View Full Version : Student loan bailout! WHY?

There is much in Washington and from Clinton about "...doing something about the student loan problem..."
Talk of programs costing billions of tax dollars to give those who took the loans relief. They say they cannot buy and do the things they want because of the huge debt they have.
So what do those of us who had student loans and did over 10 years pay then back have to say? Make them pay just like the rest of us did.
This proposed program is nothing more than another tactic to create another freebie program and buy another voting block.
I guess the mentality and the track record of the current politicians it is inevitable there will be some kind of loan reduction, payment reduction or even the out and out forgiveness of the entire loan amount. If that should be the case should those of us who DID THE RIGHT THING by paying back our debt, be demanding some sort of refund? After all there are things we could have done or bought when we were making payments and we denied ourselves and our families during that time.
Write your representatives (:1rotfl:) in Washington and tell them to vote against ANY bailout of student loans. Demand the be paid back just like the rest of us did. And add a however......if they cannot defeat the give away then for them to be sure to have the bill include some form of refund to those of us who honored our commitment and paid our debts.

It's just a way for Clinton to try to buy some young voters.

In case you haven't look, and apparently you haven't, the young are voting Democrats in large numbers anyway. They don't need to get freebees. All the Democrats have to point to Republicans, and their policies. Then, it is game over.
I think these student loans are at fixed rates over the current available loan rates. Just change the interest rate. Everything was much more affordable in our days. Using us as examples, is nota fair comparison. But why be fair? That would be so un-Republican like.

So by Republican policies you mean personal responsibility, states rights, and smaller fed government? These are the opposite of what democrats stand for. "Fair" is a totally bogus concept generally used by people who aren't interested in facts but want to appeal to a baseless emotional argument. The foundation of the democratic party. Much of the problems with student loans is due to gov meddling that propelled tuition increases far above the rate of inflation. Another example of the fed government being complicit in another bubble.

Your opening shot is undeserving of anymore than a BS assignation.
Now on to the rest of the story?
What you are obviously missing/ignoring is whether today or yester year an agreement to pay was acknowledged rand agreed to along with rates, terms, payments, etc.
Whether today or yester year the money was obtained per the agreement signed. So I do not care whether they are young or old or white or black and I especially don't care what their political leaning is as NONE of that was part and parcel to obtaining the loan.
It is, in case you did not get it, about responsibility and honoring the commitment. Concepts of honesty and intent. All of which somehow or other under the current political climate have become either optional or selectively not enforced.
We all knew about the fixed low interest rates. As well as the term (usually 10 years) when we signed up and had our hand out.
And, I insist, like many of us did, suck it up, quit the bitching, and complaining and pay the bill.
Has nothing to do with politics or race or religion and never has. Until now when the corrupt politicians would use as an excuse to buy votes.......encouraging those who would now get in line to weasel out of their agreement. Hence the dismissing of honor and commitment (politics).
No thanks. I prefer the American attitude i was and grew up with.........which never ever included dishonest free loading.

This is the one response that came the closest of making any sense.
By personal responsibility do you mean making abortion illegal even in case of rape, and death of the mother?
States rights abortion, voter IDS laws, and Gerrymandering to mention a few, those rights?
Smaller federal government - cutting everything except the military, social security, and Medicare.
Baseless emotional arguments? The old white party excels in one thing we got ours to hell with you. Is anyone going to sit here and try to defend that things haven't changed in the last forty years? What has the Republican party done to try to get the youth vote?
In the first debate, or on tv interviews, or in political ads have any of the candidates even try to talk about policies that affect the youth of today? Get a grip. Trump, Carson, and Cruz are all feeding off the anger out there for the federal government. They are making a lot of noise, and providing no policy details. They are nothing , but hot air.

