So if I understand this you were paying an on sale price of $14/bottle. Then the buy two, third one free sale was priced at $16/bottle. So you pay $32 for three bottles which works out to less than $11/bottle.

Went from $16 to $24 which looks like $16 a bottle for three with the offer.

If I understand the OP, the only issue is with the flavored vodka, not the unflavored vodka.
The unflavored vodka is $16 per bottle, or $32 for 3 bottles, which equals about $11 per bottle. That is a good deal, as compared to the regular price of $16 per bottle.
The flavored vodka is $24 per bottle or $48 for 3 bottles, which equals $16 per bottle. That is not a good deal because you are paying the regular price per bottle, and you need to buy 3 bottles to get the regular price per bottle.

Not sure about your math, but at $24 per bottle, if you pay for 2 that's $48. Divided by 3 since you get one free, you wind up paying $16 per bottle which is the regular price. That is not good marketing, that is a deceitful (and possibly illegal) practice. If this is true, I agree with the original poster, that it is a scam.

Nothing new. Few do the math. Buy one get one, math is simple. Buy two get one is more difficult. Many do not know what they paid. It is a sale, it must be cheap-is it? The large family size, in your head is cheaper-it should be. Do the math, sometimes it is not. Even the shelf placement is a science. The sellers
pay for shelf space and the cost is based on location. Eye level is more expensive. Fewer people look on bottom shelves.
Many think it is cheap to watch prices. Teasing a little but it is a service to humanity.
The seller with the lowest price needs to turn the most to make the same profit. If, the person with the highest price sells the same amount he makes more money and all will raise their price

I am at my snowbird home for the summer and it's nice to be back where grocery stores actually compete. Every year when I return to Florida, I have to get over the sticker shock of places like Publix. Grocery stores where I am now would die for the margins that Publix has.

Thomas English Muffins - Walmart $2.48. Publix Where Shopping is a Pleasure - $4.97. Hey you have to pay for pleasure.
Per a previous poster math is essential. I also have a home in GA. I got a quote from Leafguard. After the senior discount, the veterans discount and the good looking discount (IMO) it only came to $5,800. Such a bargain. I have someone to clean the gutters annually for $100. I guess I should get Leafguard as it would only take me 58 years to break even. I would only be 131. Their marketing is abhorrent to those in the know but effective to others.

It’s called “merchandising”! Lol
It goes waaaaay back. A common end cap display used to be “3 for $1.00 ketchup bottles” on an end cap and people would be grabbing for them. Meanwhile, the exact same bottle was $.29 each down on the isle. Pay attention and use your phone calculator and you’ll be fine!

LOL, I buy only if I need it weather it’s on sale not or I’m going to drink or eat it soon. This booze sounds cheap & I don’t mean cheap as in price , I mean cheap in as in as manufacturer made it for $1. a bottle. I was a scan price coordinator at Publix for several years. Price changes are not done at individual stores, not even the clearance prices, they come from corporate offices and are by region. Same price at Lakeland, Orlando, Ocala, etc Publix, so no "senior town pricing". Yes, they do up the price of everything on sale the week prior to the sale, then the ad reads "save X amount". Read their ads carefully, most items in their ads are not actually on sale, just featured items. By the way, Winn Dixie does the same thing. I do not shop either store, both have high prices, as does Walmart. You should make a list of your regular purchases, then take that list around to all the local grocery stores and you'll be surprised at the difference in pricing. We saved over $20.00 a week. I now shop only 1 store regularly and occasionally buy a sale item at another. It will take about 2 or 3 hours of your time initially to price compare, then you save money every week, well worth your time. I also compare the stores weekly ads, that takes about 15 minutes, time well spent to save over $1,000 a year.

Poster said price was raised to 24.00 per bottle 2@24=48.00, 3rd free so divided by 3 still cost him 16.00 per bottle, not 11.00

It is all marketing and marketing is not some evil ploy to bait you into a bad decision, it is a system or ideal meant to make the buying decision easier for you.
This has been going on since Biblical times.
In school 40+ years ago, I remember them taking a survey of a few thousand people.
There is a product that you want and it is offered three ways to buy it, which would you prefer?
A- The cost is two for $1.00
B- The cost is $0.50 each
C- Buy one for $1.00 and get one FREE.
The response was overwhelmingly C. Now if that is entrapment or a scheme then so be it.
Conversely, if you don’t do the math when you buy something then that fault is on you not the seller. If you miss the sale, that is your fault not theirs.
Now for the biggest secret that those evil marketing people don’t want you to know. ARE YOU READY?
“The buyer will buy when THEIR perceived VALUE meets or exceeds the price!”
The definition of a good deal? When both parties agree on the sale and purchase! Period!

This thread is so utterly fascinating to read!
It interesting to me because it gives insight to people’s basic math capability.
I was a school volunteer, PTA President, and part time school activist in Beaverton, Oregon schools in the early 2000s. Back then the school administrators tried to make high school math easier to learn, by eliminating algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and precalculus. Our parent activists got them to listen, retaining the curriculum as all of that is necessary for college bound graduates. I worked with the university system, too, learning that remedial math was the most asked for freshman class because too many freshmen could not handle the classes in engineering and science track degree programs.
Back to the flavored alcohol discussion: it isn’t advanced math at all. It’s something that anyone who made it out of elementary and middle school should be able to figure out. It isn’t advanced math at all.
Statewide in Oregon, the legislators are still tinkering.
Oregon finds itself nearly dead last in K-12 education outcomes and graduation rates, despite spending above average amounts of money per student when compared to other states.
To fix this, legislators have proposed eliminating read, writing, and arithmetic competency from graduation requirements. Social promotion for all. Combine that with some colleges eliminating SAT and ACT scores for admission, and well soon have colleges tasked with completing basic education for many.
Ones GPA will no longer be important or even useful. Perhaps only a school participation certificate wil be all that is needed.
I hope not.

