I've seen home title lock advertised on TV. Is this a worthwhile thing to do or not worth the cost?

A waste of money.

If you live in Sumter County or Lake County, you can go onto their property appraisal website and register your name and an email address. Then, if there are any transactions using your name, they will send you an email message.

Waste of money. I'm in title ins business over 30yrs in NJ. I agree with Retiredguy123's post. go online to Sumter County and sign up for alerts to anything being recorded to your property.

Not only here in Florida, but most states now will alert you if there is any activity on your title. Do a google search for your state.

It's called a Property Fraud Alert.

This service is offered though the Sumter County Clerk of the Courts, not the property appraisers office.

For Lake County, here is the link. The last time I checked, Marion County doesn't offer the fraud alert service.

Below is on their website ???
“This is an ALERT ONLY and the Clerk cannot be held responsible for the recording of false or fraudulent documents
Notifications will only be sent out after documents have been recorded, indexed and verified by our Deputy Clerk's
If you believe that you are a victim of fraud, immediately contact your local Law Enforcement or regional FBI Office for assistance.”

CYA. Kind of like McDonalds telling you the coffee is hot.

Although this is not lifelock It is free from The counties and will notify you about certain things. I did this video on how it works on my YouTube channel about The Villages. Hope it helps. https://youtu.be/acuulsSCW24I've seen home title lock advertised on TV. Is this a worthwhile thing to do or not worth the cost?

Hopefully the title insurance industry will make a couple of changes to there procedures that could stop this sort of thing
1. When doing a search for a mortgage call the previous owner to verify actual sale
2. Check the tax stamps on the filing. If it seems low could be a sign of an issue

Thanks for the tip on the fraud alert

Yes, I do think it is helpful! I had on my home in Lakeland and I have it here. Apparantly, it only takes ONE (1) sheet of paper and they own your house. It's like $14.99 a month.

Actually, the Home Title Lock service is $19.95 per month. About the only thing they can do is to search your address on the county website to see who the recorded owner is for the property, which anyone can do in about a minute. What else do you think they are doing for your $19.95 per month?

Life Lock and Home Title Lock are different companies that offer different services. Life Lock monitors your identity, and Home Title Lock monitors the deed to your house. But, in my opinion, both services are a waste of money.

They charge you a monthly fee, but there is nothing specific that requires them to do anything at all. What evidence is there that they actually do something? The only thing they say on their website is that "We look for threats to your idenity." Really? Is there any independent study that proves that people who pay for LifeLock are less likely to have their identity stolen than people who don't?

They provide an insurance policy that is through a third party, but it seems to be way overpriced, with no real definition of any circumstances that would trigger a reimbursable claim. The whole product is too vague for me. Just my opinion.

I would think that if they did not help you get your life back in order would have heard customers complaning about uselessness.
