How did he do that (other than just taking credit for it)...and what is the rest of the story?
After Trump pledged to keep Carrier jobs in U.S., company says it won’t move nearly 1,000 to Mexico - The Washington Post (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/11/29/donald-trump-has-reached-a-deal-with-a-manufacturer-to-keep-jobs-from-going-to-mexico/?utm_term=.adbd7d2abcb5)

I know politicians say things that even they don't believe just to be elected, they lie, they make promises that they know that they won't keep and they take credit for things that they had nothing to do with. Should I go on......

Made a promise...made a threat...politics as usual.
Nothing political has much merit.
The difference between a decision making, commitment making executive is following through and obtaining results based on a promise or a forecast....quite simply promises kept VS promises made. Unlike politicians there is commitment and accountability.
Trump is not politics as usual.
Will he have to play the game domestically and world wide?
Certainly.
Just look at how he is matching the needs of the jobs he is filling with capability VS the establishment crony method of filling jobs with those who support the agenda regardless whether they are capable or not.
What Trump knows and practices is negotiating to achieve an objective. Unlike Obama who has no concept whatsoever of how to negotiate. Obama will concede anthing to get something for his agenda.
Trump will negotiate to make the deal.
Let's have this discussion again on the 101st day he is in office.

What's "usual" about it? Do you have any clue as to what politicians are supposed to do?
What they're "supposed to do" and what they actually do are diametrically opposed. They're supposed to work for the people, they really work for the corporations and powerful...and of course...themselves.
I know politicians say things that even they don't believe just to be elected, they lie, they make promises that they know that they won't keep and they take credit for things that they had nothing to do with. Should I go on......
So then...WHY do we keep voting for them? Everybody knows the Ds and Rs BOTH lie to us...so why do we keep electing them? I voted 3rd party, I refuse to vote for a "lesser" EVIL. If we ALL voted 3rd party we COULD "drain the swamp". A vote for a 3rd party makes their total go up, not the Ds or the Rs...it's part of the lies they tell us...it's NOT a vote for "the other guy", it's a vote against them both. We have the government we voted for, we should have voted for someone else. A REAL outsider.

You've been fooled...again. Trump is business as usual...or he WON'T survive the electoral college vote next month. They will NOT allow their carefully crafted system to be taken apart by one man. There will be an accident, he won't make it to inauguration or much after if he's really a rogue. The VP will then play ball...and the borrowing and spending and getting rich will continue.

Trump had over 30,000 employees before he was elected. How many employees does Hillary have? How many did Obama have when he was elected? When will the gov, run by Obama catch up with employment equal to 2008? There are ten million more people not in the labor force than there was in 2008.

Twenty-five million new jobs in ten years is just one of the 282 promises Trump made before the election. Some reporters spent weeks counting up the promises so they can hold Trump's feet to the fire.
Bad loser? Au contraire. It is rather enjoyable watching Trump these days, the game show host running a game show presidency. Captain Chaos. The Trumps are turning in to the Kardashians.

How many of Trump's 30,000 employees actually work in the USA? It is tough to make America great again when the bulk of your work force is overseas.
So far in Obama's two terms, 14 million private sector jobs have been created, with 71 straight months of positive job growth.
In 2008, the US faced the worst recession since the great depression, and we were losing 750,000 jobs per month with the Dow hovering around 6000 and the unemployment rate at 10%. Who would you rather take over from, Barack Obama or George W Bush?

What a load of cr@p! Obama is still in the hole. Compare the job force stats with when he was elected. Just because he told you how well you are doing, you should be able to tell a lie why you hear it. Obama has not yet reached the level of 2008 in anything positive. Work Force, nope. Food stamp recipients, nope. Poverty level, nope. Still millions without health insurance. Highest percentage of health care insurance costs in history. Economic growth, the worst in history. He has not achieved a year of 3% GDP growth in his 8 years, which makes it a record. No other president has achieved so little. And you applaud him? Wow, some folks are not only blind but naive. On top of all of this, he is the most divisive president in history. Race relations are worst than ever. More cop killings than ever.
But, on a positive note, he has done very well at late night TV.. But, if he wasn't president, I doubt anyone would laugh at him.

There is no free lunch, either tax payers or shareholders are taking it in the shorts. You cannot make widgets paying employees $30 an hour with benefits while someone else is paying 10% of that and getting higher productivity and quality. Who can afford to buy those widgets besides the government? If there was no tax payer money involved in this agreement I'll come back and fall on my sword, although I'm not concerned.

It helps that he has the governor of IN on his team. The same governor who could offer a company all kinds of special incentives.

The biggies, those who matter...bailed out decades ago. These are the widows and orphans...too late to the party as usual.
The bigger...the biggest picture is...rich and powerful men run huge corporations that make them tons of money and give them power. They use that money and power to "stack" governments to their advantage so they can acquire even more money and power. The politicians are placed in position so they can do the bidding of the rich and powerful, they're the ones who do the actual "stacking" of the government positions/regulators who do the rich and powerful's bidding.
Trump only becomes president if "they" approve of it...it'll be a VERY short tenure.

Oh yes...get them to stay no matter the cost! I've seen it, they get an offer they can't refuse...because it's so good. No taxes and tax CREDITS for like 50 years to keep/bring in a plant that will hire just a few hundred. The city/county/state loses big time, the citizens lose.