Dear Guest: In case you have looked a primary Democratic candidate is a socialist and the top candidate is pulling so hard left to stay ahead. and that the top candidate will likely get knocked of her perch because of so many problems with trustworthiness.
Democrats =socialist and so your comments are not a surprise nor is your of mischaracterization and definition of what a Republican is and does.
Did you know that 1/3 of the students getting loans didn't think they had to pay them back? Has federal government's largess become that common that people can't tell the difference between a loan and a hand out?
did you know that because of the federal governments generous attitude to student loans that it creates an opportunity for universities and colleges to raise their tuition and for no apparent business purpose other than $$$availability?
Did you know the only difference between two women who have conceived at exactly the same time, one becoming a mother is want?
Did you know the rape/incest issue is a strawman argument to deflect the bigger issue abortion on demand up to and include birth (think De Gosnell) and how many others like him (perhaps Planned Parenthood)?
Did you know that this Democratic president has left us in great peril with his cuts in defense spending and feckless foreign policy?
Did you know there are as many rich Democrats as Republicans and" I got mine you ain't getting yours" is a strawman argument even my Democratic father repeated on a continuum but it is pure bupkus?
Democrats like entitlements they like income redistribution. Thy like giving away other people's money. that what the earned income credit is about. Its what's behind the silly CEO to clerk ratio pay scheme? Its what Obamacare is about.
Robin Hood may have been a hero to common folk but the truth is he was a crook, a robber who felt an entitlement and a justification to other people's money and that is something Hollywood surrogates promote and again is pure bupkus.
How about I'll take care of my responsibilities and you take care of your responsibilities and along the way if we do run across some who truly can fend for themselves well then we will give them a hand up?
More often than not when progressives choose they choose wrongly

"How about I'll take care of my responsibilities and you take care of your responsibilities and along the way if we do run across some who truly can fend for themselves well then we will give them a hand up?"
If that's what you believe:
Then support programs to allow women to make their own choices, unencumbered by prohibitive legislation.
Don't judge or stand in the way of two people in love to marry if they choose.
Allow people to have their own beliefs, what ever the faith in a god or no god and not allow one faith to dictate the laws for all.
And as far as college loan paybacks....there were jobs when we left college and jobs where you could work for 25+ years with decent pay that increased over the years. Now the 26 plus year olds work multiple low paying jobs. When they do make payments, it is often the minimum on a loan with 6% interest.

So are you saying it is OK to take out a loan then when it is time to pay it back just decide to not do so. So what if they have to work multiple jobs to get what they want. I think some here who make excuses for those who are doing wrong forget that what is offered as a problem like multiple low paying jobs to make life happen IS HOW MANY OF US MADE IT TO WHERE WE ARE!!!!!
Anybody that wants a job or jobs that want to earn money can do so.
The upcoming generation can witness:
>entering a country illegally results in no action by law or government.
>stop paying for your house and the government will figure out how to help you not lose it.
>take out a multiple thousand dollar loan for education and then don't pay it back....again the government will help you not pay....not penalty....no law enforcement, no problem.
>start riots in the streets and burn down town areas and loot and steal and the government will call them the victims and nothing is down....quite the contrary it is encouraged by the president, jackson and sharpton cronies.
>don't liksomething that has been a part of the culture for centuries....just raise your hand, promise to vote democatic and the politicians will whor-ize anything as long as you vote for them.
>volunteer two years of your life to go into the military to protect the freedoms they have (:a20:).
And many amny more.....what do we think the upcoming generations will view as right or wrong? Legal or illegal?
Just wait until the working America and make up becomes the minority and the illegals and their offsprings become the majority. Then the USA will further degenerate into the same status as the country they left.

