I have had them almost a year and my lawn is terrible. Can't wait to drop them. I am going to see if I can get a refund for my last couple months.

Most of the previous posters are in newer areas below 466A. Your lawn may look terrible in the early years after planting. Ours did for the first two years+ after it was installed by the builder. In desperation we attended the "Twice on Tuesday" seminars and found out the proper fertilizer to use. Eventually, the lawn filled in and became healthy turf. Now, for almost the past two years, it has been cared for by Stellar, now Service Smart. It's still healthy to this point so I can't say Stellar- Service Smart, have ruined it. Maybe your lawn is just too new.

The soil below 466A may be like ours above 466A, "dead soil", and will require time , care and feeding.

Also not sold on renewing when my contract is up. They were great as Stellar... not so much as Service Smart.

Carla had the same problem here 8 years ago. The reason was lousy backfill had to work with Massey to get the proper nutrients etc into the soil

We have been very dissatisfied with Service Smart. Both with our lawn and the pest control. Nearly every other month I've had to call them to treat "sugar" ants in our home - several places. Finally, I went and bought ant traps - that seems to be taking care of them better!

Had Stellar now Service Smart. So far all is as it was. Only signed up for 6 months so we will see how it goes.

2 things I've learned in my first year living in the Villages....NEVER pre pay for lawn service, no matter how much of a discount they offer you and drop Service Smart as fast as humanly possible! I have a contract that runs thru April and I'm not waiting to let it run out. They WILL NOT refund any monies if you cancel, so I'm just chalking it up to a lesson learned.

We are also former Stellar customers now with Service Smart. WE have not had any issue with them and so far they have been responsive to our calls and questions, including some things that were carry-overs from Stellar. When it's time for us to renew, we'll see if they have continued to do keep up or not. Hard to determine how their lawn care is in a season when most grasses are dormant.

According to this past week's newspaper ads, hang on to your wallets, Smart Service prices are huge compared to what Stellar Customers were used to paying.

For instance, Trimming Shrubs and Weeding Beds was $495 per year. Under Smart Service, the services are split. Trimming Shrubs alone is now $495 and Weeding Beds is $245 extra. In all fairness, they appear to be weeding more often.

Pricing for Pest Program, Lawn Program and Scrub/Palm Programs are $150 higher as well. Then you have to worry about them showing up. Seeing is believing. Count me out!

Service Smart is anticipating a massive amount of customers quitting or at least not renewing their service. So they are raising the price per service to compensate.. Example: 1000 customers at $100 a year or 500 customers at $200 a year. I am still hoping for another lawn care company to step up to the plate and provide what we paid for..

We've had Service Smart for 6 years without a problem. They've been out the next day whenever I've called with a pest issue. Prices for us are the same as when we started with them 6 1/2 years ago. That said, it appears that other folks have had problems. Several in our neighorhood use them and have for some time.

Sent us a bill for termite inspection for $99. Told them that was included in our yearly plan. They disagree and said we can either pay the $99 or they will not treat our property. The young lady was very rude and condescending. Everyone in our neighborhood (Fernandina) are not renewing. Completely disgusted with how our lawns look compared to those using other companies. This is the last straw as they know if you do not pay you will not have met the requirements for termite renewal

Terrible company, they provide terrible scheduled service. I will drop them like a hot potato when my year is up. DO NOT pay any company in advance as I did, you are their hostage. They started out good, too big now to provide a good product.

Used them for 2 years then dropped them at renewal time.

One of their crews showed up to cut the lawn 2 weeks later. The right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing.

Glad to be rid of them.

One of the biggest mistakes I have made was hiring that company. They only show up after I call. When cutting the grass they scalp areas and don't cut others. My bushes and palm trees look the worst they ever have. Never again!

Any suggestions

Looking for opinions on the quality of service provided by Service Smart.

We want a Full Service Company which includes pest control inside and out,
termites, mowing, edging, weeding, trimming the shrubs and Palm trees, and fertilizing everything.
There aren't a lot of full-service companies around. Service Smart is the best we've found.

