View Full Version : Black lives DO matter.....

First thing I would like to do here is be respectful, but I read this piece in the Chicago Tribune, written by a black woman.
It struck a chord because it is something that I just do not understand, and she speaks directly to the issue I do not understand. While she speaks of Chicago, it is of national import.
We place so much attention, both in the media and in groups protests, and it appears that now it is beginning to appear as if it will be made a political issue as well, on the police shooting of black men.
It is absolutely unforgivable for a white police officer to even shoot, let alone kill, an unarmed black man, unless he/she fears for his/her life. There are systems in place to handle that kind of thing, and while no system is perfect, it does appear to work. Ferguson, if you recall, the police officer was justified yet a town was burnt down.
Republicans as well as Democrats feel strongly about the shooting of unarmed people, both black and white, by a police officer and speak out about that.
What seems to only be mentioned as an after thought is blacks killing blacks day after day after day...This is from that article in the Chicago Tribune, by a black woman...she was speaking of a gathering of people in Chicago concerning the killing of black men.
She mentioned the mayor and a few members of clergy who spoke.....
"They were exhorting, pleading, begging.
Pfleger begging that the “coward” executioner be exposed. McCarthy exhorting gang-banging “mutual combatants” to end the warfare. Emanuel pleading that people in the community have “a moral responsibility” to come forward.
As I watched and listened to it all in TV reports and online narratives, I noticed: The loudest voices calling for an end to the slaughter came from whites.
White voices asking that we save African-American children.
Pfleger, McCarthy and Emanuel are passionate about ending the raging street crime that has turned Chicago neighborhoods into war zones. As they should be."
Where are the black voices?"
Laura Washington: Speak up, black leaders, on killings of young blacks | Chicago Sun-Times (http://chicago.suntimes.com/opinion/7/71/1080272/laura-washington-speak-black-leaders-killings-young-blacks)
I think the emphasis on police killing blacks and ignoring of blacks killing blacks sends an incorrect message. Violating the law is the centerpiece; fight back if the law enforcement does something....do nothing if not. To me, that creates a very very bad message for any young blacks.
She continues....
"Chicago has become known as the nation’s ground zero of black-on-black warfare. The gangbangers are running our streets. Black lives don’t matter to them.
But where is the black leadership in this town? Where are the moral voices? Where is their outrage? Where are their demands that the slaughter cease?"
We have all read the statistics on how many young black men are killed by blacks...it is extraordinary.
YET, and this I do not understand either, it is difficult to find those statistics anywhere in the main stream media. THEY CAN BE FOUND, but on sites that are sadly political sites. EVEN THOUGH, over 90% of blacks are killed by another black and according to Center for Disease control TWICE AS many white men are killed by police officers.
It is an election cycle. WHY are not candidates speaking to this issue ? WHY are protestors only involved in the least severe and least problematic area of shootings. WHY is not obeying the law the issue rather than the color aspect of this national disgrace. ?
I am not searching for an emotional racially charged discussion.
I AM searching for opinions on why our 'leaders" of both parties are not addressing the real problem...lack of respect for the law whether that takes the shape of a confrontation with police or not without the racial component.
OR...am I not seeing something here ???

I believe that black lives matter, but not any more than any other race. I don't care if the gang bangers wish to kill each other, but I do feel for all the black babies that get aborted each year. When you have more black babies killed every year than born, we have a problem not related to gang bangers.
Being black should not have any more special significance than being any other color. Americans have gone out of their way to make right something that happened over a century ago, and now it ought to be put to rest. If blacks have not taken advantage of everyone bending over backwards in perceived guilt, to better themselves they have no one now to blame than themselves. It's not my fault, or my family's fault. We never had slaves in my family. My family is a family of German immigrants that never owned a slave.
I will reiterate that as far as I am concerned, gang bangers can kill each other. But children should be protected, regardless of race. Those black lives do matter.