Democrats like entitlements they like income redistribution. They like giving away other people's money. that what the earned income credit is about. Its what's behind the silly CEO to clerk ratio pay scheme? Its what Obamacare is about.
Earned Income Credit - Created 1975 (Ford) - modified 1986 (Reagan) eliminated some other deductions, and rolled them into the EIC, modified (Bush senior) reduced the credit, which increase taxes a no no, 2001 ("W") increased EIC.
Now to the socialist, 2009 Amer. Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and 2010 Tax Relief, and Unemployment Redistribution Act both helped primarily large families recover form the great recession. What socialist program caused the great recession? Giving mortgages to people that couldn't affords them, wasn't a Democrat program. The abuse of the mortgage industry, large banks, and Wall Street landed in "W's" lap. His solution bailing out the too big to fail banks, Wall Street, and AIG isn't a handout to solve a problem. Obama bails out GM, and Romney tries to crucify for it. The problem with Republicans is they never accept responsibility for anything.
Just curious what do you call it when a Republican president gives away other peoples money? Sometimes like "W" gives a little to middle, and lower class, so he can give much more to the upper class.
The Affordable Care Act is a gives away people's money. When the uninsured used the emergency ward as their primary care physician, that wasn't given people's money thru higher health care rates. 22 million people now have health care insurance now than before. The health insurance carriers are the problem. Allowing healthcare providers to cross state lines isn't the answer. Single payer is. It will never happen.
This president's reckless foreign policy. Who invaded Iraq that spun the middle east out of control?
As far as being wrong in Washington, that is something that is truly bipartisan. However, Republicans excel in the blame game. I am a middle of the road independent. Given how far the Republicans have moved to right, we are now called socialists. We are not the problem Republicans are. When your path to the majority is obstruction, we are on a road to nowhere. I am voting for Kasich in the primary. Hopefully, he can steer Republicans back on the track.
What policies do you thing the Republicans have to take to get the youth vote? The Democrats aren't buying their vote as this thread indicted. Republicans are turning them away.

Women their own choices? Where haven't they? Most moral folks believe that it is a sin to kill babies. Where are the babies' rights? Only 1% of abortions are due to medical, incest or rape. The rest are due to inconvenience. Abortion is legal now, so you are the one that needs to get past that crap.
Two people getting married? Most folks, even if they don't condone gay marriage, will tolerate civil unions. Most Americans believe that marriage is a religious practice and the Bible does not allow for it. It's legal now, so you need to get past that too.
As far as beliefs are concerned, the majority of America believe in a Deity. It is the liberals/atheists that are adamantly against religious freedom. No one cares if you are an atheist. We feel sorry for you, but it's your right. Just don't force YOUR lack of faith on us.
I am not crying for those that graduate college and have to start a low paying job(s). I did it and supported a family also. It is not my fault that today's youth are so weak. The only reason they take low paying jobs and not progress to better paying employment is their lack of motivation. People retire or move on to other jobs every day. Where do you think they get replacements?
Don't liberals EVER get tired of crying and whining? :cryin2:

Do Republicans ever get tired of criticizing, condemning, and complaining? Take a good look at the posts here starting with your own, and you will see who is doing the most crying, and whining.
What was this thread about? Democrats buying the youth vote. Sounds like crying to me! What programs do Republicans offer that could get them the youth vote?
Several southern states are making it very hard to get an abortion like driving 400 to 500 miles. The right to life people haven't gotten over it. They never will.

The thread was posted to bemoan the buying of the youth vote. It was about the student loans and whether they should be forgiven/or something else.
The buying the vote is a result or side effect of the bailing out of those who are moaning and whinning about not being able to survive with the debt THEY SIGNED UP FOR!!!!!
If you want to discuss the buying of the youth vote then start yur own thread on it.
By the way on the subject of this thread, do you support the forgiving of student loans? you think it is appropriate to use federal funds to bail out these people who are defaulting on the student loans?

