Some of us are old-fashioned a man is man and a woman is a woman end of the story. On the other hand, if a man wants to be a woman that badly a machete to the right place may put them on the right road.
I haven't owned an Addidas product since the 70s and certainly will not buy one now.

I mean, if I'm going to pick a sports company as my hill to die on, I would just - stop buying from that company. Maybe use a magic marker to blacken the swoosh on my sneakers or whatever.
But throwing away perfectly good clothing/gear is basically cutting off your nose to spite your face. You already paid for it. You can't undo that.
I don't wear Nike or Adidas stuff because I'm not into sports-branded clothing. But I really don't give a flying furt if their advertisements have men, women, transgender, black, white, disabled, poor, wealthy, Muslim, Baptist, or whatever else. They want everyone to buy their stuff. And so, they're marketing to everyone.
Unless you feel that transgender people shouldn't be allowed to buy Nike and Adidas clothing? Because if that's the case, it sounds more like a "you" problem.

No reason my dollars should support a company that treat women so unfairly.

Agree with you. A few decades back I recall comments and jokes about the Russian women at athletic events showing up with "five o'clock shadow " and Adam's apples. Now it is accomplished through surgical body modification. If someone really can't find life bearable as the gender they are and wants to modify their body, I say do it. But, unless they have their DNA changed, they are still the same gender they have always been, but with body modification that mimics the gender they want to be. There are some animals that can change gender. Humans are not one of them.

All you experts in a man is a man and a woman is a woman... What is a person with XXY chromosomes? What is a person with XO? What is a person with XYY? What is a person with ovotestes? What is a person who has cliteromegaly that mimics in all respects a small phallus? What is a person whose brain tells them beyond any shadow of a doubt they are a woman? You experts are so certain in your ignorance and intolerance. The genders are not as simple as you wish or your church may have taught you. It is very complex and the exceptions to your wrongheaded wisdom prove the fallacy of your beliefs.
Of course you would support forcing teachers not to teach the truth about gender identity because telling children the truth would threaten your so tightly held beliefs. There is every color of the rainbow in human expression and experience of sexuality and gender.
And any corporation that understands how the emerging picture of the complexity of gender must be boycotted. Cancel culture I believe is the term the thought police use on TV

Targeting the companies that sell the items is not the solution. Targeting the organizations allow /transgender individuals to compete against non-transgender athletes would be more effective. As a woman, I personally think there should be its own transgender category.

Yes teachers should get paid the big bucks. In the early 2000s when I was teaching mathematics, I was approached by Texas Instruments. They thought my classroom lessons would make a great TV show. They had heard that my students were engaged and loved my approach to teaching. I was offered $50,000 for every class filmed. Heck, that was a whole year salary. Unfortunately I woke up from that wonderful dream. :-)

The complexity is in the nature of what can go wrong, the possibilities of maladjustments , biological, phycological are of course endless. The reason for the genetic differences, male/female has been shown to offer great advantages as has been shown by many millions of years of evolution, and clearly those differences have a profound, pervasive effect that can not be wished away. It is not hate or intolerance to state a fact

I literally changed the swoosh on my socks with a sharpie but that washed off. The point is if I wore apparel by a company (that I donāt agree their sponsors or advertising) when there are other choices then I canāt speak out against that company and their policies
Actually, you have more power as a customer than you have as someone who doesn't help them profit.
You also have more power as a shareholder.
If you really want them to change their tune, you'll buy stock in their company and attend their stockholder meetings, and use your power of the vote to make them change.

Companies should stay out of politics. Pandering to a small group of radicals (whatever the issue) will cost them profits.
Get woke, go broke.
Given the extremely small percentage of the total population I do not view the participating companies as "marketing" anything.
They are promoting a specific attribute of the special interest group to the masses.
Therein lies the core problem.....pandering to the special interest groups ignoring/trampling the rights of the majority.

