Has anyone opened their new bill and saw that the equipment rentals, taxes and fees have gone up on Comcast? It is so frustrating to have a contract for two years and still your bill keeps going up.
We live in a area where we don't have many options.

We dumped Comcast a couple of years ago and it was one of the best things I've done.

We went to youtube.tv because it had all the channels we liked , plus ESPN and HD with no extra charge.

I don't think equipment rental charges can increase during the 2 year agreement.

The cost of their service is a contract rate but not the BS fees and box rentals. I told them I'm going back to Spectrum when my contract is over 4 months from now. It's a shame as I do like Comcast and never had any problems with their service, I have the full TV package, land line, and internet.

I got an email from comcast telling me I was getting a $10 one time rebate on my next bill. They had recovered fees from sports broadcasting that they had been charged during the pandemic lock down. Since sports stopped they sought to get back some of that money. When I got my bill it was only about $3 lower. The increase rental of the cable box and fees and taxes ate up the remainder. What a joke.

I did get a raise in rates Jan 1st but since they save me over $1000.00 a year on cell phone service over the big 3 I am not changing my service.

DTV Reception Maps | Federal Communications Commission (https://www.fcc.gov/media/engineering/dtvmaps) and see if you are in range and what channel. I love my YouTube TV for $65 per month. It has all the channels I ever cared about that I used to get on my cable service (including the local channels). It also includes DVR recording so you can watch everything on your own time. I get to YouTube TV via Firestick which also gives me quick links to Netflix and AmazonPrime which cover all my needs. Oh, and there's no contract with YouTube TV.

I predict that cable and satellite TV services will have gone the way of Blockbuster within five years.

Not sure if this helps you but you can switch to ala carte now for an extra $10 per month. So no contract, cancel when you want and then call back and try to get a new customer discount package. Good for snowbirds.

We had Comcast a few years ago when we were Snowbirds/Sunbirds (we owned but spent five months up north). When we put Comcast on vacation and returned to TV they raised our rates. This was their policy. We turned in our equipment and purchased our service from Brighthouse (now Spectrum). Spectrum keeps raising rates too so we are researching a “better way” too. Internet service is almost a necessity similar to other utilities. Not a fan of regulation but I can see the possibility in the future.

Your service price is locked up for the length of your contract, however they can raise the price on equipment rental anytime, taxes and fees those are governed by the Feds, and Comcast has nothing to do with that. Hey you have the most reliable service, you can purchase the modem and the router yourself at Best Buy and you can save money long term, they don’t tell you that but I own all my equipment

I’ve found that an “angry” phone call works too. A threat to cancel your account always brings the offer of a better deal.

It must be different down here. In our house in MA I hade cables from both COMCAST and Verizon wired from the street to the house. Every 2 years I would get notified of a price increase, regardless of which company we were currently using, call them to try to get a better rate, cancel them, switch to the other company and get a call 2 weeks latter asking if I would come back at the old rate. Too late. This occurred like clock work every 2 years for 30+ years. I got to know the service people. They would laugh and would leave the wires so the changeover would take them 2 minutes.

We had Spectrum up in Wisconsin and I thought they were bad. So we decided to try Comcast down here. Big mistake! The internet is so slow, keeps dropping Wifi/connection off and on all day long. When we signed up for their new customer "package" we were supposed to get 200 channels. What they don't tell you is that they're not 200 different channels. You get the same channels in different formats so you're not really getting 200 different channels. Of course, the ones we watch the most aren't offered in the basic package; you have to pay the higher rate just to get them. We can't wait to switch back to Spectrum when our contract is done. At least their internet was good!

What really ticks me off is when you pay as a loyal customer for years and your prices keep going up but you see special offers for new customers. So what I did for a number of years before I dumped Comcast (most horrible customer service anywhere) was to cancel my service then have my wife call and but the service in her name. Two years later, cancel the agreement and put the service in my name. For a little inconvenience saved a lot of money for a few years.

One trick is to quit the service and then immediately sign up your spouse as "a new customer" since they give discounts to new customers. And in two years, do this trick again.

Our equipment rental went up 4 months into our 2 year contract. I took back 1 box from a spare bedroom. We am considering buying my own Router and taking the Comcast router back! I feel it should be illegal for them to raise the rates during the 2 year contract! We are switching when our term is over.

Thats why I always bought my own router/modem "Arris" instead of renting. And if you keep cable, or go to antenna, like we did in Atlanta, just get the minimum package from comcast. "internet only" or minimum cable and internet. and stream everything else.

I use Century Link, Roku and Hulu. HULU costs me $65/mo and Century Link cost for internet only is $49 plus tax with paperless billing. With HULU live I get all the major networks. I would definitely get your Firebox which is similar to Roku hooked up. Subscribe to HULU or you tube, Fubo or similar and get internet only from Comcast or century link or Spectrum which ever is available in your area and start saving money.

