View Full Version : Another GMR communication problem!!!!

The good news? GMR has another site to give shots which was and has been in the paper every day this past week. All is well.
The bad news? Our second shot appointments are for Saturday 3/13/2021....The new location schedule is Monday through Friday!!!
I have submitted each of our issues via the GMR web site "help" page.
I have also tried to go through the make appointment routine with no success as the site states invalid code (probably because we already have first shot and scheduled for 2nd one).
I am concerned about GMR slow to respond to current short term problems.
If I do not hear from them we will go to the new location on Friday (day before our appointment). We will either get our shot then or a new appointment...or somebody will advise us how to proceed.
I know we are in the small percentage that has had or is having a problem with GMR scheduling communications.
We had a very bad start when our first appointment was rained out at the original GMR site and transferred to the high school where we waited in a slow moving line for over 5 Hours!!!!
Unfortunately all I can say AGAIN is here we go again!!
Additional advice will be appreciated.

 It seems like GMR is MIA with any communication on Sundays and Mondays, their days off. I hope you hear back on Tuesday. I checked GMR and Sumter Health Dept websites, but they are not addressing this issue. This is a big issue, especially if you are waiting for your second shot.
Please let us know what you have heard...or...if anyone receives communication, please post.
Possibly a Letter To The Editor on Villages News would be appropriate? I have never posted there, so I don't know if that would get GMR's attention.

I'm scheduled for my 1st shot on 3/13 as well at Lake Sumter College.
It appears that GMR is at St Vincent de Paul church in Wildwood Monday through Friday BUT not on Saturdays?
That is my assumption, that has yet to be clarified. Is that a correct assumption?

I have sent an email to one of the editors of The Daily Sun and will follow up with a phone call tomorrow morning.
Most certainly the Saturday appointment issue will burst to full bloom tomorrow as I suspect there are many Saturday appointments already on the GMR books in the remaining weeks of March....that must be addressed.
At this point I have no confidence GMR will contact us, individually, about this new problem they just created.

I'm not convinced it's in Wildwood on Saturdays. The church may be busy that day.
The saferestart site states the St. Vincent DePaul site begins 3/9 (Tuesday).........no indication of NOT operating to the currently Saturday appointments scheduled.
The newspaper, today, states the new site will operate Monday through Friday. With no indication of what the currently scheduled Saturday appointments are to do.
It hard to imagine GMR would put out an announcement for the new location that would exclude any of the currently scheduled appointments (Saturday 3/13).
Hence, until clarified...unnecessary confusion (AGAIN!)!!!

My appointment confirmation from GMR states Sumter College on Saturday, March 13th. And same location for Saturday, April 10th.
Both at Sumter College.
Why does the Sun note St Vincent only Monday through Friday? I could only assume that the church is busy on Saturdays.
Too many assumptions for sure. I'll go the St Vincent during the week and inquire unless there is some clarification beforehand.

I am doing what I can to clear it up. Thank you for letting me know there are people with Saturday appointments.
In the meantime, be on the lookout for any communications from GMR. They may reach out to you to let you know about any changes to your appointment.

Your story is just like ours! Rained out and waited hours in our car in February. Now we are scheduled for this Saturday, but discover they are closed on Saturday! We plan to show up on Friday and wait. Please let me know if that works for you.

I received my 1st vaccination Feb. 27 at the Sumter State College location. It was very well organized, a drive thru and no waiting time.
Yesterday, I received an email from GMR saferestart to schedule appointment.
I thought it was to schedule my 2nd dose, went site and answered questions including that I had 1st dose but when I got to the date drop-down the latest date available was for 3/11 which is only 12 days after the 1st vaccination.
Must wait 28 days so that's not going to work.
Plus they'd changed location (again) to the St. Timothy Church in Wildwood.
Hopefully, I'll get another email to be able to get my 2nd dose. Fingers crossed!
The 1st email I received from them to set up my 1st appointment gave me an invalid code.
I did receive the correct one a few days later after I finally found where to send an inquiry about their mistake. Very frustrating, all in all.
Is the St. Timothy's location a drive thru?

