I assume people put them up to display support of patriotism and possibly political support.

If it is political, that disturbs me but is their "right" - either way, I have no problem with it.

To directly answer your question, I assume they put them up themselves.

I am puzzled if it is political. One neighbor is a die hard Republican, the other is an absolutely devoted Democrat and they both have exactly the same lawn flags on their lawns. In fact the whole street has them except for a few lawns. My cousins served and one is still serving but I don’t know about their politics.

Back to the original poster, there are several sources for the "lawn flags" both locally and via Internet. Buy a quantity of them and place them where you wish on your property. My opinion - don't go for the small ones that are almost toys. Get the ones with a 2 to 2 1/2 foot stick. They look better (again, my opinion). I would also buy more than needed since sooner or later the stick will break, the flag material will fade/tear. Nice to have replacements on hand for quick replacement. You'll have many patriotic holidays to proudly show our flag.

New to TV and we wondered why we didn't get the memo about the little flags (we have A LARGE flag). Went to Lowes this morning and bought a dozen. Ours a little smaller than the neighbors, but I think they will work just fine!

I also am proud to be an America. I served in the Marines during VN. But, I question some people's motivations, and if the motivation is political, then I do have a problem with it.

Others have posted that both parties have them flying, and so, that is GOOD. and anyone that wants to fly the fly to support our country and members of the service, I salute them.

But, I KNOW that some fly them for political reasons here, and as a Vet that bothers me.

I put up a "Washington Nationals" flag in my front yard whenever I'm in TV Land...

Since I'm not yet "full time", we like to let the neighbors know when we're around, as it's at random times...

I learned it form my years going to Ocean City, MD, and Rehoboth Beach, DE, when friends would put flags up on their decks, so you knew they were there and could stop by when taking a walk on the beach...

And NOT flying a flag does NOT mean one doesn't "love" America, or honor those lost in wars any more than NOT wearing a cross or Star of David or Crescent and Star doesn't mean you don't believe in religion or your God so no one should be considered any less patriotic if they don't fly a flag.

In my village, Tierra del Sol South, which is quite small, a man with a golf cart full of buckets of flags drives around and sticks them in people’s lawns. I have a vague idea that the village dues once paid for these flags, and this man has accepted the task of putting them out and picking them up. Or perhaps there are a couple of guys who do it. In any case, thank you.

Who puts the flags on the lawns? Why is there none on my lawn?

Going back to the original question of who puts flags on lawns, in my neighborhood the flags are placed by community members who have organized flags to be placed on national holidays. If your neighborhood does not have flags being placed on national holidays, then your neighborhood needs to get together and organize such an action. These small flags are cheap. Neighbors can easily fund and organize flag placement. And one last comment, flag placement is a show of patriotism, not politics! Please keep politics out of it! Good grief!

rogerk

It's your responsibility/choice. Our neighborhood went in together and bought flags for everyone. Volunteers then put them out on holidays. We don't care about the political beliefs they get flags unless they request opting out. Nobody did!

Who puts the flags on the lawns? Why is there none on my lawn?

You have to buy your own and put them on yourself if you want flags. Nobody else does it for you. Check out the following stores for the big ones - Dollar Tree, Dollar General , Family Dollar and Walmart- they run about $1 each - many coming in packs of 3 for $3. What difference does it make where it comes from? Go back through your house and check out where the rest of your stuff comes from . This is NOT political. It’s about the men who died for you. In addition, put them out on Veterans Day for the men who fought for your rights. Then put them out on 4th of July, and very other holiday to say you are proud to be an American! Up north we had our big flag out every day just because of being proud to be an American. Time to stop thinking politics and start coming back to being one people, United Under God!

You are luck that your neighbors who obviously wish to remain anonymous, put up the flags. Unless you do it yourself, no one else usually does.

People put up their own flags. Lowe’s has them for sale.

You get the flags and you put them up. Some streets, everyone buys their own and they line the street. Get off politics for one minute and realize the flags represent patriotism, and remembering those who fought for our freedom.

The flags are not just flown on Memorial Day, which would absolutely not be ambiguous, they are out year round on many homes.

Velvet said that there are both parties represented, and so I was wrong and admitted it.

We used to have a flag flying from a flagholder attached to our house when I was a kid. But the flag got tattered, and so we took it down, and never replaced it. My uncle (my dad's brother) served in the Korean War. I've had a number of relatives who were enlisted, but I don't recall if any of them ever served in active duty other than my uncle. I have never needed a day designated by a government to remember him, and to be grateful for his service. I have never needed to fly a flag or otherwise advertise my love for my country. The day I am obligated to fly a flag, is the day America becomes North Korea.

Our soldiers died so that I would have the right to feel grateful for living in this country and not be made to feel any less than anyone else for choosing not to fly a flag.

I don't "not" fly it for any reason other than I simply don't want to. Nothing political, it's not a statement, political or otherwise. Just like I won't buy socks of any color other than black or white. Because I just don't wanna. And thanks to the good ole USA, and those who have served our nation, I have that right and freedom to choose.

I disagree with you. The flags do represent patriotism, and more. Memorial Day represents those that served their country in the military.

The Flag represents ALL Americans. It represents those that burn it, those that dodged the draft, those that serve in politics, those that weren't able to serve. The FLAG represents all Americans and what American has stood for since it was founded.

Those things people fight about on here, guns for citizens, free speech, free religion, and so much more.

The reason you do not have flags on your lawn is because you did not put them there.

Who puts the flags on the lawns? Why is there none on my lawn?
I find them tacky unless they are at a veterans cemetery. Buy and install a flag pole or house pole and fly the Flag 24/7 illuminated by light at night

++++ Could NOT agree More! I believe it's an HONOR to show PATRIOTISM to OUR country. Plain & Simple. Our lawn flags are out. Our larger flag is proudly flying.

And I have one (always) on our golf cart. That one serves a couple purposes. Primarily to show our joy and honor to live in this great country. ...and wind conditions for a golf shot...

Tell that to the guy who still has his turned upside down at half-mast with a political sign saying "don't blame me, I voted for...[insert name]" near the 441 golf cart bridge.

Disrespectful to our flag and country in my book.

Yes I agree flying the flag half mast and upside down has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with the fact that that person is an idiot

You have to buy your own and put them up.

Depends on where which village she lives in. If CYV a unappreciated volunteer may be doing it up and down the street. I’d she lives in designer it’s on her or he.

We have lived here for over two years and flags have been placed on all of our lawns throughout our area, known as Heathrow on Lake Deaton Preserve, for all of the holidays you would expect, i.e. Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Patriots Day. I always wondered who puts them up, takes them down, and cares for them in the interim. It's kind of reminiscent of the tooth fairy.:icon_wink:

an unappreciated volunteer, that’s who.

Kind of curious though. There are some folks (not even necessarily talking about people here on this forum, I don't know where any of you live, might be you, might not be)...

who claim to be super patriotic, love America, stand for the Anthem, know all the words, the whole shebang. Not that anyone else is NOT patriotic, but they make a big stink about how amazingly patriotic they are.

And yet

They only put up their American flag on Memorial Day.

I mean, if you're going to take the step of buying a flag and putting it out at all, why not leave it out all the time? Or put it up every day, if you don't have a light for it?

And then there are the others who make these same claims, and have a flag out all year, and it's faded, tattered, twisted on the pole, with no light, and out 24/7.

This is a pet peeve of mine. While I exercise my right to not fly the flag, I know if I chose otherwise, I would treat it with MUCH more respect than many residents treat theirs.