It's important to us to have one-stop shopping and a company that has an office and staff to answer the phone.
During the past eight years we've had a variety of lawn cutters.
Many of them have a cell phone and calls aren't returned.
They would be fine for a few months, and then problems start.
Some have disappeared without warning, moving on to more lucrative pursuits.
We've used some of the "big-name" pest control companies but SS has done a better job for us.

Is SS perfect? Of course not. However SS has been responsive to any concerns we've had.
And I think their employees are great, very polite, pleasant and professional.

According to this past week's newspaper ads, hang on to your wallets, Smart Service prices are huge compared to what Stellar Customers were used to paying.

We find SS's renewal prices to be similar to Stellar's prices. We plan to renew.

Same experience with them. Gave them specific instructions on how to trim trees and bushes (because I'm very fussy) and he took so many notes, but he was not the one that did the trimming. The trimmer came a few days later and completely scalped everything, taking away all the privacy I had specifically planted. Fired them immediately and got my yearly contract money back. Its amazing how irresponsible companies can be.

Hired Dean's service and have been extremely happy with them. Trimmers come to discuss plans with me before doing the work. Have not had a problem. They also do pest control for me.

I believe all of the lawn maintenance companies are about the same. My neighbor has gone through at least 5 and is still not happy. I have had Stellar/Service Smart for two years since we bought in TV. They are not perfect but they do respond promptly and do what I ask them to do. No lawn maintenance company will do it as well as you can. They need to move fast to be profitable. I pull a few weeds and sometimes treat problem areas to help out. My lawn looks great. Several of my neighbors have the same company and their lawns look terrible. I do notice that they over water constantly. Before you give up on a Service Smart, try getting one of their supervisors to come and take a look at your lawn and check the sprinkler system settings. Grass will grow if it is fed and watered correctly.

Showed up at my house today after being away about a month and it looked like my yard had not been mowed or otherwise serviced for a month. Got on the phone with Service Smart and got them to send a mower crew out. Tomorrow I will meet with SS supervisor must to let him know how unhappy I am. They were fine as Stellar; however, not so fine as SS. I am done with them.

We also had Steller / Smart Service once Smart Service took over everything went downhill fast. They would not return calls or show up, I beieve Smart Service had no intention of honoring Steller customer agreements.
We dropped them and went with Falcon Lawn and pest and our yard looks great !!

I just fired ServiceSmart after 6 weeks of using them. Horrible service. They have not lived up to any promise they made. I have to call to get anything resolved. I have never seen so many weeds. My front lawn is mostly crabgrass. I asked for a refund and they said no. I am giving them until next Friday to refund on my card (signed up for 1 year, the works) and if they do not, I will reverse the charge and file for fraud. And that is just for starters. I have already talked 3 families out of using them. Cash up front? Never again. I will now only pay monthly and only after the service is performed. And all I want is a decent looking yard. No excuses.

I agree that lawn maintenance companies are about the same.
We've owned since 2007. We've changed providers many times in the past eight years.
Sometimes it takes a while to realize that lawn companies need to move fast to be profitable,
so expecting perfection isn't reasonable.
If you are looking for a Full-Service Company, there aren't a lot of options.
We plan to renew with Service Smart.

I think the problems with these companys is that they grow very quickly and than they have trouble finding people to do this work. I have a small company and the crew told me they have 400 plus customers. Can't imagine how many these larger company's have.

We have been away from our house for a month now. Our neighbors emailed photos yesterday of our lawn with our grass and weeds up to their knees! I called Service Smart and said I wanted a supervisor to come out to see my terrible looking yard. Within 10 minutes (no kidding) our neighbors emailed back and said they were now mowing our yard. Point being, the supervisors receive so many complaints that they don't even bother getting involved anymore.

Btw, you wouldn't believe all the weeds that started sprouting up all over our yard right before we left! Neighbor said it is much worse now. I started the yard/weed treatment with Service Smart the first of this year. I seriously believe they fertilzed my existing weeds instead of killing them off as promised. Our yard looked much better BEFORE these treatments!

But since it bugs you, I'll duct tape my fingers where Service Smart is concerned. :lipsrsealed:
