After I fired Century Link 10 days ago-a Century Link tech just rang my front door bell--I told him we no longer use CL, He told me there is a new CEO @ CL and he has reduced the work force by 50%-that why response time for assistance is what it is -my internet & TV went out on 6-20, was told the earliest a tech could get to me was toady--got all new service with X-finity on 6-24

Word to the wise--think twice before going with CL or renewing any service with them

They must have started in the billing dept because that is where we had the most problems.

Should have happened a long time ago. They can't compete with the big boys with their slow internet speed.

Slow internet speed? I believe you can get 1 gigabit per second with fiber to the house with CenturyLink.

I've had CL for about 8 mos. internet only and never had a problem and I get 80mbps for $45 on auto pay for LIFE.. I hated that with comcast I had to negotiate with them every 6 mos. so my bill did not double

Century Link was years behind the other carriers in getting to 1 gb, they still don't even have it in a lot of major cities. Thusly they will be years behind in reaching 2 gb, 3 gb and so on.
They also charge much more for 1gb than I've been paying for 4 years for mine.

LOL. I personally know 5 people who dropped Comcast (Xfinity) and switched to CenturyLink within the last 4 months. It was pretty much a no-brainer for all of them. I have had CenturyLink for over 4 years; no issues, always reliable.

That's funny. Capabilities vary depending by region. I am sure you can cherry pick some situation to confirm your theory. And you have a requirement for 2 or 3 gigabits per second? Unlike many people, I only pay for what I require.

I had Cl for 6 + years till this incident-we don't want or use smart phones-so when our internet & TV went down-we had to drag out an old satellite radio & for some reason it worked and we were able to connect to our Bose radio

If haven't had any problems with CL--consider yourself lucky--we are now paying $70./ month more with X-finity-four boxes, internet and every possible TV station

For us reliability is key

I don't consider myself lucky. I have had broadband internet access for over 20 years and I have never seen an outage that lasted for more than one day, and that was a cable cut by a construction worker that took a day to repair. With CenturyLink, I have never seen an outage that lasted for more than a few hours in over 4 years. You were just unlucky and your experience is certainly not typical. I fail to see the purpose in bad mouthing a vendor, particularly one that has been nearly 100% reliable for the folks that I know who use them. By the way, your costs will increase dramatically in one year.

Comcast has the worst customer service of any large company in the country. Not just my opinion but from a nationwide survey.

In TV we have few alternatives-Centurylink is dumping prism--their only TV will be Direct TV--if you want a Dish-go for it

My take all these service providers are holding up customers without guns doesn’t matter whether it’s Comcast, Cox Communications, VZ Fios or any of the others. We’re just becoming seasonal residents but in the North East where I’m from we changed service from VZ Fios to Cox Communications and save $60 per month. When the Cox 2 year agreement ends in 2019, I’m sure they’ll raise the price and I’ll head back to Fios as a new customer and avoid a spike in pricing from Cox.

Century link just gave me their new promotion of $45 per month for life, (at 10 mb). Could get 100 mbs for $55 per month. I took the $45 deal, as I don't need excessive speed for what I do.

I've had very few problems with them and they seem to give deals every so often. I also don't want to change out my equipment but that's me.

I don't have phone service with them because their phone package stinks! IMHO

I'd like to get rid of both CL AND Comcast. Then we could have Spectrum. Of course, heard good and bad about them too but mostly good. And they charge way less than the other two. And no contract!

Purchased new modem from Xfinity (Comcast) on Friday ... scheduled installation for today (Sunday) between 10:00 am-noon. NO SHOW! Phoned customer service and was told they were unable to locate the technician but a supervisor would call me back at 1:00 p.m. - It is now 3:25 p.m......Still waiting... UPDATE: 3:35 p.m....techie called to say our service call just popped up on his screen and he would be right over. We cancelled our service call and will be returning the modem to Xfinity (Comcast) next week.

word to the wise, don't listen to Larry the cable guy who knocks on your door.

CenturyLink's annual revenues have grown from $281 million in 1991 to approximately $24 billion, on a pro forma basis, in 2017 and total assets have increased from nearly $765 million in 1991 to over $75 billion at year end 2017. It's a remarkable track record.

CenturyLink layoffs will impact about 1,000 employees or roughly 2 percent of the telecom giant’s workforce, the company has confirmed. The cuts come as CenturyLink strives to invest for growth, integrate the Level 3 acquisition, and pay a massive dividend that currently yields more than 11 percent annually to shareholders.

sell your CL stock guys and gals, Cable guy has spoken!

I have already covered my loss-, thru dividends received over time, but have not brought back my cost average--just started dividend reinvestment 2 qtrs ago

People who live in The Villages tend to make good decisions about their money. In fact there are many billionaires who live in The Villages, but no one would know by their home or their habits. You can sit down at the square next to a retired CEO of a large company and a gal who worked two jobs for a good part of her life. I love that. I love it here.

The Villages has the best credit rating in the entire country. A large percentage paid cash for their homes and their good money habits follow them here.

The Villages has the best credit score in the country, says study | Blogs (https://www.orlandoweekly.com/Blogs/archives/2016/01/15/the-villages-has-the-best-credit-score-in-the-country-says-study)

P.S. The worst credit rating in the country was Camden, New Jersey. I wonder why.

There are approximately 44 billionaires in FL (by one source anyway). I would not be surprised if there were a few billionaires in The Villages (excluding the Developer) but "many" doesn't sound quite right. I do agree that it is hard to tell who has substantial funds. It is easier to tell who doesn't have substantial funds - those who talk about money and how much they spend usually don't.

Other than the entire 'developer family' combined to make 'one billionaire'...I very seriously doubt there's a single other one here.

It makes zero sense for a billionaire to live in TV other than the owners. We do not have a country club, gated community or homes that they would live in. top shelf restaurants or good shopping.

There may be one billionaire in TV-but there may lots of people in TV in the 5-20 Million $ range, if not why would they build million $ premier homes

Huge difference between a millionaire and a billionaire. There are are definitely many people here worth more than a million dollars.

However; there is a big difference between a person worth several million $ and a person with a six figure pension--one has a budget and the other doesn't

I gave up the six figure pension , and socked away enough $ to do whatever we wanted to do--the bitch was 14 years without a vacation and lots of sleepless nights- but retiring @ 53 made it worth while
