There has been some recent discussion about our president-elect and a supposed constitutional issue if he remains on the lease of his new hotel in D.C. Is the elected POTUS an employee of the government? My understanding is that he is not, but I can't find a supporting source.
Certainly we have someone on this forum who can answer this question. What say you? Do you have a source to site?

I think he is employed by the government. Makes for some sticky issues. Hope they can be resolved.

The Executive Branch | whitehouse.gov (https://www.whitehouse.gov/1600/executive-branch)
"The President is both head of state and head of government as well as commander-in-chief", read all about it.
President Obama's pay check comes direct from the US Treasury.

It is not intended to be a political forum question. It is simply a question for which I seek an answer - in an effort to educate myself.

Ok, but is he an employee of the government? I didn't see anything through the link to support either position though.

Of course he is a federal employee.
Pay and Benefits for Federal Employees | USAGov (https://www.usa.gov/benefits-for-federal-employees#item-36092)
Pay Scales for Federal Employees and Congress
All federal employees hired after 1983 pay Social Security taxes, including the President, the Vice President, members of Congress, sitting federal judges, certain legislative branch employees, and most political appointees. The government collects these taxes in the same amounts as they would if these employees worked in the private sector at the same salary level.

Yes the POTUS is paid from the US treasury as are Congressmen..but I think the fact that they are "elected" offficals (ie POTUS and Congressmen) they are not technically (or legally) federal employees.

That was my understanding as well.

When in doubt, ask the Tax Man (https://www.irs.gov/government-entities/federal-state-local-governments/classification-of-elected-and-appointed-officials)