Or hm - a woman with prodigial hand-eye coordination, that most golfers lack, competing in womens' golf against other women who don't have that prodigial hand-eye coordination?
Should Tiger Woods have been rejected from pro-golf because he has a significant biological advantage over other golfers (golf is both a physical and mental sport, and he mastered it from both ends, something others COULD NOT DO)?
How about [insert name] the pro-football running back who can do whatever the heck he does better than any other football player due to his physicality? Should he be disqualified so that lesser men can have a chance at winning?
A woman with naturally broad-shouldered frame and narrow hips will have a much higher shot at being a championship swimmer than a woman with narrow shoulders and wider hips. Should that broad-shouldered woman not be permitted to compete?
People are both however they're born, and their physicality doesn't prevent them from competing. In fact, often it's their physicality that allows them to win. Do we tell those with superior physicality that they're no longer allowed to compete because it's not fair to those with less superior physicality? No, no we don't. In fact, we applaud it, and pay them the winning prize for it.
UNTIL you start talking about something that you don't understand or fear. Then it's a bad thing. Physical traits becomes taboo, no longer permitted. THIS physical trait will ruin the game, it gives everyone else an unfair advantage.
Maybe they should just check testosterone levels. If your levels are on par with the levels of the rest of the people on your team, then you can play. If they're not, you can't. No matter what your DNA says you are. A man with super-low testosterone levels as a result of genetic mutation, should be able to compete on the womens' team. In fact, change the names. No more womens' teams and no more mens' teams. Make it Hi-T and Low-T.

To a great extent Professional sport salaries are a refections of the amount of money that it brings into the owners and the organization that runs them. Women sports are just not not viewed or produce near the same revenue that men sports do. Example, there are no professional football teams and their basketball teams suffer from revemue short falls. I guess you could put this inder natural selection, not because of prejudice.

Most reading this forum will be dead sooner than latter. We moved to the T.V. for the active life style and positive thinking. Thousands of clubs and the best we can do is complain about a commercial from a tennis shoe company because they support Transgender woman . How pathetic , embarrassing and sad and by the way unless you are Transgender or really know some one who is I thinks its wise to keep hurtful comments to your self.
People talk sports all the time. This post is actually about fairness in sports. Many of the folks, myself included, have stated that they really don't care if people want to surgically alter their appearance. The concern comes when a surgically altered male now identified as trans-female should be allowed to compete against natural females. Many of us feel that is simply unfair. Some do not wish to support businesses that support what they disapprove of, which is their right.
The controversy is really that simple.

A very talented and capable, born female, swimmer that has trained all her life for competition shouldn't care that a, born male swimmer, who "thinks he is female" beats her??? Her loss just might jeopardize a scholarship or a place on the Olympic team and possibly paid endorsements for products.
How would you feel as the parent of this woman after you spent years taking her to events, practice and spent money so she could compete and possibly win recognition for her accomplishments? Are you going to tell her "suck it up buttercup", forget all the effort and sacrifice you put into the sport, you got beat by the better man?
It is (follow the science) a fact that the male body is physically much more capable than a female body. It was quite evident to me during my 20 years in the Army that females could not perform physically at the same levels as male soldiers.
There is no fairness for natural women when they have to compete against men who claim they are a woman.
Who really cares what a Russian athlete has to say????? Now if he has a halo and walks on water while turning water to wine, I probably will give him all my attention.

I have seen the commercial, it is not just transgender but covers all women. I just donāt agree that former men should be able to compete against women no matter what they wear.
TOTALLY AGREE - it certainly is not fair at all to women sports
If you were born as a male and now decide you are really a women - fine - but it is beginning to look like some people are using this to gain an advantage . Same thing if a man transitions to a women and goes to jail - he should be in a male prison

I agree with the 2nd sentence. But, I also realize that we are NOT talking about a SIMPLE black and white issue here. Times have changed and GENDER is now much more fluid than in ....say 1950. The pay equity in professional sports is simply economic. When womenās sports generate the revenue that menās sports do, women will get paid the same as men.
It's much more than that. Billy Gene King in tennis proved that. As a society moves forward it CONFERS THE BLESSING of freedom onto its 2nd class citizens.........because of race or because of being women. At this point in history, the US should move FORWARD toward equal pay for women in sports and everywhere. Or we could go "Handmaiden's Tale" back to burkas and women not being allowed to drive cars. When Adidas runs a commercial repeatedly about transgender women in sports it goes toward normalizing it which is wrong. You as a woman should be against a man competing in womenās sports.

Well, I have enjoyed your posts on this topic (as well as others). But, I will take a slight exception here, the "1950's". Today's changes and opinions about sexuality, privilege, etc. are engrained based on thousands (if not millions of years) of male dominance. Originally for some reason, humans split responsibilities between males and females.
The 2 sex model is primarily a religious doctrine and not so much a scientific one, and with between 65% and 90% (depending on which poll you believe) of Americans believing there is a God, it is not surprising that sexual fluidity is on an uphill path, that there is significant resistance to that change.

When genetic differences prove to be positive.......that is called evolution.

