I am wondering anecdotally, what percentage of Villagers are grandparents and what percentage of grandparents get visits from their grandchildren?

I get how one might mention that their grandkids come down every year or never, but what I am really after is what do you think is the percentage is as best as you can tell.

Thank you,

-Just curious

I would guess 86.895% +- .1% are grandparents and 84.6432% +- .21% of those get visits. ;) The being said, we are and about 2x a year and the fact they are both college aged teenagers makes them prefer to be home with their friends where pot has just been legalized (not saying they use it but just an anecdotal guess).

We have 5......and our kids and grandkids will start coming down after we get the vaccine and the kids get theirs. Zoom works fine, facetime works fine and the phone works fine.

If you go to the squares at Christmas time or in the summertime, you'll think it's 100%. That's why in normal times, during the summer they have camp for grandchildren right here in TV. You can read about all their exploits in the newspaper when it happens. Wait until next summer.

You mean younger grandchildren.:D Many grandchildren are way above "Camp Villages" age.

That sums it up for us too. They miss us and we gather by zoom once a week. They are both busy young executives. One is recovering right now from Covid-19. He was able to work from home during his illness. They both are aware of the risk of Covid at our age but come down three or four times a year, usually.

Everyone I know who has grandchildren see them frequently. We waited to move here until ours were both in College. We lived close to them as they were growing up and we all enjoyed that and they know us well and we know them well.

We have eleven grands, scattered across the US, from age 4 to college students. They come on average of twice a year. The older ones love playing golf, basketball, and driving the golf cart. The young ones love the pools and bocce. Some try to come while others are here, to see cousins that live far away. We rent a house close by and they all eat at our house. We love hearing their laughter and seeing them enjoy the sunshine. They all love dancing at the squares, especially the younger ones.

No Grandchildren yet. Our Daughter & Her Husband come down at least once a year and bring our Grand Puppy though

Hard to say. Maybe less than 50% visit. Just feels like more cuz the little ones are outside all over the place playing, going for golf cart rides, running around, playing tennis, pickleball, basketball, bocce, shuffleboard, climbing on the outdoor exercise equipment, fishing, and playing in the pools. You know, having a blast. Pre covid most kids were here during school holidays and in the summer. I have noticed a lot of kids around since Thanksgiving.

I suspect that most Villagers are grandparents and many (including me) encourage grandkids to visit. That being said ... the best time to have young grandchildren (2-13) visit is during the summer so they can participate in Summer Camp if you’d like them too. Lots of things for kids to do here in the summer - and they make new friends, too.

Our teenager grandchildren were here and loved every part of the Villages. They didn’t want to go home. They love sports so we were busy, doing something outdoors, everyday. The residents were so kind to them. They taught them to play beach tennis. They even had a picture of them playing in the Daily Sun. If you are a non active resident have the grandchildren stay home. We had a great time but we organized our own activities. They didn’t get time to do it all. They’ll be back. Life’s what you make it.

Our grandkids were just here this past week. We did Disney and had fun around here too. Fishing, golfing, Air-Boating, biking, swimming. I love that their parents subscribe to the belief of Faith over Fear. Get out and live people!

When we first moved here in 2009 my Granddaughter was here every school Holiday. Then as she got older it was summertime. Now she lives down here and see her quite often. Before I get slammed I knew & know the rules and we did & do follow them. Now they don't pertain to her!

“ Have the grandchildren stay home”. And who voted president of grandchildren’s rules?

If the people living here are non-active, and don't plan on being active during the visits from the grands, then the grands will not be able to enjoy the amenities that makes it so much fun for kids. Children aren't allowed to enjoy the amenities without residents - unless the kids' parents are here with guest passes.

Children are not allowed to use the amenities unattended by adults.

Back on topic - I can't guess with any measure of accuracy. The town squares during X-mas season is no way to measure, since the town squares are open to the public and many families who live in the area come to enjoy it as well. So many of those kids aren't grandkids of Villagers. They're just local families.

I saw more kids than usual during this past "winter holiday season" but it didn't seem unmanageable at all. I sometimes see kids playing basketball or running around the softball field without any adults present, so I think a reminder needs to go out prior to every major school holiday to residents, that guests are not permitted to use the amenities without a guest pass or a resident actually present at the activity.

Other times during the year I don't really see a lot of kids at all. Several of my neighbors have grandkids who come to visit, sometimes for a few days. They seem to be pretty well-behaved and respectful of the neighborhood.

From my very limited perspective, I'd say it's less than 5% at any given moment, possibly as much as 5% during the winter break.

I would say 50% but probably plus or minus 50%.

No idea how one would tell.

Our two oldest grandkids came here for two weeks in December with parents and we had a wonderful time.

Lots of stuff we could not do but than again lots to do and they cannot wait to come back.

Trick is to keep them busy doing things.

I think I'm one of the rare ones without kids or grandkids, but I sure enjoy seeing the young ones in the squares at night.

Grandkids can come whenever but rules say no more then 30 days total a year. No one in my area counts how often the kids come. I feel sorry for you have a neighbor who would count.

Wow sad that anyone would think they are in charge of counting how many days each child has been here.

Where'd you see THAT rule "30 days TOTAL a year." Maybe 30 days in a ROW ?? Sounds like you would need the mysterious and legendary 2 ladies in a golf cart with their clipboard (and now cameras) keeping track. :D

It's most likely your neighbors are keeping track of what going on in every neighborhood has them.

That you assume that all the children and adults who have gotten sick and the many who died had no faith

Agreed. Like I said - the adult with the guest pass or the resident have to be *present.* They have to actually be there, at whatever activity the kid is involved in. They have to be at the pool, not in it. They have to be at the baseball diamond, but don't have to play. They have to be at the shuffleboard court, but they can sit on a bench and watch. As long as they're there, and the specific activity doesn't have stricter age restrictions, it's all good.

(The archery range prohibits anyone under 13, I believe. Even with a resident. And neighborhood adult pools prohibit anyone under 30).

You need to add a financial filter. Grandparents who buy the tickets closer to 95 if no money, drops off dramatically.
