We have always had a gas stove and have collected several cast iron pieces of cookware. Our new house in the villages has a smooth top electric range. Does anyone have experience using cast iron on the glass top electric ranges?

My cast iron skillet is fine on the smooth cooktop. Just make sure the bottom doesn'nt have any rough spots that might scratch the cooktop. And for Gods sake don't drop it on the cooktop!

When we first moved in to our Villages home it had a glass top electric range. I had always cooked on gas and love cast iron skillets also and just could not get used to that range so I finally whined enough and ended up buying a gas range. No regrets, it's the best purchase I have made.

Have to agree with the "don't drop it". I did and it busted into several pieces!

I didn't drop it, but the sharp edge underneath the skillet etched the glass (in last home), so now it is reserved for the grill outside or for the oven. Too bad, things taste better cooked in the skillet.