What did "Billie" "Jean" King prove? When she played, women's tennis was a fledgling market, no where near as popular as men's tennis.
Now, she did help promote women's tennis (as did Chris Evert), and women's purses have increased exponentially. Williams sisters are the most recent one's to keep the increased interest going...
Wimbledon's purses are the same for men vs women...
The US Open pays the same... As do the French and Australian Opens...
The WNBA can't draw flies... It is subsidized by the NBA. Without that subsidy, the league would fold...
US Women's World Cup is popular here, but women's soccer on a global basis pales in comparison to men's soccer...

So how would you feel if a woman with a significant physical advantage over other women, due to being born (a physically amazing gene pool) as a woman, wanted to compete with other women?
You want it to be fair, then go down that road instead. The presence or absence of a ***** or vagina doesn't mean diddly, except in the case of reproduction and whether or not it's easy to pee standing up.
Ah, the MIRACLE of peeing standing up.....evolutionary superiority at its finest. And PLEASE pass me some of that HI-T soft drink mentioned in the post.

It is more like a social phenomenon (male-dominated sports) that has lasted past its real usefulness. Society changes slowly. Remember that Billy Gene king changed the sport of tennis - and now women mostly get equal pay and equal time for their matches on TV.

Athropogically speaking humans did divide into 2 groups. Males USUALLY did the hunting and the females did the gathering of fruit and grain. That division of labor would cause the men to develop larger frames and muscles over anthropological time. And women developed greater skills in organization, sociability, and language skills. (men hunting just had to point....that's a joke). But, some females probably hunted and some males (maybe older ones) probably did gathering and cooking. Males were probably more replaceable (less valuable) than women because reproduction was essential to continue the species.
.........Now we are in a period of modern humans and our brains are evolving rapidly to take in rapid scientific and social changes. Modern life in an office may be more like the GATHERING and communication skills possessed by women than the HUNTING skills possessed by men.

So if you had a daughter, would it be okay if she had to compete against men? Adidas is promoting men who are transgenders competing against women. That ain't right!
If a transgender man (someone born with the body parts of a woman, but lives as a man) wanted to compete against men, would you be okay with that? If they had their breasts removed, are taking testosterone to make sure their levels are the same as the biological male counterparts, have facial hair, and no uterus or fallopian tubes?

Actually, it is that rich people place other rich people on the school board. Then they vote out expensive programs like vocational (big in the old days) making everyone believe that they MUST go to college and shunning those that prefer to work with their hands. The end result is that property taxes are kept as low as possible by lowering public school costs.
........The other method is to emphasize PRIVATE schools. And then in the private schools, there are many students that will buy the latest fashions like various VERY EXPENSIVE shoe designs and clothing. It becomes pure Capitalism and a high-level consumer's heaven.

I never said our system is efficient. They waste money with the best of them. They SHOULD be paying their teachers more, as well.
It's just that they don't waste money on the epic scale that other places do...
If spending more money was the answer, those areas spending 3 X's as much should have much better results, right?

Point made, I agree. I also say, the same could be said for Intersex people and others.
Whaat about Trisomy women, women with three Chromosomes? There are around 0.1% in the general population - that would be about 150,000 in the general population. Hmm. wonder what they are, since I have been told in this forum under no uncertain terms, that men have 2 and women have two. So, those 150,000 "people" (maybe not people?) are something else?
There is another case called Triploidy with 3 sets of Chromosomes which affects arounds 2% of all pregnancies but it is almost always fatal - the baby/fetus seldom survives. What do we put on their death/birth certificates? Male, female? I guess those fetuses just DECIDED to have 3...
It seems so easy to define "woman" today.

If a man works his tail off to get an athletic scholarship and along comes a woman who "decides to be a male" and gets his scholarship and beats the snot out of the first man because the transgender man turned out to be just flat out better at the sport than the non-trans man, does that make the non-trans man a wuss? I completely agree, parental involvement is a major factor in school success. Of course that will open the door to what the parents should be involved in, but that is another debate.
Let's just agree that the more a child's parents are involved in their education and "up bringing" (there an oldie phrase) the better the odds are for a positive outcome for the child. If only everyone could be more involved, I wonder what they isn't the case?

It'll never happen, as they won't be able to compete on a physical basis. Your analogy fails to consider the developmental changes that occur during puberty...

