First of all, let me say a couple of weeks ago, the DS was not delivered. So I called and the CSR informed me I would have my paper shortly. Two hours later, I called again and the CSR was huffy and said I was number 247 slated for delivery, What happened to right away?

Today's paper was delivered as a wet rag, totally soaked and unreadable. So I called again! I was put into the queue. "All of our operators are busy with other callers and will be answered in the order it was received".

After 15 minutes, I got thru and asked for circulation. Click, I was disconnected. I guess I went to the back of the line. LOL

I called again and after another 15 minutes, I asked for circulation. Click, I was disconnected again. This time, not as funny.

I realized there was a problem when I didn't get through right away. I realized they were being inundated with calls but being disconnected twice!!! Geeeeeeezzzzzeeeeee!

I had finished breakfast and decided I would go for my walk. A half hour into my walk, I called again and was put on hold for several minutes. When I got to circulation, I was informed there would be no more deliveries today. CSR then gave me credit for today's paper.

I'm not one to give in easily so I walked to the mailbox to buy a paper and it was empty.

I realize it rained very hard this morning but it seems their present method of covering the paper leaves a lot to be desire. I had received several copies that were wet with very little rain. I would gladly paid a little more to seal the paper properly.

Nothing and no one in life is perfect but it seems to leaves a little bit to be desired. IMHO

BTW - My rant doesn't make me feel any better but I was wondering how people had this problem this morning?

Normally our paper comes very early in the morning. I’m guessing around 4am. This morning I saw the guy throw the paper on our driveway at 7am. Since it was a break in the rain, I got it before the two layers of plastic bags got wet.

I feel your pain but the times, they are a’changin’.

I’m ready to unsubscribe. Far, far too much advertising and far too little content.

Since I’m not in the market for a home, I get through it most of the time in 10 minutes or less.

I called them at 7:15 this morning and they told me they are not going to re-deliver it and would credit my account. Usually they re-deliver if you call early as I did, don't know what's going on.

...considering the lack of 'news' and content in ALL sections of the Sun the last couple months - you have missed nothing. Not complainin', just a fact. They must have furloughed a LOT of the staff.

Prior to today, I have had SUPERB delivery service.

Today was different. The paper was on my lawn - not even close to my driveway. It had one wrapper and the paper was very wet. Normally, if there is even the slightest chance of rain, the paper is double-wrapped.

I chalked it up to there being a substitute delivery person, but maybe some else was going on.

hmmm, they are usually very prompt and quick to redeliver if a mistake is made. Perhaps they are short staffed due to Covid 19. Sounds like the same reason the golf courses need to run on shortened hours, short staffed.

I think a bag that is sealed would be preferable. IMHO

I woke this morning at 5 AM and it was coming down in buckets. Thunder and lightning galore!!! Lets just I had other things on my mind than to run out and salvage a 17 cent newspaper. LOL

I always look forward to reading "news" that is 24 hours old. :) That being said we get it for the local ads and haven't missed a copy yet. Some have been wet over the 3+ years but when you get 3/4" of rain in an hour or two (which is what we measured at our address today between 5-7AM)) that could happen. You don't REALLY expect them to specially wrap it in waterproof bags or send a special delivery copy out do you? Ours gets delivered around 3:30 AM so it wasn't raining then and it is double bagged when it is delivered while it is raining.

Our delivery is normally very good, today no paper. As I walked our neighborhood in DeSoto I saw several newspapers laying in the street. Not normal at all, so maybe something happened today. Called and got a credit.

I think a bag that is sealed would be preferable. IMHO

The cost alone for (approx. 50,000 daily papers) special plastic bags that are waterproof will cost much more than the present bags cost. That will add more than a few $ to the yearly subscription, which, in turn will cause many to complain about that.

Then, if they do use such an expensive plastic bag and then on a very rainy day such as today, the delivery person throws it out the window and the fancy new plastic bag happens to tear upon landing on your driveway and it would still float away.

Yes, this morning there were papers floating down the street.

Some good news, an island within the bad:

1. Got our paper on Friday before the rain hit. I was awakened by the lightning before 4:30am, so I ventured out to get the paper. Dry, and double bagged.

2. Sometimes the wind is pretty gusty, and the plastic-bagged paper blows of the driveway. I'll sometimes find my paper or the neighbor's on the grass or on the street. On Friday, my neighbor's paper was blown into the neighbor's yard two houses away.

It would be great if the entire paper was available online like others in the US. I've had that discussion with the management team of the Daily Sun. The technology exists.

All that said, thanks to the delivery people, and the rest of the staff at the Daily Sun for the good service I've experienced. At the price with an annual subscription is very low cost. My NYTimes and WSJ subs are very expensive in comparison, and only online.

I've found that if I carefully separate the sheets of wet newspaper then lay them out, that they will dry to a readable condition in less than a hour. Yes, it should not occur. But in light of everything else that happening, I welcome at least one problem I can easily solve. It is not as if my calendar is full of more urgent activities at the present moment.

If this continues, the Villages Sun could deliver the paper in a snack-size ziptop baggie. Simply delete all the 1/2 & full page ads -esp the car dealers & real estate ones, then print actual "news" in one small section, and fold to fit the baggie.

heads up...you really didn't need to say that you're not one to give up easily
...that was pretty obvious

DS is short handed...the delivery people work all night long and are asleep by 7am...most likely after doing some OT filling in for others now....the rain came down in buckets

ya might wanna think about cutting them just a little slack

interesting that the lack of a newspaper being delivered to your home as usual utterly consumed your whole morning....glad I never had to share a fox hole with you

I guess I'm lucky, in 9 years we've only had the paper missed once and I went to the mail box and bought one because I didn't want to wait for a new delivery. Yesterday when I heard the thunder at 4:15am I woke up and looked and the paper was in the driveway, so I went out and got it. They are always doubled bagged, and never have a problem with them being wet.

Sounds like it is an issue with the delivery person. I’ve been here 5 1/2 years and have had the paper not delivered once. Double bagged if there’s even a hint of rain, and carefully thrown to opposite side of driveway if delivered when irrigation system is on. The few times I have called customer service to let them know I will be away for a short period of time they couldn’t be nicer - or more efficient. Never missed correct day to stop and start. The paper is full of stuff I’m not in the market for (today) but given the price and customer service, I will never stop supporting it or our delivery person. The DS office isn’t immune to the changes brought on by this pandemic and perhaps they should be given a little slack!

When we didn’t get a paper I always called them & told them to extend my subscription & they would honor it, & yes it got extended because I always knew when my subscription up, 6 months or 1 yr. Now where we live hardly nobody get paper because to get a 1 yr. subscription 7 days a week it cost $515. for 5 days it cost $300.+ a yr. Also where we live there’s 3 million + people. That’s ridiculous! I feel for you, you pay to get a paper & you expect to get it just like everyone else! So cancel the paper or bite the bit.

The other day our paper was laying in the middle of the road. Others were in the driveway so wondering if the delivery guy decided suddenly to speed up his route,

Have noticed content is almost zero, used to take about 20 minutes to read now less than 10.

If we do not see improvement in the paper after this is over we will become a former customer.

I think we all develop a kind of routine in these times to maintain sanity. Absence of OP’s newspaper disrupted that routine.

The newspaper issue is just a symptom of a greater sense of loss we all feel. OP is a very reasonable poster as most are. He needed to vent, we all do, and is entitled to do so. No snarkiest or arrogance. He just gave the facts with a smidge of frustration thrown in.

Let’s all give each other a break. Namaste.