There have been of articles written on black on black crime just goggle it. You can't blame the main street media. That is not going to fly. Here are plenty of headlines. black on black crime statistics - Bing images (http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=black+on+black+crime+statistics&qpvt=black+on+black+crime+statistics&qpvt=black+on+black+crime+statistics&FORM=IGRE)
Unlike Carson, Mack the Knife, most crimes are committed by guns. Small changes in gun laws are a taboo, and no Republican candidate is going to talk about them for fear of the NRA.
The candidates right now are only talking directly to the party. The Republican party black on black crime is very low on their priority list. What is worse social programs that may help stop the conditions contributing to the problem are on the hit list of items to be cut in the budget.
Your comment on Ferguson is inaccurate. The officer wasn't brought up on charges because there was to many conflicting reports on what happened. The Justice Dept. raked the Ferguson Police Dept. over the coals for many things, racial makeup, and targeting to name a few. The Justice Dept. was criticized for their report, because the head of dept. is black. There are plenty of saints and sinners on what happened in Ferguson, and nobody is going to walk away blameless.
If you want to see a funny movie that addresses the black problem along with other problems watch Bulworth. It is a 1998 movie, and everything they address in the movie still exists. Bulworth. a Democratic senator from California, attacks the black committee for being lazy, and not involved in politics, and does it in a black church. It gets worse from there. This movie is something that you would never except out of Hollywood. The main items contributing to the problems in the black committee are lack of jobs, and drugs. It is on Starz, and it is worth seeing.
You want to stop racism. Then everybody has to start bonking everybody else until we are all the same color. That is the short version of what Bulworth solution to racism is. The long version is funnier.

The chanting, again, of what the republicans are doing ot not, as usual always biased to reflect the democratic issue or agenda.
What has the democratic party done about violence involving the use of or obtaining of a gun? TALK!!! And in cities, democrat controlled, like Chicago, with some of the toughest gun laws, they lead the statistics in daily murders....using a gun.
And what about the black on blacks issue. Just what has the democrats done except to march in where it suits an agenda, like Ferguson, and blow it out of proportion short of race rioting to make their point. Bur again, back to our favorite democrat controlled city example, Chicago...the blacks are killing themselves off at record rates.
Strict gun laws and ignoring the issue by the media and the Obamas and the Jacksons and the Sharpton racist promoters.
Please stop insulting the average American's intelligence.

If you are an example of average American intelligence, then we are really in deep trouble. Did you take a look at the Bing headlines? If you did, you wouldn't throw out there that comment that blacks are killing themselves in record numbers, and the media is ignoring the issue. What the hell good are strict gun laws, if you can travel less than 50 miles, and get a gun legally?
I am sure that they are getting guns illegally. Is that justification for not doing anything about guns in the hands of criminals and crazies? I have no problem with stop and frisk. I have no problem with searching a person house for illegal weapons with little to no justification for a search warrant.
Jackson has pretty much disappeared. Sharpton is the worse kind of bigot even his voice is offensive. I surprised that he hasn't shown up on the Missouri campus. I guess that he is really believes that he is part of the media now, and is not welcomed there. That hasn't stopped him from going to places that he wasn't welcomed before.
What have the Republicans done about gun laws besides stopping any legislation that may address the issue? Since they are obstructing any new gun laws, all the Democrats can do is TALK.

Well the first mistake concerning this topic is that "they" turn to the government to solve the problem. However the only people who can solve this racial problem is the black population. The government's solutions since the 1964 civil rights Movement have failed and actually the more the government governs the worse this nations racial problems progress.
With the advent of Obama/Holder/Sharpton organized effort the racial divide is worse then what it had been prior to 1964.
Organizations like Black Lives Matter are not only dangerous because they intentionally misrepresent law enforcement bias as to shootings, arrest and incarcerations but also because they have become a collective bully unit intent on intimidating political leaders with threats anarchy.
Leaders such as the President of University of Missouri who resign under such allegations are cowards giving in to these political canards
Statistically black leaders cannot support their claims and national statistics defeat their allegations so what is left we winessed that in Ferguson and other cities
Common sense dictates that all lives matter but Sharpton et al agenda is painfully obvious.
So Republicans know that the cards ar stack against them and if they have any hope of getting elected they are forced on such issues to remain silent because they are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't
Frankly the Black Lives Matter movement is obviously lacking credibility "but for"the main street media the movement would have disappeared long ago
Personal Best Regards:

Nice try, but the rules of a forum is that THE TROLL may not call others by its own nomenclature. So, you being the liberal troll may not come on a predominantly conservative forum and start running amok with name calling, and insisting that everyone else is a troll. You always whine about respect. Then quit being so childish.

