... those very patriotic young Progressives who stalked the West Coast airports and hurled insults and committed assaults on our brave young men who were returning from Vietnam .

Their actions have left a lifetime of emotional scars on a countless number of those men who had only answered the call of their Democratic President LBJ to risk their lives in service to their country .

Many of the people who targeted our returning military have since
spent a lifetime in academia and in activist movements designed to erode the foundation of the USA .

They should all pause and recall their actions and feel very proud of how they havecaused a lifetime of hurt to their fellow Americans .

The cupcake remark was made to the OP and his ridiculous cohort who agreed with him.

The "heroes" were the draft evaders who had the courage to go to Canada instead of fighting in a civil war which meant nothing to America. 58,000 killed for absolutely no good reason!

Makes no difference who was President. The US had no reason to get involved in a civil war.

The scumbag, traitors that evaded the draft should not be allowed to enter the U.S. ever again. It's one thing not to volunteer, but to abandon your fellow Americans when a Democrat president wants to go to war, is still despicable. If they didn't lover their country enough to support it even when they did not agree with it's policies, then they should stay out of it when it becomes convenient to crawl back in. Clinton was a draft dodger and should have stayed in the UK where he hid from the war. Another reason to dislike the scumbag family of Clintons.

Yes, the draft resisters of the Vietnam War had the moral courage to demonstrate against an unjust war and the courage to evade the draft by going to Europe or Canada.

They are the ones with strong courage and a belief in freedom - not the SHEEP who went to the slaughterhouse.

Of course, we should honor the fallen troops on Memorial Day.

Respect the ones who made a difference to end the Vietnam War by resisting. They have the true courage.

The draft dodgers were COWARDS and are still cowards afraid to admit who they are. They would get NO support today and they would be punished when they open their coward mouths. They hide on blogs in their momma's basement, grown adults with no self confidence and probably even turned gay out of frustration because no real woman would want them. Yes, I saw their courage when they demonstrated in D.C. and how they ran like the sissies they are, when the construction workers came down off the buildings and chased them. I bet a few never returned to protesting, when they had their faces rearranged. Yep, cowards. Too bad they worshiped the Democrat president that got us into the wars that they so cowardly hated. Too bad that they were the ones that voted for that Democrat president and contributed to the very war that they cowardly ran from.

Don't worry, there will always be the decent folks that will clean up after you. God Bless my fellow Veterans and those that gave their lives so that scumbags can disparage and belittle their faith in their country that they fought for.

You, my friend have a debt to those veterans and to your country that you will never be able to pay off.

I didn't think pausing to remember Memorial Day was going to lead to such tripe. Let's pause to remember with dignity.

Volunteer? They were drafted, conscripted, enslaved, to fight a political war. It wasn't about the spread of communism. That's the BS story thay told us so we'd support it. Same with Iraq and it's WMDs. Syria and whatever the hell the excuse will be there.

It's ALL just BS to get the people to go along while they get rich on government contracts.

Resisting had no effect on the end of the war. The Tet Offensive showed that indigenous support was too high. Think of the French resistance to the Germans, same thing here but against us and overwhelming. We were run out.

And that's what always makes me angry. They should not have not been deceived in the first place.

I don't feel sorry for LBJ. He didn't have the balls to do what he wanted to do. That doesn't sound like him, does it?

I'm sorry it wasn't stopped much sooner. I'm sorry if you also lost loved ones.

Just about everybody I knew who ended in in Vietnam were either drafted or enlisted with promises from the recruiter to keep them out. No one that came back felt that we should have been there. In fact, very little was said.

As a baby boomer growing up Memorial Day was about WWII and to a lesser extent WWI.

You think this was the first time governments deceived the people to go to war? How about ALL of them... WWI, over some unknown duke? Nope. WWII, Pearl Harbor. We knew it was coming, we did nothing as an excuse to get into the war. Iraq, WMDs. Nothing found, it was a ruse to get us involved in another money making "war".

Our leaders are anything but...they're greedy psychopaths.

This Thread is NOT a discussion about the justification of the war . It is about the young men who did serve who were taunted , spit upon and attacked as soon as they set foot back in the USA .
Anytime I have watched a program about the returning soldiers or spoken with one of them they universally recall being shocked and extremely hurt over the attacks that took place in those airports on the West Coast .
The Liberals on this site as do Liberals everywhere are quick to obfuscate the subject . It`s about young men age 20 + who returned to be attacked , insulted and driven to tears by the misplaced aggression of Lefties .

We used to celebrate with a town parade. The kids, like me, would jazz up our bikes with balloons hitting the spokes and ride along the sides of the parade. After the parade the fire department took over the Acme parking lot and gave out hot dogs and beer. There was a band on a wooden bandstand and a few speeches. Those were the days my friend, I wished they'd............................................ ..............