Actually, the government (ideally) takes care of people that, for many reasons, can't take care of themselves. It reaches out a hand to lift up people. So....does anyone remember the Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King match?
Imagine Mr. Riggs was transgender. Anyone wanna guess whether that skinny little wuss of a man (even as a woman) would stand a chance against Billie Jean. She worked hard to become a true athlete. He worked hard at working his misogynist mouth off.
Athletes are athletes. If a transgender beat a woman in a particular sport, what was the time differential in the finish. If it was just milliseconds or even seconds, it seems to me that it is just a matter of training. And if the birth woman beat the transgender entrant, perhaps it is due to her very early training in the sport which may have been denied the transgender entrant?

Bobby Riggs, in his prime, was a very good tennis player. I believe he was ranked number 1 in the world at one point and won several grand slam events.
Very well said. Thanks for your thoughtful fact based response and questions.

This was sad news. To compete and train your entire life in swimming only to be beat by a transgender that was ranted 465 when he was a man is just not fair. He should have competed against men or other transgenders only. Why should that young lady have to settle for 2nd place.

To a great extent Professional sport salaries are a refections of the amount of money that it brings into the owners and the organization that runs them. Women sports are just not not viewed or produce near the same revenue that men sports do. Example, there are no professional football teams and their basketball teams suffer from revemue short falls. I am sympathetic to the struggle of gender identity in this culture. I don't understand it, but that doesn't mean I can't be sympathetic. I agree that the effects of male hormones beyond the onset of puberty give a male-to-female athlete an unfair advantage over non-transgender women. Life is full of tough choices and IMO, if a person makes a decision to go male-to-female transgender, that person should have to accept that competing against women in gender specific sports is just one of the things they'll have to give up.
Beyond that, I don't get the antipathy that is obvious in so many of these posts towards transgenders.
Give people a break. Live and let live. Don't go out of your way to make others' lives, lives you know nothing about, even more difficult.

That is unlikely but, it is done now in Afghanistan and the US has some responsibility for that pathetic development. GENDER issues are important issues worldwide!

Is that so hard to do?
It is normal to feel uncomfortable and distrustful of things that are different. I have worked along side gay, lesbian, and found them friendly and capable as anyone. Some, in the beginning, may seem standoffish or unsure until they know how you are doing to treat them. Normal behavior in a new environment. This is my experience so far.
Straight or gay, I don't care. "Transgender", I don't care. I guess my feeling is that you can say what you would like to be, act the way you want to, but, sometimes you can't actually be what you would like to be. Your DNA is the determining factor of your physical gender. You can't change that. Surgery, hormones and drugs won't change your gender. The best you can do is mimic the other gender. A supposedly "transgender woman" is a actually an altered man, and not actually, genetically a woman. Transgender in humans is a lie.

Methinks it's YOU who doesn't understand the tax policy...
When 50% of the population pay ZERO federal income taxes (and actually get "refunds" for paying nothing), yes, we have a problem.
If you were really aware of Sweden's tax rates, you would know that EVERYONE pays. They also have a 25% VAT that EVERYONE pays..
In Sweden, MOST (not all) people pay only local tax which ranges between 29.08 and 35.15 per cent depending on municipality, on their annual income. In addition earners above a certain income threshold set by the Tax Agency also pay 20 per cent state tax.
The Swedish tax system includes a so-called basic deduction, a sum that is exempt from the taxable income. The sum differs depending on whether a person is under or over 65, see link above.
So, if you make less than the basic deduction you pay no taxes, sort of like here.
And for the VAT, the standard VAT rate for goods and services in Sweden is 25 per cent, but there are reduced rates of 12 per cent for foodstuffs and 6 percent for books, newspapers, passenger transport within Sweden.
So, lets take the high road, and say citizens in Sweden pay 55% (35% local and 20% state). On top some pay as much as 25% VAT. Kind of a "sales" tax which is sort of like sales tax here. Which runs depending on state between 8% and 12%(?) not sure.
Now, Federal tax rate goes from 0% to 35%, state tax rates vary, CA is highest at 12%, then 9000 local jurisdictions have local income tax up to 3%. So, add those up and your get 50% income tax max for US Citizens. (Let's not quibble over the 40,000 pages of Federal tax code and all the possible infinite variety of marginal rates).
Two things pop out in Sweden you pay more VATG than we pay in sales tax. Agreed.
Second using the highest rates, in the US and Sweden, in Sweden you would pay 55% income tax, and in the US you pay 50%. For that 5% you get Universal healthcare - well, not just you EVERYONE. You (everyone) also gets unemployment compensation, which benefit consists of two parts: a basic unemployment insurance and a voluntary income related benefit. If you retire you are covered by their state run pension plan, which unlike private pension plans in the US which trend to go bankrupt leaving workers holding the bag.
Anyway it goes on and on. The bottom line, Sweden pays MORE taxes, but if you include Heath Insurance in the US, we actually pay a LOT more than they do. And it covers everyone, not like here with 30 million Americans uninsured for healthcare, and vastly more under insured because of massive deductibles and not covered issues. And let's not go into how much better their healthcare outcomes are.
I am not sure what you point of bring up Sweden, but they are far better off than US citizen both in what they pay, and what they get for what they pay.
At least that is my humble opinion.

