View Full Version : Another pool thread….Wiseman

I really hate to post this, but my patience and good will has run out.
Wiseman builds a beautiful pool using the best equipment in the industry. Why then, such a negative post? We signed our contract on 11-3-2020 (after an initial request for a consult made in July of 2020) and as of today, April 7 of 2022 we are Still. Not. Done.
We know that we’re fortunate to even be able to build a pool with what the world has gone through since 2020. We understand the devastating impact of Covid, labor and material shortages, and even weather, but this has gone into the inexcusable territory.
(BTW, 5 other pools in our community that were started either at the same time as ours or later have been done for awhile. What they all have in common is that they didn’t use wiseman. You can’t tell me that the other companies weren’t up against the same obstacles).
We finally got the pool filled last week, and are waiting on the finishing tweaks. One of those tweaks is figuring out why our hot tub keeps leaking water. We were told more than once that this was a simple fix of adjusting check valves, but they have not been able to correct it. Last Friday our Project Manager told us that all had been fixed. Sure enough the water leaked out, and when the timers kicked in on Saturday morning, the jets were spraying water all over the place. No one there works on weekends, but we still put in a frantic call to our salesman who tried to walk me through making adjustments at the panel box. We have not yet had “pool school”; no one showed us how to operate the system, so we were advised to look up YouTube videos. WTF? We did, and of course, YouTube vids and reality aren’t always in sync.
So, here we sit at the start of our 18th month since contract signing, waiting and hoping that someone shows up to correct the errors and finish the last couple details before we can swim.
I want wiseman out of my life. I can’t believe they don’t want us out of theirs. If they’d send out their guys and have them work for more than an hour here, everything could be finished in one day. They also need customer service training from top to bottom. Our next step will be contacting one of the Network news stations’ consumer advocates.
We’ve already steered one neighbor away from wiseman. You may decide to use them anyway since they do build a nice product, but if you use them you should know what you’re in for….a nearly two year project.

Sounds like the Wiseman pool that backs up to Pinellas.
There's a lot of that going on with contractors, not just pools.
Happy Swimming.

Have you paid in full?
Any remedies for you in contract you signed?
Could try contacting the BBB.

Sorry to say, but Wiseman tops the list of pool builders to avoid at all costs. Every pool builder has a beautiful pool they can show off, but the real question is how many have they messed up? While looking beautiful, how does it operate, how do they respond when there is an issue, etc?
If you haven't made final payment, make a punch list of all the issues. Document every conversation you have with them. Get any agreements to fixes in writing or email. Hopefully, you can get them to fix everything.
For anyone else getting a pool, do a LOT of research on pool builders. There are a handful in the area that are great, will do a good job, and will backup their work. There are several that you should stay away from at all costs.

We have one final draw due which will not be paid until we are completed. Unfortunately, the contract is much more a protection for Wiseman than it is for the customer.

You might want to consult an attorney for your rights in this matter.
Hope the final draw is a significant amount.
You could also go to their office and demand to speak to their owner.

That shouldn't have been a surprise
Having dealt with a few contractors in FL I will say that some are great and some you wish you'd never met
I always try to go with someone that a neighbor has used and had a good experience with
I hope you make out okay

If the contractor finds out that this unhappy customer is telling others about her experiences he might want to finish the job and end the damage

I agree with previous post..it may well be time for a lawyer.
He/She can look into 'failure to perform', or similar action, particularly if within your written contract, there is a time-frame for completion.
BBB is not an enforcement agency of any kind.
All they can do is file a report (they act as a forwarding party for yoru complaint, to the biz and give them a timeline to respond) &/or you can use their format to log a complaint, both of which become public record.
If the Co. isn't a BBB member in good standing where their rating is important, this is of little consequence to them.
Another potential remedy is contacting FL state attorney generals office.
Best of luck to you.

Hindsight is always 20/20, and does little to help the immediate problem/victim. I believe the OP's intent was to post a warning to other potential pool buyers, not to seek advice on how to remedy his situation. Best advice when it comes to buying just about anything? Buy the absolute best you can afford...it's better to cry once.

Wiseman is one of many Pool contractors who charge too much and take too long to build a pool. Best advice is Do Not Have a Pool Built in the Villages unless you are ready for a very costly and unpleasant experience.

Contractors. In our 2 years here we have met a few! The winner is Brian Saunders with Tough Nickel. He was going to do an addition for us. After many days with us planning, decisions, etc, he took our deposit and disappeared! 😡
Majestic Woodworking - would work on our projects for like 2 days a month! We lived in a complete mess from Dec 2020 thru oct 2021.The projects that he did finish look great, but he never finished! I made mistake of paying him final payment because we were close. He never came back. 😡 we are building a Wiseman pool right now. Signed contract Jan 4 2021. They say we might be done in 2 months. 🙄Seems crazy but i hear everyone is taking a long time. We have new contractor now and he is AWESOME!

Question, when did they actually start construction? We started construction with Fiesta Pools September 30th 2021 and they are just finishing now, the 2nd week of April. They have been very good to work with but they don't do the columns that we wanted. That was sub contracted out and we lost over two months waiting on that contractor. So it sounds like our timeline is similar.

When Fiesta put our pool in 6.5 years ago from they day they broke ground to us going in the pool was under 6 weeks. The timeline has really expanded.

Hello… your post regarding Wiseman Pools could have been written by us. Very similar experience, signed contract in November 2020, hole dug in April 2021, but we still don’t even have the pool ready for water!! Like you, our salesman has been the biggest help in getting any information. He will, at least call or text us back. A frustrating experience, to say the least!

T&D has all of their own workers - they don't need to subcontract. Yes, they build pretty quick once they start, but their current start dates are way out right now. Just getting a quote is scheduled many months out. They were also the highest priced by far when I got my quotes from 6 pool builders. The eventual company I went with was $30K less for better equipment, a higher grade interior, and pavers instead of concrete (pavers added another $5k to the T&D bill).
They gave me an estimate the same day they stopped by (3 days after I called them), started work 2 months later, and finished in 10 weeks from start of dig (14 weeks from permit approval). The end result has been fantastic, and customer service after completion has been exemplary.

Two pool companies to highly consider that have excellent reviews, and a proven track record are Premier Pools of Central Florida (out of Winter Park - there are several Premier Pools, none are affiliated) and Waterman Construction out of Umatilla.
They provided the best quotes out of 6 pool builders for me, and really knew what they were doing.

I know everyone thinks T&D is/was the way to go, but as mentioned, they were, and still are months out from even coming out for a consultation and they are probably the most expensive. They also have their issues. The good thing about them is that when they finally start, a crew is there every day until finished. Our neighbor across the street went with T&D. They put the shovel in the ground in late October 2021 and had their pool AND room addition done in March.
Another neighbor called them for a consult last Fall, and they won’t even be out until this November, but at least their property won’t be all jacked up for months on end.
We went with Wiseman based on a recommendation from a neighbor for whom they built a beautiful back yard oasis in 2019. Covid really smacked Wiseman upside the head, and I hope they can right their ship, because they do build a beautiful product.
On a side note, someone from the company saw my post and just in these last couple days almost every outstanding issue has been dealt with. It’s a shame that I had to play “bad cop”, but it got results.