My father was a career soldier -- was a mustang, fought and was wounded in WWII, fought in Korea, died as a full bird at age 36. My brother served three tours in Vietnam. He hated that war, never believed in it but felt he could save some lives by returning time after time. He applauded those that fought against Nam here. Cassius Clay/Muhummad Ali was greatly admired by my brother for having the courage to stand behind his convictions. He had less respect for those who went to Canada, although he understood their reasons. In between tours, he was known to take part in protests. I was the college student who refused to partake, feeling it showed disrespect to my father and brother although I wholeheartedly agreed that Vietnam was an obscenity.

Yes, my brother was spat on and shoved going through airports while in uniform. His attitude was that the folks abusing him were not angry at him but angry at the war and the system. He got lovely discounts when he flew in uniform and took the abuse with a huge grain of salt. I met him at both LAX and SFO many times. Not once did I see a soldier in tears because of poor treatment. I did see one or two with tears in their eyes just happy to be home. I'd like to think our military are a little thought than that, especially since most knew they'd be walking into a maelstrom when they got off the plane.

So, like Memorial Days in the past, I'll honor my father and brother and all those who served. I'll say a special prayer for my mother and all military brats. Their tours may have been more difficult than those who actually served. Sitting, waiting and praying is frequently harder than doing.

And thank you so much for The Soaring Eagles video. I did cry (a lot).

58,000 Americans killed and no one on this forum has given a good reason why the USA was involved in an Asian civil war.

And yet, there are posters calling the draft resisters "cowards". If there was no danger to our country, there was no reason to be involved, was there?

Let's hear some valid reasons why 58,000 Americans had to be killed in an Asian civil war.

Originally Memorial Day was about honoring those who died in the Civil War . It was originally called " Remembrance Day " .

My error !

Today " Memorial Day " was originally called
" Decoration Day ". It was a day set aside to honor all of those who died in the Civil War .
The practice was to visit graves of the fallen and place flowers on their resting place .
What we now call " Veterans Day " was originally established to honor those who gave their lives in WW-I and was called " Remembrance Day " .

What difference does it make? Libtards are inherently disrespectful cowards and never listen to anyone that disagrees with them anyway. They just bait and scream louder than anyone else so you can't be heard. If you think that it is better to fight wars over here than overseas, then you are much more stupid than I give you credit for. But, I will give you the benefit of doubt and agree that your Democrat president should have thought things out better before entering into the conflict, knowing how bad the French fared when they occupied Vietnam. Liberals are famous for starting fights and then blaming the Republicans. I believe it was Nixon that ended our involvement in Vietnam. Hmm, and he was a Republican.

Since we are the power that attempts to balance the world scale, we sometimes get cries for help from other countries. If we are given the responsibility of greatness in this world, we should not ignore the rest of the world. We also give billions of dollars in foreign aid every year. Are you against that also? If so, just what kind of libtard are you? I already know that liberals are cowards, but you brag about being concerned with the plight of the little guy. Perhaps that is all a sham, a lie?

More lies from the left. Nice try. Factcheck.org says different.

This is an old issue, not Memorial Day. Trump petitioned for the city not to allow any street venders on the same street as his building. And it is almost a year old issue. It's real cute how you said "homeless Vets" when no one said that.

Is that the way you want to win, by lying like your criminal nominee, Killary Klinton?

The issue arose again in 2004 when the regulations came up for renewal, and Trump continued his appeal, this time to then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
“Whether they are veterans or not, [the vendors] should not be allowed to sell on this most important and prestigious shopping street,” Trump wrote to Bloomberg, the Daily Beast reported. “The image of New York City will suffer. … I hope you can stop this very deplorable situation before it is too late.”
The Daily Beast notes that “[p]eddlers were largely banned from Fifth Avenue, but they continued to sell their wares on the side streets.” The story includes a photo of a row of planters installed in front of Trump Tower to discourage vendors from setting up shop outside his building.

Hmm, no mention of "homeless Vets."
How dare him to not allow vendors outside the door of his business! How many on here complain when a neighbor violates The Villages home owner property rules? You moved here because you didn't want your neighborhood to turn into the ghetto. And you don't want solicitors at your doors. Give it a break. I am sure you can come up with something of substance on The Donald if you look way back during his high school years. Maybe he bullied someone and gave him a haircut, or something like that.

I wasn't either, watching our country turn "dark" and 3rd world is what put the fear of our future and hate in me.

Naw, it doesn't matter EXCEPT when Bush invaded Iraq, right?

A Democrat president got us into the Vietnam war, where we lost almost 60,000 Americans, but there's nothing here to see, folks. On the other hand, if a Republican gets us into a war where a couple thousand die, then you want him impeached and tried for war crimes. Very disingenuous.

You say a "few thousand die" like it's nothing. Try telling that to the parents of these "few thousand".

It was announced very early in the Obama term that George W Bush would not be tried for war crimes, although he is still banned in several European countries and has not left the US since leaving office.

