He sounds just about like B. Hussein Obama's ex-preacher man.* Pretty much the same message, dontcha think?* More America slamming - as if our government is God almighty and is capable of controlling everything, all the way down to the last forclosure.* That is paranoid, delusional and downright unhelpful to the American cause and spirit.

Wow...what part was paranoid and delusional? Maybe if we don't think about it, it will go away. It's not America slamming. Questioning wrongs is what makes America great. Do you really think this administration had nothing to do with any of the things this man suggested? I ask this honestly and with curiousity, not in a demeaning way. I've read enough of your posts to respect you and am really interested in why you reacted as you did to this video.

As a writer and wordsmith, it always interests me to look at the connotations and denotations of words and names. Whenever I see a focus on Barak Obama's middle name Hussein, I wonder what feelings a name like Omar Bradley elicits? Do we remember Five-Star-General Omar Bradley, known as "the soldier's general," and his outstanding service to our country during World War II?

This is not a comment on the video nor a political statement in response to it.

I thought the video as a production was pretty good! It stated a position and presented it in a calm and non-threatening manner. That's darned good salesmanship!

My business has me always looking at things from at least three sides (one extreme, the other, and somewhere in the middle). Knowing a person's viewpoint is the first step toward understanding, education and change (if appropriate).

Ignoring the viewpoint won't make it go away.

Thank you Sidney, great comment. I've thought that as well, but couldn't have articulated it as well as you did. And thank you also Samhass, Susanand Tom, it is a thought provoking video.

And yet one more thread that belongs in political. If all the threads that were political were posted correctly, this forum would be over 50% politics. Again it is still a political rag with some valuable information sprinkled in. Keep your politics in the political forum so the rest of us are not subjected to your biases.

Wow...what part was paranoid and delusional?*
The video is paranoid in that the actions of our government are portrayed as synonymous with "terrorism". It is delusional in portraying that our government has the power to prevent anything bad happening to us. It presumes purposeful recession, purposeful real estate speculation, purposeful foreclosures, and a myriad of other "sins", all at the hands of the federal government.* In fact, our individual habits, obsessions, and appetites have more influence on our welfare than does our government.*

The video portrays virtually the same tone and message that our adversaries in the middle east expressed following 9/11:* Anything bad that happens to us is the fault of our government.* And that is just not true.* And the Hussein part...he was indeed a Muslim, albeit a "nominal" one as documented in a variety of sources.* And given the recent history of that religion, it certainly matters to me.

Yes, the video was thought provoking - my thoughts were provoked, and I expressed them...just not the way some of you agree with.* Oh well. :dontknow:

I don't have any problem with this thread being moved to the political heading.*

gf -- CNN very much debunked the "Muslim" myth regarding Obama. Whether you like him or not, he deserves the basic respect of being called by the name he prefers. He does not and has not gone by his full name. He goes by Barack H. Obama. What is so hard about giving any human the basic consideration of calling them what they wish so long as that name is not obscene or hurtful to another?

I didn't take that the government was the terrorist from the video but rather what if all of this was caused by individuals or groups determined to harm the US. Hitting our economy would certainly be far more effective than any other act of terrorism.

gf -- CNN very much debunked the "Muslim" myth regarding Obama. *The media (CNN) is wrong on this one.* I do not take CNN as ultimate authority on matters Islamic.* There are more reliable sources that aren't as motivated by "political correctness".

Whether you like him or not, he deserves the basic respect of being called by the name he prefers.* He does not and has not gone by his full name.* He goes by Barack H. Obama.* What is so hard about giving any human the basic consideration of calling them what they wish so long as that name is not obscene or hurtful to another? * Gosh, I've never met the man and I have never heard what he prefers to be called.* If he is so offended by his own name, he is free to change it.* People do that all the time.* The fact remains that is his name.* And his name reflects his undeniable heritage of Islamic parents and Islamic schooling.

I didn't take that the government was the terrorist from the video but rather what if all of this was caused by individuals or groups determined to harm the US.* Hitting our economy would certainly be far more effective than any other act of terrorism.
* The video strongly suggests our government caused these problems by either incompetence or evil motives which he claims has a similar result as terrorism.* My point is there are things our population does to itself that are often beyond the capacity of government to instantaneously respond to and correct.* Instead he chooses to slander our government.* We need to look at our own greed and foolishness which our government is forced to react to.

