Does anyone know where my husband & I can get free or low-cost masks to wear in public? Both of us have been "yelled at" for not having one. We do not have a sewing machine & we are not anyone special (like health-care workers or first responders).
Thanks.

Try a bandana, or look online. End of April seems kind of late to be asking.

Search the classified portion of this site, there is a woman selling very nice masks for $3 each we have purchased 8 for our use, very satisfied. There are a few ads, hers is the only one for this price, she has ordering info in the ad.

It's obvious that up until now you haven't felt a need to wear a mask. I would not let others "yelling" at you intimidate your decision. I do not own a mask nor plan on owning one. What I have observed on many others are more of a fashion statement than a medical device. Anyone who feels comfort in wearing a mask of any type should continue to do so; regardless their effectiveness'. I will continue in my beliefs and take the same precaution that I take during any flu season and a mask and stay at home imprisonment are not included.

I hope you are in a minority of one. It is attitudes like yours that has led to over 1 million cases in the US.
Actually it is precisely this attitude that will lead to a level of herd immunity which will eventually kill this virus. Our continued existence of living "in a bubble" -- (and no reference to TV lifestyle) -- will result in a longer lifespan for the virus. Learned epidemiologists are espousing this philosophy -- just not getting the media play they deserve. Yes -- if you have a compromised immune system, by all means, isolate until this virus runs its course.

If you buy a mask, chances are that it is "made in China". I'd think twice before sticking one of those over my face. I wore a mask today for the first time only because I was at the doctor's office.
I'm one of those who believes in "herd immunity" and rejects "the new normal". It should be called "the new ABNORMAL'.:boom:

So you do not believe in social distancing either? I guess you want to get COVID and take your chances? My next question to you is ... do you not care that you could carry the virus and give it to others?

Shopping, or on public transport? Yes I would wear one.
Walking in open spaces for exercise? No. There is no point if social distancing is observed, which I definitely do.
But 'Face Mask Shaming' is wrong wherever it occurs.

You can easily make one if he has an extra pair of socks!!.. Google it..make mask out of socks..been all over Facebook..you cut the toes off and the ankles off..then on the ends of the piece cut in about 1/2 inch or so and cut down a couple inches..use those cut ends to go around your ears

I don't know prime masks, you must referring to Amazon. The link and info I provided and you quoted was a place on eBay and they say same day shipping and prices are very good when I see what others are asking. Check their feedback on other mask buyers and it's excellent. They also had so far 454 mask sales, so they have the product. I've bought from eBay since 2004 over 900 times and never a problem. Most provide free shipping, just always remember to check the feedback of the seller. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from this seller and if you use Paypal, it's guaranteed by Paypal and also your credit card company.

Go to the $1 store and buy an bandana and Elastic hair ties. Then go online and pull up directions to make a mask from a bandana. It’s easy and you don’t need a sewing machine . Cost $2 for each mask and they are washable and can make many different ones to go with your outfits

If you buy the blue shop paper towels and put them inside your cloth mask it gives you as much protection as an N95 mask. I take one towel fold it in thirds and cut in half so it fits right inside your cloth mask.

Wearing a mask should of been mandatory from the get-go. Its not for your protection, but protects others from you. Until people understand that, its just going to keep spreading. We would probably be able to get back to some kind of normalcy if EVERYONE WORE A MASK!!!! And as far as rights? Well you have the right to drink, but not to drink and drive, free speech, but not shout out bomb , etc. Laws are made to protect people, and this should be one of them at the current time.(not talking about arrests, but fines.)

how about a head scarf...bandana? if you don't have that, you can go on-line and order a couple of yards of cheap cotton fabric, the pattern is not an issue, from JoAnns. or call JoAnns and ask if you can buy a couple of yards of inexpensive cotton fabric for this purpose. You will need to cut squares that are large enough to cover your mouth and nose and to tie behind head. This is a minimalist face mask to be sure, but better than nothing if you were to sneeze after having contracted the virus but not yet symptomatic.

You can now buy masks at Publix. They're on an end cap near the pharmacy. There's a choice of two black cloth reuseable washable masks for $3.99 and single washable masks in colorful cloth patterns (I don't know how much those are) and a 10-pack of the blue-front fiber-cloth masks (again - I don't know how much those are).
Availability depends on when you go, compared to when it gets delivered. But there were plenty of the colorful ones when I left at closing time today.