The biggest draft dodger of all, Donald J Trump, is not afraid to admit how he avoided going to Viet Nam with four deferments. Why is he allowed to continually bash Senator John McCain for being locked up for seven years as a POW?

You say a "few thousand die" like it's nothing. Try telling that to the parents of these "few thousand".

It was announced very early in the Obama term that George W Bush would not be tried for war crimes, although he is still banned in several European countries and has not left the US since leaving office.

Not true ! He and his wife have visited Africa in support of the HIV/ AIDS relief program he initiated as president .

Call out the "libtards" for dodging the draft, but your right wing fascist leader Donald Trump seems to have dodged the draft also. Maybe he should go to the other side of the wall he plans on building and stay there.

They say ignorance is bliss, and I bet you are very blissful..:)

Bush is not banned in any countries.

From Politifact:
"Interpol, the international police organization, does not list any outstanding arrest warrants for Bush or Cheney in their searchable database. Meanwhile, experts in international law said they were not aware of pending warrants, particularly from the most obvious entity that might issue one -- the International Criminal Court in the Hague."

Bush visited Haiti as part of an effort by the charitable foundation he co-founded with former President Bill Clinton after a devastating earthquake in the Caribbean nation. And Bush also joined Clinton at a regional economic summit held in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Cheney, meanwhile, has gone to British Columbia to promote his book, In My Time: A Personal and Political Memoir."
=========
Bush has also been traveling to Africa where he has been working on cancer clinics and treatment for reducing HIV/AIDs in Africa. His effort has assisted in reducing the number of AIDs victims in Africa.

Bush has done more for Africa than Obama, the African.

This is not the time to discuss or argue our involvement in any wars where Americans lost their lives. Whether we should have been involved or not these soldiers lost their lives in the service of this country, that cannot be debated. Let us delay the justification discussion for tomorrow.

That's our future as they become the majority. Just like EVERYWHERE else that has been overrun with minorities, this country will become lawless and violent.

Enjoy the destruction you have wrought...you gave the country away to a bunch of idiots.

You are probably right, and it will be your ilk that pays for it in the long run. You will pay for her crimes. And the idiots keep on laughing as Rome is burning.

Boring.........

Won't be when THEY are the majority and the streets aren't safe for white people...

At what point will you wake up and see the reality of the situation? They are breeding us out of our own country, they WILL become the new majority in 20+ years. The country will be a completely different place, more seedy, more violent, poorer, dangerous.

But that's thinking ahead...that's boring.

It must be difficult knowing that the people who take care of you when you are too old to take care of yourself will probably be from a minority group.

It is actually...knowledge IS a curse. God was right to make knowledge a sin.

Hopefully, I'll go quickly and won't need prolonged care.

We will not be treated well.

They hate us...we will see how much.

YOU let this happen electing the liars and thieves of the D and R party who sold us out to the corporations.

Actually, it's a pretty fair description of the deniers who deny diversity is slowly destroying us.

I'll let this one slide.

My complaint with the Bible is the people who believe it's "inspired by God". It was written by men.

No one denies that it was written by men. Look up the definition of "inspired." Google is your friend.

I'm not the one who believes in an invisible man in space that knows everything and can do everything, spies on us, and lets the most horrific things happen to people...because he loves us all.

Do you have any idea how many different religions there are? Each one thinking THEY have the answers! There are no "answers", there is no reason you are here, no grand plan. We're all just bugs scurrying about like all the rest on this planet.

Just enjoy your life and treat others fairly.

Seriously ---- is this the only form of entertainment that you have in your day to day life .
Why do you so enjoy coming to this site and acting so superior to everyone and so contentious .
Why can`t you stay focused on politics and stop mocking the belief system of others ? Does this make you feel superior ? It does appear so .
If you want to support your candidates please do but why don`t you leave the closest held beliefs of others alone .
You are acting like a bully and should have more self pride than you display .

Only an idiot or the brainwashed could truly believe such nonsense as religion and "Gods". Neither's judgement can be trusted. Religion is a lucrative profession, why do you think there are over 5000 different sects of Christianity alone? Tithe...10%, that's what they want. Why doesn't God smite the TV preachers everyone knows are crooks?

It's only words, what are you afraid of? That it could be true? The ONLY difference between a cult and a religion is how many suckers they can get to join.

Just trying to open up your eyes to a few truths.

Don't bring it up if you can't defend your position.

Are you 12? Calling me a bully? For speaking the truth?

THAT is the problem, everyone running around believing what they WANT to believe instead of believing the TRUTH.

That is part of the destruction of our society, culture, and nation. People are encouraged to have the most insane ideas about things.

Like religion, equality, and others...

Wow, you need to take your meds, or cut back on them or something. You are going to hurt yourself if you aren't more careful. You really think that you are right and everyone else in the world is wrong?

Better go answer your door. They are there to help you.