Gang bangers are not killing each other with Legally purchased guns. So, your premise regarding them driving to another state doesn't work.
Strict gun laws obviously don't work, so that's a moot point. We have a federal background check for all dealer purchases.
By the way, violent crime is down from 20 years ago.
But, criminals are criminals and will always find a tool of intimidation to use when committing a crime.
You can't blame either party for their lack of understanding on how to handle the gun situation. No laws can make a difference unless you are prepared to incarcerate those that use a gun in the commission of a crime. A whole different charge, separate from the main charge. That will act as a deterrent. Having no gun zones doesn't help either. You don't have to worry about the law abiding citizen. It's the criminals that will disregard that rule/law.
So, all that aside, until someone can come up with something that can be applied to the water supply that will make people non-violent, we will always have murders. But, as long as judges and politicians keep commuting sentences of violent offenders, then there is no deterrent to crime. So far, the only deterrent available right now is straight shooting COPs. COPs that put down these mad animals in the street.

We travel a lot annually, mostly sone where in the USA. Did enough rest of the world travel while working.
As a result one gets the real perspective of who and what the American people really are and America is for real.
It is not the prejudiced, racist, unfriendly, partisan, back stabbing, ruthless, gun toting, partisan liars the media and politicians would have us believe.
The good news is all the crap and lies are confined to a very few.
The bad news we in the majority continue to allow these vermin to REPRESENT us.

This is very disappointing.
The thread was wondering about candidates and should they be addressing this problem head on ignoring the political pressure and speaking to adherence to the law without any input on color, and you guys never disappoint...right to the gutter we go.
And yet you criticize people on either side of the aisle who do exactly what you do.
Very sad to live in The Villages and think my neighbors are this insensitive to reality and refuse to accept it.
We deserve what we get.

Duhhh, the subject of the thread is regarding race. Wow, are you really that naive, or do you just have a great need for attention?
You are very good at diverting from the thread, and then whining about how no one respects you. Why don't you give us your thought related to the thread and then we can call it a conversation.

Driving 50 miles to purchase a gun wasn't my premise. Take a look at my next sentence. The premise that I think that I was addressing was Chicago has strict gun laws, and that hasn't deterred gun violence at all. So, why have strict gun laws at all?
Release prisoners in jail for small amount of illegal drug use, and possession. Then, fill the jails with violent lawbreakers that use guns. Mandatory sentence for people caught with illegal guns, and real long sentences for repeat offenders.
I find it hard to believe that cops don't know, who the major drug dealers are in each large city. An asset test is one way to know. They probably are hiding their money. but their life style is something that probably isn't that well hidden. Maybe we should have a real war on crime instead of a meaning less slogan.

Ok....I began this thread and your insults aside, I may not be clear but this is specifically how I ended my OP...
"It is an election cycle.
It was NOT about race.......the point was and still is for me, perhaps not clearly stated, that our constant beating to death the race issue instead of the law issue being debated. We get caught up in race when in fact the issue is about respect for the law.
I don't think one poster has addressed what I was suggesting and that is fine, but I sure did not expect to be insulted by you since I began the thread.
To your point...DUH, the thread is about everyone making it race when it is more about the law and nobody addresses it in that manner.

I'd take it one step further. Decriminalize the use of drugs, but charge any drug pusher arrested with manslaughter. Take away the incentive of pushing drugs and you will see less drug usage as the availability dries up.
Guns are not the problem in this country. People are the problem. Most of your gun deaths are due to suicide, so if you take those out of the equation and the justifiable shootings, then most of your illegal gun activity is in the inner cities with the gang bangers.

I posted why the candidates are not preaching obeying the law and that all lives matter and to attack black on black crime, AS WELL AS WHITE ON BLACK OR POLICE ON BLACK.
Well, it appears too late to take this out of the political sphere.....so how does this get resolved once it involved these politicians....everything is made into politics....
"Some of the biggest donors on the left plan to meet behind closed doors next week in Washington with leaders of the Black Lives Matter movement and their allies to discuss funding the burgeoning protest movement, POLITICO has learned.
The meetings are taking place at the annual winter gathering of the Democracy Alliance major liberal donor club, which runs from Tuesday evening through Saturday morning and is expected to draw Democratic financial heavyweights, including Tom Steyer and Paul Egerman.