Yup, same here. Now near $200 and we said no way. Discontinuing Comcast TV service at the end of the month and already got my Sling TV up and running. Why do we have to pay for all those channels we don't watch? Comcast needs to offer skinny packages at lower prices or they can not compete.

Still need Comcast internet for about $30 (yes need to setup as a "new" customer) and Sling for $30 more. I think we are all set for two more years.

Comcast has data caps on the Internet usage. If Comcast doesn’t have the data cap yet in your area, the data cap is coming to your area. You can get unlimited Internet if you pay more each month.

There’s a huge reduction in Comcast’s revenue from people dropping cable TV or reducing their cable TV. The data cap is a way that Comcast is trying to make up for the lost revenue by all the streaming.

My big complaint with cable TV is the lack of a la carte programming. If I only watch 4 channels, I don’t want to have to pay for 200 channels I never watch. If a la carte programming existed, most of the cable channels that almost no one watches, would go bankrupt, which is what should happen.

Hi. We went to Century LInk internet - $45 a month with no increase ever.
YoutubeTV did raise their rate to $75 but that was still going to be less than Comcast and had a better offering. So my monthly bill is $120 for net/TV.

Realize they are well aware of what is being offered by the competition. They know around here all the competitors are not very good.

I do know that in other places, retirement places cable is included in common charges.
I would wonder if we could get everyone to agree. OK perhaps in a Village to NEGOTIATE
as a group. If, they lose one customer it does not really matter much. Hundreds on Villagers gained or lost we would find a better deal offered.

An idea. I am not volunteering to do it or get it done. The leader would find it is a full time job. Dealing with complaints. People who do not pay their bill etc.

I do not work for any of the suppliers. Frankly, I am retired. As to data, I expect they want to control people who use far more data than others. ??? Sending, selling photos etc.?????

Re: roof antennas
I would check with the Villages office. I would expect there are different rules depending on the village you are in. I confess I've never seen a home with a roof antenna. Re: Buffalo. We are ex-New Yorkers. Perhaps after 9/11 the quality of what you would get on a roof antenna dropped quite a bit. For computer we used whatever it is called that goes over the phone line. It was sooooo slow that we would be thrown off websites. If, you want a roof antenna you can buy a big one and put it in your attic.
When, we did have a roof antenna and it went down in the snow. I set up our replacement in our attic and it worked fine. I have no idea what is available around here.

It is the same here in some of the Villages, our home is in the southern section and we have both Spectrum and Comcast/Xfinity, I started with Spectrum for 2 years, now Comcast, and after this last increase will be going back to Spectrum. Out of the two I prefer Comcast but don't like their price increases nor do I like Spectrum's price increases. I once called and complained and they told me to select a lower cost package, not the right answer. You would think if one of them would come out with a 100% guarantee that the contract total price would never change they would get a lot more business.

I have Comcast and was paying almost $100.00 a month. By purchasing a Firestick (40.00) or Roku, and downsizing to Comcast's streaming service (35.00) I have learned to save money. The streaming service will give you internet and TV service. Also if you are renting a modem at $5.00 a month, it is cheaper to purchase your own mondem and save that $5.00 a month. Modems run about $60.00 for a good Motorola. Good luck

Has anyone opened their new bill and saw that the equipment rentals, taxes and fees have gone up on Comcast? It is so frustrating to have a contract for two years and still your bill keeps going up.
We live in a area where we don't have many options.

Ours went up $40 after several $5 & $10 raises. Was still in two year contract. Cancelled and told them they had breached the contract and that a one-sided contract was against the law. I went with CenturyLink internet for 49.99 a month for lifetime and MaxTV. Love it.

If you folks don't check out the t-mobile cellular internet access you are missing the boat. They intend to sell a million units this year. There is no contract involved. There is no rent for the modem they send you by 2nd day air. There is no data limit. There are no wires. Get it. Subscribe to youtubet.tv or Hulu and tell Comcast and century link good bye. You don''t need t-mobile cell service. There is no dish involved. There is no ground connection. It's one little tube sitting somewhere in your house providing wifi internet. Enough speed for everything and when 5G starts here it will be like a lightning bolt.
Youtube.tv has all the local channels, national channels, espn, golf, etc...:bigbow: There is no contract!

We dumped Comcast a couple of years ago and it was one of the best things I've done.

We went to youtube.tv because it had all the channels we liked , plus ESPN and HD with no extra charge.

If I drop down to internet only, can I still get YouTube.tv?

Thank you

What did they say when you called them and asked about the increase?