Ok, let's recap, based on our original poster's #1 comments and concerns.....
Starting today, GMR is at the St. Vincent de Paul Church in Wildwood. They will provide vaccinations from Monday through Friday, based on your assigned appointment date/time.
There are folks that were previously assigned SATURDAY appointments. Since GMR is no longer doing SATURDAY vaccinations, GMR needs to convey how they will accommodate these people.
If you are a SATURDAY person and you heard from GMR, please let us know how they rescheduled you. Thank you!

Perhaps, good news? Currently we have being delivered into arms Pfizer, and Moderna.
Shortly we will have the single dose one from Johnson and Johnson and another source Astrozenica. Financial news sources suggest by the end of this month we will be awash in vaccines.

Hello All. I received an email from Saferestart on Sunday, stating I was now eligible to obtain an appointment. The site directed gave me my code to enter. Sent me to a page to click either option 1 (register) or option 2 (make appointment). I selected the correct option of making appt., hit the continue button, and then was sent to a mostly blank blue page, where I had no option of entering my code.
That is where I am at with GMR. Has anyone else gone thru this? Are they going to contact me via phone or text, or email with additional info? I went to their FAQ and sent an email to their site without a response. Just wondering if anyone could clue me in, that has gone thru the process. This would be my first vaccination. Any info would be helpful and more than I currently have.

They were at the new location today, the 8th. Steady stream of people headed in to the college as the appointment emails say to go there.
Pretty poor communication as the appointment was booked at 7:30 this morning!

I thought surely by the end of business today GMR would address the Saturday appointments as the new location operations in definitely only Monday through Friday (confirmed by the church staff).
I suppose a possibility exists that Saturday will be at the previous location....the community college.
They are able to relocate from site to site pretty quickly as proven in the past.
Setting that aside they do need to address the Saturday appointment holders concerns. I just cannot understand how they could announce a site relocation without addressing ALL future appointments affected.
Wouldn't somebody in the room say...hey what are we gonna do about the people who have appointments on Saturday?????

GMR has been at ST. VINCENT for only 1 day which means most people on this site do not know if it is a drive through facility. You can contact GMR or (better yet) call ST. VINCENT and ask them if it is a drive through or if it is a church walk-in.

I went to the St. Vincent church site today. It is 100% drive-thru. From the time I got in one of the 2 lines of cars until I got the the front was just under an hour 11:43 till 12:35 (they merge to one lane way up at the front so it doesn't matter which line you choose). Have your drivers license, insurance card and the e-mail with your bar-code out and ready when you get to the front of the line. They have signs along the side of the parking lot where the line of cars snakes through reminding you and there is a person standing just prior to the head of the line asking to see these to ensure you're ready to go when you get to the front. Went fairly smoothly. Unfortunately for me after waiting in line and getting to the front and having all my documentation ready I was told "there was a glitch this weekend in the database and many more people than planned received a code, you'll have to leave and wait to be notified again", I wasn't too happy!

I had first shot at Sumterville 2/18 and am scheduled for second on the 3/18. My issue is that today's paper states appointments from 9 to 5. My appointment is for 5:30. I was never informed by GMR that first appointment was changed to Sumterville from Buffalo Ridge so I'm not holding my breath waiting to be advised what time I should go for second.
I appreciate that we do have a vaccination site nearby and understand issues with scheduling and location but the communication from GMR to those who have appointments that have been affected is severely lacking. I'll just show up early on the 18th and hope I can get my second shot.

Section A page 14
As of just yesterday my friend had an appointment in Sumterville and she drove there in the am to get her vaccine. She got there and there was a note on the door that the location was changed but they didn't know where the new location was. There were other people coming to that location and someone said they "heard" that the new location was St. Vincents Church on Powell Rd. My friend was driving back to TV and got an e-mail from the county saying her appointment was at St. Vincents. She went there and there they were giving shots! She got her shot but what a day! Her 2nd shot will be at St. Vincents.