Any and all racial issues will never be solved now. It has entered the political arena and that dooms any success or rational discussion.
This remark has nothing to do with this organization but my observation is that with these folks getting money from the left, and the founders being anarchists, the left going further left and more toward socialism, the country will be a very socialist country in the future with NO respect for law and more people in the streets demonstrating than ever.

I realize with the new way of thinking, I am way way out of line,
BUT...prayers for your children and grandchildren because their future is going to be in the streets but they will surely be equal to everyone else in all ways good or bad.
They will attend elementary school and then on to high school shackled (my words) with political correctness and able to hear only what the Federal Government allows; they will go on to college free and spend most time demonstrating for whatever they think they are entitled to from the Federal Government. Then graduate and move on to social work, if any work but the Federal Government will protect them from any big bad corporations; and perhaps over time the Federal Government will exercise enough power to destroy any of said corporations and then we will have that equal playing field that seems to be most important.
And if your race, religion (as long as that is allowed), height, weight, hair color or whatever seems to hold you back, demonstrate, destroy and someone somewhere..read Federal Government... will protect you and get you what you want.
Does anyone think that will bring Utopia ?

Yep, Obama and his liberal followers. But, if they are as smart as they think they are, they also know that socialism (equalism) will eventually destroy America. But, truth be told liberals are anarchists at heart.

Why release non-violent offenders from jail? Over crowding? Then make larger penitentiaries. For crying out loud, it's getting so extreme anymore that folks say stuff like "if you don't agree with my deal, then you want a war." There are other alternatives, almost always.
In the Bible, it is suggested that ALL sins are equally bad, but only one is unforgivable. I don't believe that all crimes are equally bad, but they all DO deserve penalties. Penalties that are strict enough to deter future crime. And studies show that the majority of prisoners released from jail are repeat offenders.
Charge drug pushers with murder or manslaughter and either put them away for good or execute them. There, no more drugs on the street.
Throw employers in jail if they hire illegals and there will be no illegals because there will be no jobs for them.
Sorry if I don't have any patience with liberals. I get tired of them jumping into the lion's cage, thinking that they are going to reason with him. Babysitting liberals in America is very tiring.

Yep, Obama and his liberal followers. But, if they are as smart as they think they are, they also know that socialism (equalism) will eventually destroy America. But, truth be told liberals are anarchists at heart.
I am not sure about the followers and the generalization that you make.
President Obama grew up and worked as a young man with anarchists and their causes, and I think he believes in much of what he is doing.
I also have opinions on his "followers". I think some actually believe in the moves being made. I think some totally oppose it. I think some are uncomfortable but are being pulled along by party loyalty.
Socialism, anarchy and anything related have proven over centuries to be a failed concept. It has destroyed economies and countries when tried. The movement in the Democratic party going so fast forward to this kind of government is downright scary.
I hear folks demonizing the tax plans of the Republican candidates. They say loudly it favors the rich. CRAP. It helps all and does favor CORPORATIONS, the ones with the jobs. That is heresy to anyone with the socialist and anarchy bones in them but it is true. We hear very little about any tax plans from the left.
Next thing to remember...NO CANDIDATE can simply swoop in and put in his/her tax plan. These plans are simply allowing us a look at how the candidate feels about certain things. Trust me, nobody's tax plan is going into effect just like the media is presenting it to us.
I honestly feel very pessimistic about what is happening in this country. I said back in 2008 that if President Obama was elected we would move closer to this stage of socialism, etc. His supporters on this board said that cannot happen...but guess what. It has happened so close to what I said it scares me.
That is not me patting myself on the back...trust me, I am not that smart. I read all of his writings, ALL of them. I read any archives from Chicago that I could get hold of about what he was doing and what he was saying.
NOT ONE THING is a surprise to me, and I am not enthusiastic about our future, and that does not mean one party versus another.
We are on the verge, not of party change but a basic change in our country. Warts and all, we have done well. We do need changes. We do NOT need this quick in this direction, and that is my concern. I think it is now out of control and as they say "cannot be put back in the bottle"

Aren't we tired of seeing and hearing about the subject of this thread?
We all know black lives matter for political gain/votes or furthering an agenda or getting another handout!
Flyspecks in the pepper!

