Fernandina/Village residents please help! There was a hit and run accident at the corner of Pinellas and Abana on Wednesday night, October 27th. You may know the hit and run driver, he headed down Abana to flee the accident. He drove a white golf cart with a "Bills" license plate on the back of the cart and a Fernandina license plate on the front. Additionally, the front license plate had a license holder that said US Marines. The Marines and Fernandina plates were knocked off his cart, so are no longer there. This was a serious accident with many injuries. So, if you know someone in Fernandina whose cart looks or looked like the one described, please contact the Florida Highway Patrol at *347 or 888-269-8477 and tell them it's for case #89568188. Thank you for your help!

Look for houses in that village with a Bills or Marines sign or flag on house. Probably can narrow it down to someone from upstate NY

It would be a sad state of affairs if this hit and run driver was truly a former U. S. Marine---what ever happened to integrity?

Is there any other damage you might be able to describe other than the license plate holder and plate missing?? Might be helpful if you could even begin to tell those keeping a watchful eye out what to look for.

I'd hope to think that friends/neighbors know of this cart, with its specific color and plates I.D.d. Was this incident in the paper or such? First time I've heard... What were the damages/injuries etc?

old age doesn't effect your judgement. Being a former jarhead doesn't mean that good judgement and duty don't effectively disappear with age. Since there are many titles that are highly respected that make foolish decisions as age overtakes common sense and decency it is beneath someone who uses that to disparage someone else.

Law? Truth is I don't know but I guess like a car, if you lend someone your car or even if it is stolen, the owner of the car, even though they are not the driver is responsible for damages.

My father had a friend Elmer Trigger Burke went from. Curious why there has not been any mention about this "serious accident with many injuries" anywhere else. Did the OP witness the accident? Sounds like they did based on the details provided. Inquiring minds...

Are traffic accidents with carts treated the same as for cars?
When a cart is involved with another cart, car, stand alone, or property, the Sheriff who arrives at the scene, notifies Florida Highway Patrol, who then takes over.
Our property was damaged at 3am by a 43yo just retired Marine, driving a cart, that was not owned by him. FHP arrested him, insurance from the owner of the cart, paid for damages.
Carts are considered a moving vehicle.
So golfing eagle, just because he gave 23 years of service to his country, and ended up on our lawn, doesn’t mean he made good decisions later.

Law and reality are two different things. As far as a thief. You can bet they will go after he one they have. The car owner. May you never need to find out.

Put an advert/letter in TV Sun newspaper.
Will get a bigger viewing than on here.
Check golf cart service and repair shops for white carts with front end damage, which I imaging the FHP are doing anyway.

I can't see who else has quoted you before this, so I bet their name starts with d as he is on my "ignore list". I'd recommend you do the same!
Here's the applicable posts, see if you can make sense of it. And once again I have to apologize to those who posted on this thread for my naivety in thinking that a former U.S. Marine would have the honor and integrity to stop for an accident he caused with injuries. So much for Semper Fi (to those marines on this thread, I am NOT disparaging you, just those that wanted to impugn the integrity of those that were in the Corps. Thank you for your service!)

Absolutely not true. The key language in most, if not all, insurance policies is the word "permission." If someone is operating your vehicle with your permission, they are covered as an insured driver by your policy. No permission = no coverage. By default, a vehicle that is "stolen" has been taken without the permission of the owner.

Just look at some of the people coming out of today's military and their involvement with shady organizations and criminal activities. Just because someone was in the military doesn't make them an upstanding citizen.

As I stated right and wrong are not the same as legal.
Read post #16 which is not by me.
Personal experience. Several years ago, my niece was rear ended by an illegal alien driving an uninsured car. There is no question, when you are rear ended the fault is with the driver who hit you-simple. My niece's left arm was severely damaged. There was a good chance it would need to be amputated. She did not lose the arm but it is mostly useless. The illegal alien, who by the way had a child in the car, was bought a new car by her father and was out driving again before my niece was out of the hospital. Medical bills beyond insurance were paid for by my sister.
Fair, legal are not the same.

Far as auto insurance, you are offered and I have paid for uninsured motorist insurance.
You pay a fee so that if you are hit by a guilty party and they not only hit you and damaged you but they are driving without insurance which is illegal.
Other solutions have been tried in the past. You make them a slave, you get to kill them,
you take an eye, a tooth, a son, a daughter, etc etc etc.

Yes it’s called insurance.
Another way to suck money out of insurers making them pay for people who don’t have insurance. Lobbyist in action. I pay insurance for the insurance company to cover me not for somebody that don’t have insurance. But, we are pigeon’s at lobbyist tactic’s.

I'm not sure if the FHP will be doing this, but my suggestion is, if you think the cart was damaged, look into the places in & around the area, that service the Golf Carts. I'm sure they would want to get it fixed, not necessarily right away, but soon. They very well might be hiding it in the garage. They also might not have any idea / memory of the accident, and woke up the next morning wondering what happened to his golf cart.
You might also want to look for security camera's, Ring Doorbells, etc in & around the area / houses where the accident happened. They would of recorded the person before the accident, and leaving the scene of the accident. Maybe one of them got a good clear shot of the plates, and the person driving.

really, another golf cart accident.. That can't be. They all follow the rules and speed limits.. TV needs to find a way to put numbers on these carts so that these law abiding drivers can be held accountable.