I had an appointment at the college on the 5th to get vaccinated. Under 65 but with underlying medical conditions as certified by a physician on Florida forms. Was turned away because I was under 65, and that it was "an IT problem". Never mind that Desantis had expanded policy to include those under 65 with underlying medical conditions, and there wasn't a line to get vaccinated, I was told no. Wasted an hour out of my day, went to Walmart a couple days later and got vaccinated.

...Just back from St Vincent Church to get my 2nd shot. My appt (today) was at 2:30. We arrived at 2:15. The entrance to church was backed up about 20 cars deep from both sides of the street. Cop directing traffic - funneling. Very slooow going. Finally made the left turn into the entryway, 15 min later. Here's the bottom line - after so much serpintining etc etc all around their lots. FINALLY got to the (only 2) shot stations at 4PM, then the 15min wait after. I asked several cops that were (standing around...) Why the long lines - most said 'don't know'...
FINALLY got the answer from the ONE guy checking people in - bar code, license, appt confirm, He said the 'old' GMR at the college was Tues<>Sat. (but shut down last Friday) This one is NOW Mon<>Fri. So they had to handle the overflow from the last Saturday's appts into today (tuesday). Niiice. My first vacc up on 466 took about 30 min to get thru. The Wildwood location (for hers...) was about 30 min too.
So this turned out to be a FUBAR (check google or Saving Private Ryan for definition). LOTS of angry folks - waiting One hour 45 minutes, like me.

Because the new state guidelines allow for people under 65 at extreme risk to be vaccinated the site allowed me (multiple major co-morbidities) to sign up. I was sent an email and made an appointment. When I showed up today and went through over an hour of snaking through their lines of cars, I was turned away because they are only authorized to vaccinate 65 and over at that location! Talk about a major FU!ðŸ˜

Same thing happened to me today. Did you have to get an appointment for Walmart?

Been waiting since 5 am January 15th. GMR cannot clearly communicate as to where I should go this Saturday. Maybe Sumter College. Maybe not. Don't call us, we'll call you.
I'm considering other options at this time. I'll cancel Saturday with GMR if that helps others in their quest.

First of all, I'm thrilled I got my first shot. But I have to say, the communication was lacking. I got a message on Sunday that I could now get my shot. I did get the pop up that said another vaccination site was at St. Vincent. But my print out told me to go to Sumterville.
If they would have said... "As of 3/8 the Sumterville College site will no longer administer COVID vaccine. If your registration lists the Sumterville site, please go to the St. Vincent site."
How hard is that? I went to Sumterville because my print out tells me to go to Sumterville. I didn't know if there was more than one site giving shots.
When I went to Sumterville, there were NO signs ("go to St. Vincent"). People had to walk into the college to learn the site had moved. And there were many people who came to Sumterville... because that's where the print out told them to go.

As an addendum to (Post#51) our experience at the GMR St. Vincent's location yesterday. Another reason there was such terribly long lines of cars waiting for their vacc - the car lines (started on the street that St. V is on) serpentining - went from 3 funneling down to 2 down to one up to two then down to one (for us at 2:30 appt yesterday - 1hour :45 of idling and crawling).
At the -near- end there was ONE person taking the barcodes/ID/Appt details. Then the final stage was 2 -TWO- tents with med folks delivering the shots, which very surprisingly went really fast. My first shot was on 466, waited only 20 min in line and there was 5 tents/deliverers. The Wildwood location where she went twice same - 5 tents. So that's why I was so surprised, and yes angry, at the new S.V. location.
Nonetheless happy THAT'S done- and good luck to everyone else. stay healthy.

For those with Saturday (3/13) appointments....per the newspaper this morning....given a day early....
so Friday will be a very busy day with longer lines.....unless they scheduled Friday appointments lighter anticipating the Saturday pull up.....frankly based on past experience, GMR has demonstrated they are not capable of thinking/planning that far ahead.
Once the Saturday issue(s) are out of the way GMR should settle down to a daily routine for scheduling and operating......unless they move again!!!!!!!!!