Yes they have raised again. I have dealt with Comcast now for 30 years. They are the best. My television never goes out. Even during hurricanes. I have four televisions in the house and they all produce great pictures. I am not going to any junk providers. I’m too old to worry about money. I want to hear from all the cheapo’s 😂

Why would I tell CenturyLink goodbye? Why would I care if there is a ground connection? Why would I care how many unit they plan on selling this year? I have my own router. I don't have a contract. There are no data limits. I have had CenturyLink, internet only and streaming content or OTA, for nearly 7 years (fiber-to-the house) and the price is fixed at $45 per month with one price for life. Nearly 100% uptime. I am pretty sure I haven't "missed any boat". I have had broadband for over 20 years and was an early adopter of 802.11b Wi-Fi over 20 years ago. Folks should find the most cost effective broadband for their area. To suggest that T-Mobile is the only way to go is disingenuous.

You have options.
1. Shut it off
2. Get a streaming box
3. There must another cable company in your area.
4. Get a dish

We live in a area where we don't have many options.

I was also very frustrated by raised prices and called them. I nicely said if we couldn't get our prices down without losing any services, I would have to change services (you can always threaten with Roku or Fire stick), anyway, they said they are always running specials and they could offer me a special for this year and then I could call back to see what specials they were running a month before this special was due to expire. I lowered our bill by almost $40. I would definitely call and ask about a raise while under contract.

That's if you have good T-mobilr coversge (signal). In my house it's (T-Mo & AT&T) barely usable PLUS the network latency is usually terrible on cell service meaning that the delay between send & receive can often be annoying. If it works for you at your location that's great. You can get 400Mb service from Comcrap/Xfinity for 45$ a month. You likely won't see REAL 5G here in T.V. in your lifetime. Maybe something they call 5G like they first did with 2G, 3G, 4G & LTE but really isn't. T-Mobile (and their previous companies) were notorious for that. Plus I doubt they'll give anyome a "5G home Internet" device without a huge top charge because people will be sucking up bandwidth.

Our bill went up the same way. Just about everything that wasn't a service (TV, Internet, Phone) was raised. Last time this happened, I called Comcast and was told that the only things guaranteed to not go up during your contract period were the services, everything else is fair game to them.

I went tp Marion Market about a year ago now, and purchased all access tv from a vendor. You have to buy a small box for each tv, or you can move it from tv to tv. The initial cost is about $500.00, but there is nothing you cannot stream from here, and other countries around the world. That also includes most all the other streaming channels like Netflix, U-Tube , Amazon. All the new movies that come out in the theatres, just a day or two after the theaters get them. All the sports channels, I mean all the sports channels. I watch the news daily from Minneapolis, MN, the Vikings, Twins, all Gopher sports. And the price is only $37.50 per month. You do have to gave the internet, which most people have. Or you can call Alan at (352-568-5520) Tell him Vern sent you.

I've seen some of those "first run" movies (when they were only in theaters, not pirated off Netflix etc) and the PQ was horrendous on many of them plus it wasn't fun watching tall hairdo's in front of the recording cam popping up and down on the screen. The ones stolen off online services were fine but ones that were (in the "old days") only in theaters were horrible.

Old news. Comcast announced new rates 3 mos. Ago

Enclosed with a Comcast bill a few months ago was a price increase list starting January 1, 2021.SOME items had a price increase including rental equipment and services. Comcast has price increases once or twice a year.It doesn’t matter if you have a 2 year agreement you will pay the increase. If you cancel cable tv and phone but need internet only it seems Comcast has the ability to OVERCHARGE you for the internet service only. How many villagers pay full monthly prices for lawn cutting 3 or 4 months a year when in winter usually your lawn will be cut once a month. How many villagers pay a handyman $40.00 per hour to do the most minor tasks in the house even if it only takes 15 minutes? There is excessive talk in the Villages about seniors being ripped off from all directions but no action.

One trick is to quit the service and then immediately sign up your spouse as "a new customer" since they give discounts to new customers. And in two years, do this trick again. Yep, been doing that for probably 30 years between Comcrap, Fios, Xfinity, DirecTV never a problem. Just make sure you clear all cookies on your browser and use a different email address.

I got sick and tired of playing the Comcast game, raise rates/fees, call and complain, make adjustment then repeat the process several months later. We have Centurylink internet (1000m/b) and youtube TV, all the channels we watch and HD and all DVR we ever want.

I don't think equipment rental charges can increase during the 2 year agreement.

From their "agreement":Equipment, installation, taxes and fees, Broadcast TV Fee (up to $19.45/mo.), Regional Sports Fee (up to $14.45/mo.) and other applicable charges extra, and subject to change during and after the term agreement.