Before we get shut down here, I'd like to say I pretty much agree with you. I might exchange your word "lie" with a softer word, but in essence I am in agreement. It's not attainable.

I agree 100% Stu....., but we found out 2 weeks ago that some people can not determine or identify a "Woman" when asked to define a woman...
Keep in mind that the woke goal is to build utopia by exterminating existence as we know it to currently be, family units, marrage, parents etc. So step one... remove woman... "swoosh, slam dunk" win for the first games of woke home teams like nike, disney and all the future followers of the $$. Now the teams have their high Court referee in place. Olymics will be the gold winner's utopia! Play ball (or not oof).

My source says you would pay 57.5% as the highest rate in Sweden... Add in the VAT and you're well over 65%...
Oh, and check out how much they tax you to buy a car in Sweden. They increased the tax to "incentivize" people to buy EVs. It crashed the auto sales market...

Throwing away perfectly good items that you bought doesn't accomplish anything. Refusing to purchase new items does. Wearing items that I bought from a company doesn't mean I support their ideals. But not buying new items is what will hurt them the most except selling their stock, if you happen to own some. At this point I don't think these woke corporations understand or care about how getting involved in political agendas that can affect sales. It is best for most businesses to remain neutral. I wouldn't go to Nike as a source of morality or politics.

Bobby Riggs, in his prime, was a very good tennis player. I believe he was ranked number 1 in the world at one point and won several grand slam events. He played, and lost to, Billie Jean King when he was in his mid 50s and she was in her prime. If he was a transgender woman in his prime he would have dominated women's tennis. He was a showman who had a big mouth.
I haven't seen all the posts but I don't believe anyone has mentioned Renee Richards aka Richard Raskin a transgender women who played and coached professional tennis. She famously sued to play in U.S.Open.

Not that it matters to the discussion, but in many cases, there is NO surgical alteration... Lia Thomas has not had any surgery...
Ranked 460 something as a male swimmer just over a year ago... Now ranked #1 as a woman... Sure...Let's go with that...
Hope all that support this have a daughter/granddaughter who loses out on a scholarship or place on the Olympic team because of this... (See how that works both ways?)
How about if your daughter/granddaughter loses out on a rowing scholarship to Laurie Laughlin's daughter? Or loses a gymnastics scholarship to the girlfriend of a football recruit? The point is that a talented athlete will have other choices for scholarships.

I have a daughter who had a D1 volleyball full ride. I wondered how this issue would/could potentially affect her. So, I went looking for statistics. I have found a lot of opinion, but very few facts.
Here are a few facts. Multiple sources agree that .6% to .7% of American adults identify as transgender. This is fewer than 2 million American adults. Not that many.
Another fact: only 7% of high school athletes play a varsity sport in college. Less than 2% will play at D1 schools. Scholarship Stats.com states that it's 55:1 for men and 57:1 for women who play D1 after high school.
Looking at the factual statistics, very few trans individuals would make it to the D1 level.
This is a small number, and the very elite numbers are even smaller.
Lia, the trans swimmer, started a fire storm. I also saw a story about Chelsea Mitchell, a Connecticut high school runner.
Having watched volleyball for years and observing the differences between men and women and how they play, I know the physical advantage that men who have gone through puberty have over women in the sport.
What I did not know was what happens when a man transitions. What do the drugs do to him? How many years does one have to be on them in order to compete as a woman? Who makes these decisions? I wanted specifics: What does lack of testosterone do as far as strength, jumping ability, times, etc.?
I don't know because I could not find the statistics. There is a severe lack of information on these issues. How do we know what is fair when there is nothing but feelings and emotions to make a decision?
Lia won the national title, but Katie Ledecky still holds the world record. Mitchell lost to two trans girls in 2021, but beat both of them in 2020. Do these facts make a difference?
Title IX did so much for women. The argument now is that transgender women will ruin it for women such as my daughter. Maybe it will. Maybe it won't. Until hard evidence is available, opinions will prevail.
