I am trying to find out how many Villagers we have lost from the virus to date.
All I remember is two from when the outbreak started and the total for Sumter County stands at 21.
Hopefully the number has not changed.

I don't know how many were Villagers, specifically but, the Villages is in the corners of three different counties - not just Sumter. Marion and Lake county have parts of the Villages in them as well.
In the three counties, a total of 88 people are dead now, from COVID-19. That's 88 people who have spread their virus to everyone they were in contact with, within 3 weeks of their deaths. That means - for three weeks before they were dead - they spread that virus to others. And then they died.
You can keep track of it here: Experience (https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/7572b118dc3c48d885d1c643c195314e/)
It is more accurate and up to date than the one that comes directly from the state health department, because it includes data that the state health department has chosen not to publicize.

There is significant evidence that Florida DOH is "cooking the books". So, it is very difficult to know how many have actually died. Sadly, one side believes the books are being cooked to inflate the numbers, the other believes the numbers are being cooked to reduce the numbers.
However, the scientist that was hired to collect and disseminate the information was fired for "refusing to reduce the numbers", and they replaced her with someone else. Then magically we had fewer cases and fewer deaths.

The gov should stop paying for reported covid deaths then maybe there would be a more accurate account.

I wont disagree with your statements, in general. But yesterday i had a conversation with a clerk in one of the stores here. Her brother, who has severe asthma, got covid and it looked like he wasnt going to survive. Fortunately, he pulled through. His wife tested positive but asymptotic. Their son tested negative. A false negative on the test? Perhaps. But maybe it isnt as contagious as they claim.

You basing that your comment that "maybe it isnt as contagious as they claim" because "only" 2 out of 3 family members got it? Sounds like 66 2/3% infection rate. ;)

Lake county has had the most deaths. It is the largest of the three counties and only a very small part of The Villages is in Lake County.
I don't recall where, but I've seen the number of cases and deaths for all three and The Villages. Most of the recent deaths have been in long term care facilities and the prison.
With a combined population of 865,000 it seems that the number of cases, 6787 and number of deaths, 88 is extremely low Especially given the average age of the people.
The number of cases is .7% (less that one percent) of the population and the number of deaths is almost immeasurable.
It seems to me that we are doing the right things.

Or people may react to it differently ..contagious is contagious..symptoms are symptoms depending on your health..
wear a mask, wash & sanitize your hands, don’t touch your face. Stay away from the compromised..I’d hate to be the asymptomatic one to give it to my parents..as I am their life line ..

I question those claims too. Seems many more people would be infected if it was as contagious as some claim.

Thank You! So many people think The Villages makes up all of Sumter county so when they see numbers it’s the villages. They don’t pay attention and we have a prison here and about 300 I think tested positive there inmates and employees! Sumter county has other people living here besides us Villagers!

Approx. 52,000 Villager residents in Sumter Co. There have been 8 or 9 reported deaths attributed to the virus. The death to positive tests is low. There is all kinds of testing areas in and around the Villages. The tests performed have been ramped up and hundreds or even thousands have been tested, just in the Villages area. So, considering the amount of tests and that only positives have been reported, the death ratio is very low.
It is hard to find data on just the Villages area when it comes to deaths, but the media sure enjoys putting out sensational headlines about how COVID 19 is "exploding, surging, overwhelming, etc." the Villages. I would like to see stats on the ratio of positive tests to negative tests. I would also like to see the stats on how many are hospitalized due solely to the virus. I bet there will be someone on here that will produce that information.
If you figure just the percentage of deaths to population of just the Sumter co. portion of the Villages it would be something like 8 or 9 divided by Approx. 52,000 residents (give or take a hundred or so). I believe that comes out to less than 2 one hundredths of a percent, if I am not wrong.

I think it is impossible to tell with the information available to us. Many have died, but did they die from Covid-19 or did they die from something else but had the virus? Neither side trusts the government's numbers.

The link I posted above yours directs you to the COVID-19 dashboard developed by that very scientist. It is similar to the official one but contains as much of the data as she is able to gather from the hospitals AND the CDC AND individual city sources, and not just selected snippets culled and tossed out of context on the page like the "official" one does.
That's why I linked this one. It's more complete, more detailed, more accurate, contains context which makes it easier to understand.

The virus has only existed since March. So that's 4 months. During half of it, there were snowbirders here. The snowbirders have since returned to their winter homes.
That "combined population" - does it include snowbirders who aren't even in the state anymore?

