A younger man hitting a grandfather has people up in arms ... But an older woman slugging another woman is a chance to crack jokes? Both of these people were arrested and charged with a crime. How is any act of violence okay? I honestly don't get it. As Ricky would say, "Please essplain, Lucy."

One involved two women with little class and no issues.
The other involved the possible inappropriate conversation with young girls and the stealing of a cell phone by a felon.

We seem to know a little more detail about the swimming pool incident and not as much about the line dancing encounter. However, in neither case do we know the whole story. It really bothers me when the media around here, including the-one-that-shall-not-be-named and the Daily Planned It break stories that don't have the facts right and then fail to follow up. Worse, we all post our opinions and snide remarks based on assumptions and bad information. We were much better off as a society when the news media were valued for accuracy rather than how fast they reported. I hope the facts all come to light when these two incidents go to court -- if they do. I believe the line dancers case will go to court. From what people close to the matter have relayed, this appears to have been a set up by the so-called victim for gain.

How could she gain? I am so dumb I can't think how a person could gain setting up a situation where she got bopped. Line dancing is not a serious occupation. It's supposed to be lighthearted fun. If the folks involved would have exited stage right and left the area OR called the cops no bopping would have happened..
I'd have to guess that the taunting person must have had a snootful. I have never had a yen to say mean stuff to a line dancer... You cannot have a decent conversation with a drunk so you should just back off, get in your car and dance at another square if you feel inclined to dance.

I plan to be confused about that after I am done being confused about people wanting to kill the coyote but spare the gator.

I think less and less of our on-line news source. Is interviewing a friend of the line dancer who was quoted saying she actually didn't see what happened but was told by friends of the slugger what occured, is that good journalism? I could care less what happened, the authorities and courts will figure it out. If someone is going to develop a website, tout their news experience, and begin reporting the news in the Villages, I think the least they can do is get a fact or two before reporting the event.

Where did you hear anything from people who were close to the situation ?

Seems sort of ridiculous for someone to suggest that linedancing activities should have an officer accompany the group to keep the peace and wayward children away from the action.
It's a shame people cannot be civil, at any age.

Law suit for damages is how. I've been told the so-called victim baited the teacher and hit first. Then her husband video taped what came next. There were many witnesses. The truth will out -- just not in the media, probably.

I highly doubt much of a lawsuit would come out of that situation.

Bonny, probably no lawsuit but 5 minutes of fame on some talk show. I think people are doing lots of stupid stuff just so they can post on you tube and facebook for the chance to be interviewed on these talk shows.

Someone always comes out "psychologically damaged" from these incidents, and their are attorneys like Morgan and Morgan that love this stuff.
This is better addressed through the criminal courts.

There are 2 editorials in the "on line newspaper" that tell the story by 2 people that where there.

No one whether it be a man or woman, has the right to put their hands on another person.
As Judge Judy says, "it's always better to walk away, from a confrontation".

The second letter to the editor about this is much more understandable and gives a clearer explanation of what happened.
I still think what went wrong is that the group just didn't sit it out until the family who was being difficult left. Or just moved to another square or to another part of that square. There are some issues that can't be solved with discussion, especially when alcohol is involved.
The huge error was the punch. No matter how much someone angers us, how justified we feel, we cannot lay our hands on them.

Assuming the information in the letters is correct, it appears that the line dancing instructor (Jan) was touched first and then she responding with a punch. It seems both are actually guilty of assault. Why wasn't the woman who touched first given a summons?

This is what it's all about.
First she put her right hand in,
Then she put her right hand out,
Then she put her right hand in,
And then she shook it all about.
I think it happens all the time.

Sometimes people with kids don't really accept their child needs to be controlled and this mother was upset her child was not allowed to mingle with the dancers. Maybe if momma had gotten up and danced with precious this would not have happened.

Physical or verbal violence is never acceptable in my book. From reading the articles it sounds like they were trying to keep the child safe by having her removed from the dance area. Wouldn't it have been much better to have stopped the serious dancing for a few minutes and included the kid or kids? Geeze....kids love the dancing and want to join.
When did all this violence and anger become the norm? I will always walk away from a confrontation. Some may say I should stand up for myself, but is it really worth the risk?

Because it's always the one who strikes back who gets caught and ends up bearing the brunt of it. That's how bullies get away with what they do.

I see your point, but I doubt a group of adults are going to stop line dancing because little ones want to dance. And who knows how long that child wanted to dance. That's what parents are for. I personally would have been afraid that my child would get hurt and would move her/him away from the big grownups. Some of those dances you are turning fast multiple times. So easy not to see a little one. I would feel bad if the child got hurt and really bad if I fell & maybe broke a hip.

I agree. And I also wonder if once confronted with their lack of parenting skills, (attending to the little girl's safety), they became defensive and stubborn.

not confusing....a gator is a native species and coyotes are not. Gators, if left alone, are relatively harmless and coyotes are not.

What do these two unfortunate acts of violence have in common? That's right. CHILDREN! Children's presence in TV has gotten completely out of control. And don't tell me they don't pee in the pools. Do we old people go and hang out at our grand children's playground all summer? No! And anyway, we all know they would rather be at Disney World, not in TV. But grandpa is too CHEAP to put them up in a hotel on Disney property. So grandpa foists them on us old folks who moved here to hang with our generation, not everyone's kids and grand kids. So what happens? Violence, chaos, confusion. What did you expect? Remember, these two instances of violence factor into the "best places to retire to" crime statistics that ultimately affects our rating.

Don't you have grand children come to visit you ? The little ones were doing what little ones do. It's the adults that were at fault !

I'm sure there are grown adults that pee in the pools as well. And perhaps on a more regular basis...
Ultimately, it comes down to the willful actions of adults.