Black lives matter is racist and therefore not politically correct. So the expression should be banned.
If I was to say that white lives matter, stating the obvious then there would be an uproar of disapproval.
Therefore, the saying has to be revised to incorporate all, and will here after be enunciated as "All lives matter." A statement of profound enlightenment.

The point is, to me anyway, that this group appears to be on the verge of getting strong financing from a political party or the donors attached to a political party.
Secondly, the group getting this financing and affiliation with a political party was founded by 3 people who are avowed anarchists.
The party affiliation is with a party that has a socialist candidate and another moving further in that direction and words like "equality for all" are trademarks of it.

Rumor has it that two of the three subjects you refer to have close past ties to Obama, AKA Barry. I can neither confirm or deny that information.

These are the three founders.....
ALICIA GARZA....."Alicia Garza is an activist and writer who lives in Oakland, California. She has organized around the issues of gaining rights for domestic workers, ending police brutality, anti-racism, and violence against trans* and gender non-conforming people of color. Her writing has been published by the Guardian,[1] the Nation,[2] the Feminist Wire,[3] and truthout.org. She is a contributing writer for WarTimes Magazine.[4] She is the Executive Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance as well as a cofounder of the Black Lives Matter movement.[5]"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alicia_Garza
The magazine she is listed as a contributing writer has this to say about their work...
"War Times/Tiempo de Guerras was started to help broaden and deepen the fight against the Bush Administration response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. We believed then - and believe today - that the regime of permanent war begun under Bush cannot and will not prevent terrorist attacks. We believed then - and still believe - that civilians abroad and poor and working people and communities of color in this country would take the most casualties in a so-called "War on Terror."

PATRISSE CULLORS.."Cullors was born in Los Angeles. She became an activist early in life. Cullors is queer, and says her parents asked her to leave home. She earned a degree in religion and philosophy from UCLA.
She practices the Nigerian religious tradition of Ifà.[1]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrisse_Cullors
NOTE: THE word "queer" is in the description and was not added.
She is also the co founder of this group....DIGNITY AND POWER FOREVER
"Dignity and Power Now (DPN) is a grassroots organization based in Los Angeles that fights for the dignity and power of incarcerated people, their families, and communities. In doing so DPN wages a fight for all lives because the prison industrial complex forms an imaginative limit on everyone’s capacity to envision freedom and liberation."
ABOUT | Dignity and Power Now (http://dignityandpowernow.org/about-us/)
"Opal Tometi is a Black feminist writer, communications strategist and cultural organizer. She is a co-founder of #BlackLivesMatter, the historic political project and leader-full network was launched in the wake of the murder of Trayvon Martin in order to explicitly combat implicit bias and anti-black racism and to protect and affirm the beauty and dignity of all Black lives. Ms. Tometi is currently at the helm of the country’s leading Black organization for immigrant rights, the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI), a national organization that educates and advocates to further immigrant rights and racial justice together with African-American, Afro-Latino, African and Caribbean immigrant communities."
BAJI (http://www.blackalliance.org/about/bajistaff/)
NONE have connections to the WH in anyway.

Interesting that they are being funded NOW by various...
".....leftist billionaire George Soros gave more than $30 million in seed money to Black Lives Matter affiliated groups."
".......Google is also helping to fund the Black Lives Matter movement, giving $2.35 million in grants to activist organizations addressing the “racial injustices that have swept the nation.”

The firm of Obama and Obama, Jackson and Sharpton have done a wonderful job regressing the progress of blacks.
They have a coat of arms which I do not have a copy of showing them all in fire suits holding gas cans and matches withe this in a scroll underneath....where is the fire and how can we help?

Outlandish is anyone putting up with "black lives matter" BS. And Obama encourages it. Racial tensions have expanded out of control since Obama became president. Do you think we would be having this conversation if someone like Colin Powell was president?

Sorry.
I posted that and stand by it. I am not a fan of our President by any stretch but that post was so outlandish. Making an accusation like that is just immature and out of line and serves zero purpose.

If you investigate this movement, you may be surprised at what you discover. Obama has ties to some very shady characters. A shady Muslim financier that helped him get "special financing" for his home. A billionaire socialist backer, a domestic terrorist bomber, a radical hate spewing preacher, etc. You don't have to like the truth, only accept it or ignore it....your choice.

Ah yes, a firm believer of the first amendment. Sensitive, are we? Wait until Shrilary gets indicted. There will be plenty of good material there.
