Allow me to add to this feeling.

Knowing before how great the odds were against you surviving and still being so brave and heroic for your country is super heroic.

My family always thought my Uncle was in the D Day landing (his Regiment was). We also knew he was a POW at some point. I finally put it together that he was taken POW in North Africa, 18 months before D-Day. The 16th Infantry went from North Africa, to liberate SIcily; to D-Day.

My uncle was at Anzio and received a Silver Star for his actions.
