Publix for years and have never once needed a manager.

having worked in retail a lot during my various times of life I probably emphasize with the manager. it's one of the busiest times of the year for the store....he's probably got a million things to do, it's clearly marked there's a limit on the number that can be bought, and then the thought of having to stop everything to re-price all those turkeys probably hit a nerve....of course, the customer should always be treated with respect and you should respond politely at all times....but in practice, it can be hard sometimes. as someone said, contacting them beforehand could have prevented it and the store may have considered giving the discount price.

You would have to go to the original post to understand what's being said. The cashier obviously did ring up the merchandise correctly, however the customer wanted more than the allowed number of turkeys at the special price. Simple. And if you shop at Publix often, you will find that the managers are always available when you have questions about certain items or about their product mix in general. We have found them to be accommodating and gracious in their service to us. That's all. Please don't read more into this than necessary.

Solution would be buy two at a time. Could either go and buy two and buy and take to car or cashier could have rung up two at time. It was for charity, but maybe not his favorite food kitchen.

Many organizations take donations for holiday meals, Christmas gifts for the needy, etc. That being said, claiming to have a sudden spiritual enlightening at the local grocery seems to me to be disingenuous. And the fact that the OP named the store and identified the asst. manager by name is troubling to me. I have seen threads closed on ToTv for posters being too personal to members who for most part unknown to viewers and who are using fictitious monikers. I believe this website was remiss in not closing this thread immediately. Personal attacks on real people, with real jobs, with real families to feed from anonymous people I find quite repulsive. BUT (yep) she would have been better off to have notified the Publix manager to help her before she got to the checkout. Publix stores are very good at helping the needy and supporting anyone who is. Their food drives are tremendous! If you donate money, they can buy double, triple and sometimes more food with that money.

I am sorry she had a bad experience.....