Do we remember Five-Star-General Omar Bradley, known as "the soldier's general," and his outstanding service to our country during World War II? That is an interesting comment.* If the name "Omar" was as popular a name for terrorists and others wanting to do us in during WWII as "Hussein" and "Mohammad" are today, there would have been concern with "Omar" back then.* But there was no such connection and thus no such concern.* Your example does not reflect the visceral baggage that a name brings to itself in the context of what is going on in a particular time period.* Now if the General's name was John "Hitler" Smith, you might have a point.

Okay, talk about "much ado about nothing". Sam asked me to post this for her. Having never been to the "Political Forum" a forum I would never take part in...(why would I want to change your opinion?? You sure aren't going to change mine, so why bother? Just my humble opinion.) I posted it here, I forum I normally frequent. Wow, shoot me before dawn.

All this excitement over some guy sitting in a chair, satirizing the condition of this country as he sees it. It is satire, people. You know like Saturday night live, like late night talk show hosts...isn't political supposed to be serious? Maybe I am just naive. If you listen carefully he rips on just about every institution in this country from insurance companies to big business, education to healthcare and yes, even the government.

If you look up James Pence, the commentator, which I did, by his own admission, this was meant as a satirical joke, not a political statement.

calm down everyone....it's satire...

:agree: Bright! Handi's still looking under his bed for Al Qaeda! Muncle reminds me of an C.P.A. my hubby once had. This guy would correct the grammar on faxes sent to him when he sent back his answer. One day my husband just faxed four words back to him, "Blank U, U're Fired" (you can fill in the blank.) :joke: It amuses me how the gist of the video is ignored, to the more pressing issue of "Bad Grammar". And gfmucci, you are soooo rev'd up I don't know where to begin. Just want to say FYI Hussein is as common as name as Smith.
Actually lived next door to a Mohammad Hussein and his wife Jabeen and their two adorable little girls. We even exchanged Christmas presents. You couldn't find nicer people to be your neighbors. So, should all people named Smith then pay for or be ridiculed, or ostracised for something all the murderers and convicts named Smith did? I bet ya if we searched hard enough through records, we can find someone with our same last name, that has committed a horrible crime somewhere. That's just utterly ridiculous and so off point. Again, :#1: great post Sam.

Good lord, have all you people lost your collective minds. Someone posts a political "satire" that gets expected results. Some scream foul and fire back in kind. Others salivate that "OMG! George W. Bush is a terrorist!" while compatriots complain the the responses were below the belt. And somebody brings up Omar Bradley, for God's sake! It has gotten too damned predictable and boring. So I committed the ultimate sin. I figured very possibly the most insignificant issue available, other than most of your arguments, was the grammar. So I brought it up. Susan saw the facetiousness and hopefully the humor of it. Look at her 10:36 post. If others missed it, too bad. :duck:

Regardless, you're all taking your opinions too damned seriously and not only refusing to accept anyone else's but seemingly you're denying them the right to even have them. Believe it or not, you do not know everything in the world. Your views are not sacrosanct. We can all learn something from others, whether we agree with them or not. In fact, generally we learn the most from those with whom we disagree. But first we have to listen.

If any of my language offended anyone, eh sorry. However, please do not clean it up. If you must, just delete the thing. Tirade over.

I am so sleepy and I cannot stop watching this. When are you all going to kiss and make up? I can't stay awake much longer.

I always duck this stuff. I did not even know it was happening. I was blissfully writing about cabbage. I really do hope though that someone will tell me if I used the wrong kind of onion.

Goodnight.

gfmucci, if you think I'm going to look up and log the crimes committed, around the world, by people named "Smith" in the last month, you've really gone over the edge. Much better things to do with my time, like campaigning for Obama.

gfmucci, if you think I'm going to look up and log the crimes committed, around the world, by people named "Smith" in the last month, you've really gone over the edge. * Somebody's got to go over the edge now and then.* Might as well be me.* Oh, and there is no comparable list with "Smith". I've checked.

*Much better things to do with my time, like campaigning for Obama. *

That was predictable.* You and my daughter ought to get together. :yikes:

Yeah, that's what other Democrats have told me...that I raised her to think for herself. Another sign of offspring throwing off the influence and wisdom of their elders.