I mostly shop at Publix for many reasons. The stores are clean, well-stocked and generally adequately staffed. I realize their prices are higher but you can’t beat their subs and fried chicken. Also appreciate being able to order deli items online. That way I don’t have to wait behind people who want to sample everything before buying 1/4 pound of bologna. Winn Dixie is chronically full of empty shelves especially on advertised specials. I find the products at Save-a-Lot and Aldi unappealing. I do miss Giant Eagle and Kroger. Visitors have been impressed with Publix customer service.

I did a comparison shop once Publix against Walmart for same exact grocery items. The BOGOs at Publix. If you figure out what they are charging you for one at Publix (on the BOGO promotion) you can buy that same item for the same price at Walmart Neighborhood Market and only have to buy one. So they are forcing you to buy two to get the same price Walmart charges. I just wish Walmart Neighborhood Market carried everything I like. There are a few items I can't get at Walmart Neighborhood Market and have to go to Publix for but we save a lot of money having done the switch.

No, he said the price that week was $24 a bottle so it's 48 for two plus one free divided by 3 equals $16 a bottle. A lot of stores do that. You have to simply know what your prices are supposed to be and this guy obviously did. Publix in Winn-Dixie play a lot of games with pricing because obviously they can't lose money on everything that they sell on sale. I have found that Aldi's is consistently 20 or 30% cheaper than Publix . Walmart can be 10 to 20% cheaper. Save A lot the same. You still have to understand what you're buying and what the qualities are my favorite things to price out is mayonnaise you can buy the generic for $2 a bottle or Hellman's at 5 and a half dollars in today's marketplace. If you taste different for you stick to the expensive stuff. The same thing for commodities like ketchup. Hunts and one or two other brands are trying to break into the marketplace and you can find them for $1 a bottle quite often whereas the other name brand can be two and a half or three bucks easy. I don't really like Hunts as it doesn't have enough sweetness for me but you may decide you like it. Certain things go on sale on a regular basis you should just wait for the sales. Dressings for salads are one thing that are two for one on a regular basis that do not get marked up so you'll pay $3 for one bottle without a sale and maybe three and a half for two bottles when it's buy one get one. Believe it or not the dollar stores do have some good deals on food speaking of dressing oil and vinegar Italian dressing is a dollar or a dollar and a quarter a bottle at the dollar stores and of course it's just as good as national brands at $3 a bottle. Dollar tree has frozen pretzels for a dollar a box, these are three and a half dollars at Publix for the exact same thing. Of course when you go into any store you really have to look at the labels and make sure the food is not from China! Save-A-Lot as an example it's a lot of their meat from Mexico and you may scoff at this but their T-Bones are half the price of Publix, maybe there's more fat but it certainly just as tasty. So many of us have big egos and refuse to go to the down market stores . But all these as an example has eggs for 98 cents a dozen versus $2 in Publix and all these has 1 lb of bread for 89 cents, versus $2 at Publix or even Winn-Dixie. Just One last rant, we used to buy Hebrew national hot dogs, well Walmart has them for $3.59. yes Publix sells them normally for $6 or more and rarely puts them two for one which is not really a sale because Walmart's basically the same price without the sale again you have to know your prices and be willing to once in awhile shop at the other stores to keep things in check. I am not saying Publix does not deserve their higher prices, their stores are much cleaner their help is much nicer and they do bring out the carts to your car for you . But you can certainly save one or two thousand dollars a year on your food shopping if you go to save a lot or aldi's

I agree. When I found out that the roasted chickens were 3 dollars cheaper at Walmart than Publix, I started going there. But, half the time, Walmart didn't even have chickens. Publix is way more dependable than Walmart on product availability. I think that is how they compete with Walmart.

Went from $16 to $24 which looks like $16 a bottle for three with the offer.
No saving.
Should have confirmed the price before getting upset for nothing and missing out on a great deal. I paid $32 for three bottles of flavored pinnacle vodka on Saturday at Publix Liquors and I was pleased to get that price!

So if I understand this you were paying an on sale price of $14/bottle. Then the buy two, third one free sale was priced at $16/bottle. So you pay $32 for three bottles which works out to less than $11/bottle.
I think you don’t understand. Said price of one bottle had jumped to $24, so buy 2 at $24 each, $48. That’s $16 per bottle (the regular price without sales.)

The deal works out to $11 a bottle, so in my world that's still a bargain. And better than the previous week at $14 a bottle. This falls under the old adage, you have to spend money to save money.
You're not understanding it. Its not the money but the principle. I totally agree with the contents of the original poster.

Prefer Publix, like where and how their food is handled. One problem is associates chatting through ear buds in their foreign language while supposedly attending customers. You want to live here, learn the language, spout your former country at home. When in Rome do as the Romans do, my parents taught and enforced that rule🇺🇸💕
I've never observed this. I worked for Publix for a year and never saw a single employee wearing earbuds while on the clock. Any employee caught doing it would've been immediately pulled off the floor and reprimanded. It's against policy. In ANY language.
