Can you tell the difference?
Which one is less expensive, all things considered?
Where can you buy minced dried garlic locally?
I have seen whole pealed garlic in a clear container someplace. That can be frozen. [$8 for 3 lbs Sam's Club]

GARLIC-there are actually many different types. The huge ones called elephant garlic are quite mild.
Anything in a jar has to be cooked first to kill micro organisms so the taste will be different than fresh.
There is powdered garlic-I find it sticks together no matter what you do.
I used to use minced dried garlic. It keeps like forever and it works well in cooked dishes. I've not seen it offered for sale anywhere around here.

A lot of people are saying the jarred is not safe or healthy. But what if you make your own?
"HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN JARRED MINCED GARLIC
I love making my own ingredients. Things that you usually purchase at the grocery store I like to try making my own. I call it 'cooking DIY'. Sometimes it works, sometimes it really doesn't! I recently discovered that it was possible to make your own jarred minced garlic. After reading the very short list of ingredients on a few bottles at the grocery store I realized how easy it would be! Most of them contain garlic, water, and citric acid, with maybe some olive oil in there. That's it."

It takes less than a minute to mince fresh garlic. Why bottle it

It takes less than a minute to mince fresh garlic. Why bottle itSince I first posted I learned a few things about garlic.
What makes it special, health wise only applies to fresh garlic. It's expensive if you buy it by the head. The outside cloves are big but about a third of it is not usable. You can freeze it. So the most cost effective way that is also easy to cook with or chop is a 3 lb bag for $8 at Sams. I can just take it out of the freezer as I need it.
I buy meat in bulk and freeze it, ginger root and bread too.

You can get fresh garlic already peeled at the farmers market Thursday mornings at SS.