Remember, as of last week Trump is not allowing hospitals to report to the CDC. Everything is being controlled by the Feds........so just wear your mask and do what you can to stay safe!.
Trump administration orders hospitals to bypass CDC in reporting COVID data - CBS News (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/coronavirus-data-cdc-hospitals-trump-administration/)
LOL The CDC is a federal agency. The numbers now go direct to HHS also a federal agency, which oversees the CDC. This was done to streamline data collection. The CDC is just an aggregator of State data. All states have their own websites where the data can be accessed by the public.

Fake news. The lady who was fired is not a scientist. She was fired for not following directions of the actual scientists. She also recanted her data manipulation story in an email.
Helen Aguirre Ferré, wrote in an email to reporters after the news conference that Jones “exhibited a repeated course of insubordination during her time with the Department, including her unilateral decisions to modify the Department’s COVID-19 dashboard without input or approval from the epidemiological team or her supervisors.”
Ferré's email included the email that DeSantis referenced. Sent Saturday, Jones told her supervisor that her comments about the employees replacing her had been misconstrued.
“What I meant when I said I don’t expect the same level of accessibility is that they are busy and can’t answer every single email they get right away,” Jones wrote to her supervisor. “Is this one of those stupid things I shouldn't have said?”
This lady has a criminal record and is under active investigation for cyber stalking.

Data of cases is available by zip code which while not exact does give very good approximation of TV cases. The other local website that shall not be named gives a daily report of cases including cases specifically in TV.
The state of florida covid dashboard can also be searched by zip code for case numbers. Experience (https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/96dd742462124fa0b38ddedb9b25e429) use the zip code tab at the bottom left of the page
You might also wish to look at the metrics tab. Change the county to Sumter and you will see that the % of Covid tests that are positive for the last full week was 8.9% whereas it was less than 1% for the earliest week still shown, 6 weeks ago.
I cannot find death by zip code. Death by county is available.

Lovell VA hospital . Speaking with my Doctor there , she said “ I don’t know of anyone on staff that didn’t contract Covid 19 “ . My neighbor a cook county Sheriff said “ 4 sheriff’s died of Covid 19 “ . This was not published in any media reports that I can recall . Maybe
check with your VA clinic , private clinic , hospital , nursing home or county jail , as they are required to provide any contracted diseases or deaths , to the public , by law , if your interested in that .

Either, "doing the right thing" or it is in the early innings of CV and the hot spots are in the cities, like Miami and Houston, where there are freezer trucks. Will it come here strongly? There is a long way to go before that is known. Things may NOT look so rosy in the spring, 2021. Also recent research suggests that actual cases are 10 times the reported cases in the US!

Look at The Villages News, they tell more the the Villages newspaper
And they exaggerate, embellish and outright lie in such a manner as to make The Villages look worse than the real data shows. They say the villages and then give stats for the WHOLE area.

Giving stats on how many tested positive tells us little. The only way that would matter is if EVERYONE was tested.
Hospitalizations matter
Deaths matter
And we don't have that information. If anyone can find it, I am interested in seeing it. I am tired of gloom and doom based on test results only. Test results do not show a trend in virus life or strength when there is only a handful of folks tested.

Exactly! You can say "thousands" are infected and hundreds have died, but when it comes to the Villages, lets be truthful. I still have not found anywhere that says more than 8 or 9 have died of the virus in the Villages portion of Sumter Co. I do not care how many show positive on the tests, when there are no deaths related to the high infection rate.
Guess I am just not one to panic and get hysterical. First off, if you are being careful and using common sense, there is no reason to expect the worst. If masks help prevent you from catching it, then wear a mask. If gloves keep you from getting it on your hands then wear gloves and still wash your hands. keep your hands away from your face, period. If you do everything you can and you still get it, at least you know you did what you could. Being infected does not mean you are going to die. Very few die compared to those that test positive and the ones that are infected that have not been tested.

************** is on line and NOT related to the Daily Sun or the developer. It is also available on Facebook, Twitter, and email.
Today it reported 113 residents and staff members at long term care facilities tested positive for COVID-19. Publix in Spanish Plaines on Bella Cruz Drive announced they have one employee who tested positive for COVID-19. Publix has previously announced that 3 other employees
have tested positive. Those 3 work in different stores: one in Brownwood, one in Southern Trace, one in La Plaza Grande on Bichara Boulevard. They also announced seven (7) other employees in stores outside the Villages.
************** reported earlier today that the total deaths from Sumter County was 22. I did not see any specific numbers for The Villages.

Seems to me, that if you eliminate the two prisons, the Care Homes, and surrounding areas outside the bubble, TV. as a specific area, must have been doing something right, given the daily "OMG's" on TOTV. regarding the perceived failings of a large portion of the population.