Carrier and Ford are just dress rehearsals for Trump ( iesending up test balloons) . He and his staff are just fine tuning the process.
Nature abhors a vacuum and we see what has become of Detroit and its surrounding cities because of Democrats misguided policies.
I completely believe in the concept of competitive advantage and international trade but we have reached some adverse tipping points that need to be rounded out.
People either forget or intentionally ignore Trump's modus operandi. He is always going to claim the high ground that's what negotiators do. He is always going to be aggressive and be challenging .
Progressives will continue their misinformation fear mongering games because that is the only thing they are good at anymore.

Trump is taking credit for talking United Technology out of moving the entire Carrier plant to Mexico. About half the Carrier jobs will move to Mexico.
In return, United Technology will be getting some real sweet deas with the Department of Defense. You can bet that was part of Trump's dealing - but that is nothing new in government deals.
Also, special tax exemptions were made to stay in Indiana. why didn't Pence do those when he was governor of Indiana?
Trump is taking credit for saving jobs. Why not? It looks good and he is not backing out of all of his campaign promises. It is nothing that a smart businessman should not be doing. Keep it up and do good.

Carrier will be receiving (reports vary) between $700,000 and one million dollars per year for ten years in tax credits to keep this one plant in Indiana.
Gov Mike Pence is still governor of Indiana until his successor is sworn in. Too bad he doesn't have the authority to negotiate these tax deals in other states.
How many jobs would Trump create if he moved all his Trump lines to the US: Trump suits, Trump shirts, Trump cufflinks, Trump furniture, Trump ties?
How many jobs would he create if he stopped using Chinese steel and started using US steel in all of his new buildings?

PS could somebody tell Obama we just had a tragedy in Gatlinburg Tennessee. We still haven't heard from him, but Trump called.
The president seems to be thinking about Trump dealing with all the trouble spots around the world.

You're right about a big pile of crap being left but conveniently ignored the source. Manufacturing declined steadily, deficient spending increased yearly, and we engaged in a long costly war we should not have during a Republican presidency. We now elected a cross between a democrat and republican who promised a whole lot of something for nothing. We are a superior people, are we not?

Since he is stepping away from his company, the kids will have to answer these questions.
Trump and the right would have been screeching and howling...had Obama tried to tell him where he could have his stuff manufactured.
Frigging hypocrites. :ohdear:

Excellent picture of the cockpit of the control center as designed and attempting to operate crony establishment.
Things that complex are easy to fix. Just mow the establishment the hell out of the way and get risd of anybody or anything that has no direct effect on the operation. Then watch the level of employment in most all government entities takse a nose dive.

Oh yes CHI...the black man was adept with such complications, masterfully tweaking and adjusting here and there. BULLSH!T...
You REALLY think each newly elected president becomes the ultimate "boss" of the whole country...in essence the whole world? Are you kidding?
They get elected to be the "King and Queen" for 4 years. They talk, play golf, travel, meet royalty and dignitaries, have dinners, get entertained...and their ONLY job is to make the people WANT them to steal from us. They announce this program and that...costly for sure...to SOLVE this and that problem. A "problem" they made themselves.
Presidents are actors who convince us we need to take our medicine...eat our broccoli...pay the bills so they can skim/steal.
EVERYTHING get s done by someone else and only "needs approval" when approval is needed.
Trumps advisors are the same old republicans that ANY administration would have picked...My God...Romney? Gordon Gekko? Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. The system runs itself, presidents don't change it. Trump had harder decisions with his businesses than he'll have as president. The decisions are already made his job is to sell them to the people...like a good CEO can do.

Government incentives, otherwise known as "corporate welfare" saved the jobs in Indiana. I'm sure every CEO in America is salivating this morning at the thought of declaring that they also are going to move jobs out of the country so that they also can get this sweetheart deal. In Conservative America we are happy to give welfare to corporations, but resent having to provide it for the poor and hungry. Trump's original idea of how to deal with this problem was to enforce a huge tax on goods imported back into America from companies that export jobs. That seemed more fair and efficient to me.

they R investing 16 million the ripple effect in the state over 10 years is like 70 million.
However, Carrier has to meet certain criteria to get the tax credits.
It's not sweet hart deal if you look into it.
Moreover, Trump pulled it off by picking up the phone on Thanksgiving day and calling Carrier
all before being sworn in?????:eclipsee_gold_cup:
Obama sat on his hands for 8 years never made an attempt to save those jobs, HRC would have followed suit.
A tariff is still planed for imported goods, this also is having a big effect in Mexico.

I continue to believe this country is in desperate need of a balance budget amendment. When you give one group of voters a financial benefit, justified or not, politicians should have to look the rest of us in eyes and tell us why we are paying for it. That step is completely missing from our form of government. If America really wants change a forced balanced budget is the only path. I don't think you would have seen Hillary, Trump, or Bernie on TV at all last year. It would have been a different cast of characters with a different Senate and House. That would be real change.

Of course we need a balanced budget...we're $20 TRILLION in debt right now...$20,000,000,000,000 in the hole. We BORROW another $1 trillion each year. We're bankrupt, we're dead broke. We spend $600,000,000,000 a year on interest alone.
To add insult to injury, to ENSURE we never recover...the demographics are changing from white to Hispanic/black. The country is doomed. A 3rd world Mexico II within 30 years.

Isn't it amazing how the left complained about big business moving overseas to avoid paying taxes and now complain because big business might be forced to stay here? But, it was OK for Obama to bail out GM and then have them turn around and move overseas. It was OK for Obama to exempt unions from Obamacare. It was OK for Obama to cause the loss of thousands of jobs when he forced dealerships to close. Oh, you liberals forgot about that issue? Yes, it was in his first term so it is better to sweep it under the carpet, right?
