Patch a hole help

Ok, put up a picture and put it up too high. Now, I have a hole to patch. I'm used to smooth walls. What is the best way to patch a hole on these walls? Please use simple terms as I'm not handy. Thanks

It depends on the size of the hole/patch. A small one can simply be filled with spackling (sp?) compound with putty knife. When painted over it will probably not be noticeable.
I the patch is so large it is going to stand out the solution is at your closest hardware store. There is a spray in a pressurized container that will replicate the wall finish. Just explain your situation to the paint sales person and they will advise you what to get and how to use it.

you can find Spackle in small containers all set to use. The one I have goes on pink so you can see it and then it dries neutral. You might have to sand the filler down after it dries to smooth it out. Then just pain with your regular paint color. With all our moves I have patched a lot of holes and this always works best for me. Just go to someplace like Lowe's or Home depot and they will point you in the right direction.

(Oh how I love quick, simple and cheap!):

Put a generous amount of spackling or joint compound in the small hole. You can apply it with anything, even your finger. Just dab it with a wad of toilet paper or paper towel and you get the same "rough" finish as the rest the wall. If the material was too wet and the patch sags, dab it again as it dries. If it shrinks when dry, repeat the process.
