I received a notice from Xfinity of changes affective July 3. Among the changes, they stated the following:
“You agree to pay any applicable taxes and fees. These include applicable federal, state, and local taxes and fees (however designated), fees to recoup governmental or quasi-governmental assessments on us, and cost recovery charges. These include fees for any governmental or public programs in which we participate, such as public, educational, and governmental access, telecom relay services, and programs supporting the 911/E911 system. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING ANY SUCH FEES AND TAXES (WHETHER IMPOSED ON YOU OR ON US), INCLUDING THOSE THAT BECOME APPLICABLE RETROACTIVELY.”
Normally, I would delete these emails, but this is concerning. I was planning to drop Xfinity. This certainly gives me more reason to do so. Has anyone else that is an Xfinity customer read through this new contract?
I am pretty sure those are standard today,

I am pretty sure those are standard today, I believe you are correct. They are likely doing that to avoid anyone saying they weren't notified and shouldn't be paying them.

As soon as my agreement is over I will cancel them . They have a license to rip their customers off approved by the politicians we all elected in congress. They usually have 2 price increases a year so that great price they gave you initially will substantially increase each year. If you want to keep internet only their lowest priced tier is very overpriced.

You have to know how to handle them to avoid price increases. Haven't had a price increase from any TV or internet provider (other than a dollar or two here or there for petty stuff) in probably 25 years. With a little effort you can ALWAYS be a "new subscriber" and get the lowest rates. Been with ComCrap, Fios & DirecTV over many years and always was a new sub. It takes a little effort and minimal inconvenience. The streaming companies aren't much cheaper and you're still tied to an internet provider.

I had a 2 year contract with them for Internet and TV $130 a month. 2 months into the contract they raise it $10 a month. They tell me these are costs outside the contract terms. I file a complaint with the FCC and they have a Rep from Xfinity contact me. They tell me the same bull. I say to them my costs are up so can I only pay them $120. They laugh. FCC says Xfinity has told them they have satisfied my concerns. I tell the FCC they have not satisfied me. I ask them only Xfinity is allowed to change the contract terms during the term? FCC doesn't respond.

I don't doubt you but I don't understand. I guess I'm just lucky. Was your contract a NEW SUB contract or just a "renewal" of an existing contract? I see lots of posts like this. I have NEVER in all my years of cable or satellite SO FAR ever had an increase of more than a few pennies up to maybe a dollar and change during any "new subscriber" 2yr contract I have had with multiple providers. Every renewal I do is as a new subscriber to leverage the lowest rates with a 2 year contract be it with Fios or ComCrap and I never see these $10 or $5 increases people always post about. In fact, my monthly ComCrap rate just dropped $10 and I had no idea why but it seems I got the reduction of $10/month from signing up for Xfinity Mobile which in itself saved me over $50/month (PLUS $150 in prepaid gift cards for transferring 3 lines) vs. Verizon that I previously had for the same services.

Comcast has done this forever. You lock in a rate and that deal is in place but they raise fees which are separate. The other choice in many cases is not to watch tv. I pay it because it is easier than figuring out a smart tv. I guess it is no different than your fixed rate mortgage payment goes up because the insurance fee or tax fees increase raising your monthly payment.

Your right. I don’t understand why EdNJ has only gotten small price increases over the years. You can have a 2 year agreement with them then rental equipment prices go up, prices increases for certain services are imposed, or taxes/ fees go up and are passed to customers. I have been with them for 9 years and will leave when this agreement is done. As a new customer or existing customer when negotiating a new agreement you can bargain with them. BUT their annual price increases regardless of your agreement are included in your bill. In February 2021 tv box rental went from $5 to $7.50 monthly, broadcast tv fee went from $14. To $18.50, regional sports fee went from $8.25 to $9.20, taxes/other charges went up$1.60. About $10. More monthly and usually 2 increases a year. I don’t watch sports by the way. So if I am paying more than others please let me know.
