How will this affect you?

I couldn't believe all the alarm systems this will make obsolete, plus cell phones.

It has been planned on for over a year AT&T February T-Mobile September and Verizon December 31,22. Check out most automobiles will be effected also.

No impact here. Don't need 5G so I got a free 4G Iphone SE 2021 from my carrier and all is well.

I didn't realize TOMORROW IS THE DATE. We have ATT I do not like the change but we were offered no choice. They did GIVE us a free phone and I think there were options for better phones that you would need to pay for. We had plenty of time to change over and it cost us nothing.

As explained to us, there is a cost involved in continuing to support, maintain the old system and they will not do it. I read somewhere that the launch is delayed. The new system can cause problems for airplane electronics.

An alarm system, I would contact the alarm system manufacturer, support people.
Surely there is a solution, an upgrade or????????????????

What a shame.
Buy the navigation system in your car a couple years old,
and now can't use it.

To be clear ... EVERY carrier will eventually shut down their 3G service.

As long as it won’t effect the yardage readings on my laser rangefinder than it’s all good : )

I can't believe all those horses and buggies that the "horseless carriage" made obsolete:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Never have to update Nav system.

If this shuts down 3G users, does that mean they won’t be customers of AT&T & they’ll be dropped? Or will this force them to get an updated phone & continue to be charged?

MY GUESS: An AT&T customer is paying for the service provided whether they use it or not. Whether their phone is broken, turned off, battery discharged, or 3G-only, the service is still there to be used. If they are still under contract or haven't canceled their month-to-month service then AT&T will expect to be paid.

MY HOPE: AT&T would reach out to customers known to be using 3G phones and offer an upgrade path to the newer technology.

I have AT&T and haven't heard anything but that might be because my phone is newer and won't have a problem.

Unfortunately I already know of one person with an older phone that is dead. They can text, but that is all. 3G isn’t being discouraged, it is being taken down. The expense to maintain that network is just too costly.

The person or the phone?

Ah, the grammar police are awake. Welcome to the conversation, do you have anything constructive for the conversation or you only here to criticize, ridicule and just generally be annoying?

OK, for some background, there are 4 major suppliers of 3G cellular service, AT&T appears to be the first to shut off their 3G service, others will follow, and the last will be around the end of the year. Anyone with a suspected 3G service (medical equipment, alarm system, automobiles, etc.) needs to be PROACTIVE and call the vendor of the product to see if they will be affected, and what are the options for upgrading. The list of cars affected appeared to be about 100 MODELS with some as new as 2019, some of these can be 'fixed' with a software upgrade, some will need new hardware, some will not be able to do anything.

Did not realize owners of a later model car would be affected by this. Would be rather annoying to have to pay for an expensive upgrade. Would think that engineers for a huge automotive company would think ahead.

Hubs is an AT&T cell phone user and they contacted him months ago and gave him a free phone to replace his 3G phone. Not a 5G phone but he doesn't need one!

You know now that I think about it you’re right. When we were with Verizon we had an issue with them with no service & we had to pay, but I think that when I went Consumer Cellular where they had no contract & got free Data. Thanks for clearing that up for me Bill14564. But I have to say I’m back with AT&T service but have unlimited everything & only cost me $23. a month, I’ve been with them now for 2 yrs. Thanks again!

$23/month? Which plan is that?

We have the Florida 55 and over plan but that is $40/month.

$23/month? Which plan is that?

We have the Florida 55 and over plan but that is $40/month.

I have a shared data plan with hubby, self, and sister (who lives in a whole other part of the state).

We pay $30/month for each phone line, plus the usual service fees and taxes. We get 9GB/month with carryover. If we go over that amount, it doesn't slow down - we just get charged extra for the overage.

So far we've never come close to 9GB between the three of us; we rarely go over 3. Our current data availablility is 17.8gb including last month's carryover.