Oh, I see. The "give me" game. What programs do the Republicans offer that could get the STUDENT vote? Good question. Are students that shallow that it has to be all about them? I thought they were the generation that is supposed to lead our country eventually. Do they want to live in poverty once the country goes bankrupt? What do conservatives offer? How about prosperity, freedom and security? Does that work? Ooops, sorry that doesn't work well on video games, huh? Here's what it looks like. If you can get into college; and the bar is pretty low today, then you feel that these folks deserve FREE college while their fellow youth that are working blue collar jobs and scraping by while you are partying, get nothing but grief from the privileged slackers.
How about, you pay your own way like the rest of us, or ask your parents for the money? That worked for most of us that didn't get gov help. My daughters did get some gov loans for college, and it took years to pay it back. They didn't ask the gov to forgive their debt and they didn't renege on their obligation either. If you want gov help for college then join the military. Earn it.
To answer your question regarding what conservatives have to offer the youth. We offer a future, based on strength, not weakness and dependency. If you are looking for an easy way, then move to Europe, where the middle class has an American low class lifestyle. You think socialism is ideal? Try paying 55% of your income out to the gov to pay for all those so-called benefits. And then have fun waiting in line for those same benefits.
Conservatives won't buy your vote. If you want to freeload, then vote Democrat and elect a socialist. But, remember what Thatcher said "“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”

I am not sure why you are questioning age?
The "student" loans and subject of the OP has to do with long term COLLEGE loans made or guaranteed by the federalegovernment.
The thread focus is about bailing out the debtors now that they are out of college and are whinning about the debt burden. A SIDE EFFECT of the bail out has become politicized and has become bait for vote getting!
So how do you feel about bailing out capable folks who do not WANT to repay their loans?
This is the last time I explain the OP intent to those who do not read the entire thread and or do not know what they are talking about or the usual change the subject dodge and weave!

Dodge and weave! It is impossible to compete on the "dodge and weave" playing field here, because that is what most Republicans here excel at.
Why am I questioning age? In a normal flow, a student would graduate college at age 22. I was accused of changing the subject from student to youth. Aren't all students youths? It was just what you have to expect here, a petty shot.
What is done on a constant basis here is make the exception the rule. A small group of students don't want to pay back their student loans, so all students don't want to pay back their loans. All they have to do is band together, and the Democrats will come to their aid to buy their vote.
A small group of illegal Hispanics are no damn good, so all Hispanics are no damn good. So, it is the goal of Republicans to make sure Hispanics don't vote. This, of course, is done for the good of the country.
The one thing that is done here is comparing the times we grew up to the current times. Times have changed a lot, and it is a lot hard for youth/students now. By calling them deadbeats, just shows how closed minded some people here are.
I could go on and on, but that would be changing the subject. However, I now have to change the subject.
Do they want to live in poverty once the country goes bankrupt? What do conservatives offer? How about prosperity, freedom and security? Always a flair for the dramatic. The nation under our last Republican president almost went bankrupt. Prosperity! The middle class has been falling behind the rate inflation, since Reagan. The programs that were complete failures they want to bring back. security! That Iraq war certainly help our security, and security around the world. It also did wonders for our debt.

What has changed in our society...where we have a good number
of people that don't seem to be able to take personal responsibility
for their own decisions and actions!

The people that take personal responsibility for their decisions don't make the news. They're not the ones being interviewed on cable TV.

People don't seem to be taking personal responsibility of their own actions. They are following the lead of the people that run the country. Everything and everybody in government are for sale. Since the parties are so far apart on everything, it is very easy to blame the other party for all the sins in the world. If you try to do something to help someone, you are buying their vote.

Yes there are people that truly need help,
but If you are doing things for someone that they should
and can do for themselves, you are doing them a terrible diservice,
and are really not helping!

Says the party that changes the subject when they have no answer. You and Debbie Whatshername should get together and compare notes.

I bet you couldn't wait to post such insight. The thought process that went into this post leaves the rest of us in total awe. How can anyone compete on such a high level with you? To think you did this at 6:46 in the morning. On second thought, maybe you should wake up before you post.

Don't worry, I am sure that your loan bailout will arrive at any time. I am sure that Acorn doesn't pay their Trolls anywhere near enough to pay off their student debt. Oh, did I move us back toward the subject? Sorry about that.
Ever wonder how a person can claim to be an Independent and then vote for the party of handouts and dependency? Kind of an oxymoron; independently dependent on the gov for sustenance.