Wife and I had vaccine this morning at St Vincent De Paul (GMR). One hour twenty minutes from the time we pulled in to when we left including the 15 minute wait after the shot. Very well organized on site. Not one hiccup. Put on Roy Orbison and The Royal Philharmonic sat back in the car and chilled. I did call it the world's slowest road course event. They keep you snaking around mostly in double lines. Everyone around us behaved not trying to cut each other off when merging was required. That happened when we got back onto 466A. We haven't been down to southern area for a while. Traffic horrendous today at noontime.

Just like yesterday - when they not only took care of Tuesday's appts, but the full boat from Saturday because they closed Sumterville on Friday and moved them.
Make certain that you have enough fuel in your vehicle, drinks, diapers (if needed), nice relaxing music, and especially a LOT of patience. Esp if they have only TWO tents for the actual shots.
At one point yesterday (we were over an hour into crawling/idling/waiting by then...) a walking med person came to each car asking how many need shots. Looked as if he had a handheld counter, then I became very concerned they would run out...

I'll be in that traffic jam tomorrow (Friday) along with all the other Saturday appointees. A friend went to the GMR church site today since that was her scheduled date/time. Actually, she got there early and the place was not busy. She got out of there (with her shot and wait time) before her actual scheduled time. She talked to a GMR person at the church and they had extra staff already working. If you aren't doing anything, head over there now and see if maybe, just maybe, you can get in.

Email this morning 3/12.
We received the letter at 1:30 AM this morning. At 3:30 AM we received our Saturday make up appointment for today at 4:00 PM.
Without knowing the above until later this morning we went at 9 AM as we were advised Saturday appointments were to be done Friday.
We were in line and on our way out at 9:40 AM....the line was maybe 50 cars...moved very expeditiously...everybody working smartly and courteously.
As I have said before GMR gets an A for operations performance.
As for communications,
the information in the letter above was known to GMR decision makers more than a week ago...
Waiting game is over and done...now to ease back to a more normal life style.

Good to hear.
I think what some on here don't understand is our concern that we had our original shot and are having difficulty determining when and where we'll get the second due to location and hours of operation changes. It's not like we can just go anywhere for the second shot.
Like you I'm satisfied with the on-site performance of GMR but not their communication. I too will be at ease once I've received the second shot.

I need to wait almost 2 weeks for my second shot. The weather, shortages, logistics, etc could screw up the GMR daily routine at the vaccination site. They are extremely reactive and no way proactive while they fumble with administrative and IT changes they should be making on the spur of the moment.

We were there at 9 when they opened.
Yes there was a line of cars....well managed by the local police.
In and driving away in 40 minutes.
Well run operation serving hundreds of people.
Better performance than most doctors office in TV.

I would say no to a different location/chain retailer as you need to have the same brand vaccine that you originally got. The newspaper said on Thursday that the Sumter county Health spokeswoman said they could not guarantee which vaccines will be available using myvaccine.fl.com. So going somewhere else could open a new can of worms. The GMR website states they will not give second shots to those who received first shot elsewhere so I'm thinking other sites won't either.
We all have appointment dates, times and places. However, GMR has moved twice since my first and second appointment were scheduled and their hours now don't include the time I was scheduled for. I'm going to go on the date I'm scheduled and hope that I will get the shot. It's just frustrating that there is a lack of communication from GMR addressing the concerns of those awaiting their second shot.

I received my 1st dose Moderna vaccination at the Sumter State College location. Then I was notified that they closed and moved to St. Vincent de Paul location.
I'm scheduled for 2nd dose on Saturday March 27, a day on which the St. Vincent location is closed.
Questions:
1. Is the Sumter State College site open again?
(I've read that they are.)
2. Are they offering the Moderna vaccination or just the J&J vaccine?
3. If they're not open or only offering the single dose J&J, and the St. Vincent site isn't open on Saturdays,
do I just show up there on the Friday at time indicated
originally scheduled for 2nd dose?
I have to arrange transportation to whichever location so it would be great to know exactly where and when and not get a 3AM email for the following morning and scramble for a ride.
Anyone know?
Truly confusing process with GMR moving around and not updating people in a timely manner.
Their physical sites are well organized.
My 82 year old sister received her 1st Moderna vaccination at the St. Vincent location on Thursday and said very well run there.
Their communication has been terrible.
