Joe Striano places a chip on the outside mirror (inside the mirror) of your car that enables you to approach and stop at gates in The Villages, and the gate will open. No buttons to push, no widows to roll down. No wet arms in car when raining - and reduces possibility of car hijacking. He did an outstanding job on our cars. Call him. Get this chip. You will be glad you did. Phone 845-542-7365

Great, I was wondering how to reduce car jacking (with people in the car) in TV.

Just pulling up the the gate sensor, which pretty much blocks you from opening your door, will prevent car-jackings...

Plus, I don't think I've -ever- seen anyone loitering around an entrance gate...

OTOH, some of those gate attendants do look a bit sketchy... :1rotfl:

these chips are really not necessary. the gate card works just fine right thru the closed window. Just make sure you are lined up with the beam. Works thru a tinted window without a problem.....just try it before you spend the money. Works for me!!!

Works through mine almost every time. Sometimes I try to let the window back up even though it’s not down. Trained behavior

Actually it is the wire which is contained between the two pieces of plastic (i.e., the card) that activates the gate mechanism system. I don’t know where he gets those wires (discarded former resident cards???) but I had him install mine and we love it. Well worth the $$. I have heard rumors that former residents sometimes keep their cards so they can still attend “Villagers only” venues or events.

Yes. It sometimes does work. But attaching the “chip” to the side mirror housing gets the “chip” about six inch closer to the reader AND you don’t have to hunt for your card (or drop it) when you get to the gate.

We got the gate opener installed a couple of months ago and love it! Best $25 we've spent in a long time. I didn't get it to avoid a car jacking, but nothing wrong with thinking that way in today's world!

Why would it be illegal? The roads are county roads, legally open to everyone. Anyone can get in by pushing a button. So they have the chip instead...big deal.

He (and all the people who do it) takes YOUR card, copies the chip info and downloads it onto a new chip (the same type of chip that is sandwiched inside your card).

He then attaches the new chip with an adhesive disc...

There are multiple youtube videos on how to do it...

Perfectly legal...

Yup. I keep one credit card, my TV ID and a gate pass in my wallet. It's an RFID protected wallet, so, I can't just wave the wallet at the sensor.

I've launched my card out the window pulling it out of my wallet (after digging for my wallet in my back pocket) on more than one occasion... :a040:

The chip makes all of that go away...

You can buy the read/write scanners multiple places. He is simply reading your card with a scanner, then writing it to the sticker/button people talk about he installs in the mirror. It is still your information being used to open the gate. If anyone has a picture of the sticker/button he uses in the mirror, please post. I would be interested to see size is the sticker he installs.

Why does the product description say that it is not compatible with HID cards? My gate card is an HID card, and it looks exactly like the card that the description says is incompatible. Because it is not. HID is a specific type of format. There are hundreds of cards on the market that are not HID compatible. Those generally need to be physically touched or inserted into to the reader like in a hotel entry door.. Many of the readers and cards you see on Amazon ands other sources are NOT compatible with this system.

It says compatible with HID Prox, which is 125kHz, which is what your card probably is if it says HID on it. It says not compatible with HID iCLASS, which is 13.56MHz.

Yes it is a RFID 125khz ,T5577 card. I can confirm, this is what I use. The problem with the one listed on Amazon is it is only 25 mm, works good on golf cart mirror, but to small to work thru car mirror and distance. You really need the 35 mm RFID chips, which can be found on aliexpress. These work behind mirror and have the longer range needed. The problem is the newer gates south of 44 seem to be at different heights, and some Trucks and SUV mirrors sit to high. I have been doing a lot of trial and error, and the chips work good, but not on all the gates or vehicles.
