After spending two weeks in upstate New York in December and dealing with a major snow storm while I was there, I am not going to complain about our current weather conditions.

Don't forget to bring a ice scraper, if you are going out early. Also bring a warm hat, gloves, earmuffs, and a down jacket. But you can leave the shovel home.

So happy to hear your almost there. I wish I was carpooling with you.
As you know, being from NJ and the temp warms up to 50 plus degrees would be heaven in the tri-state area in Jan and Feb. months.
Best Wishes for a safe trip.

NJ, we've been here since the 6th and not a pool day was in sight. But then again not a flake did we shovel after the latest snowfall on the Jersey Shore. Temps supposed to be beautiful on Tuesday but of course we leave on Monday. But we still had a great time and just did more stuff inside. I don't know if you've ever been to the movies down here but WOW, what a movie theater. We couldn't believe how nice it is. Well worth a visit. In fact we saw the "Big Red" horse movie and it was great. Have a safe trip and enjoy your stay.

They have a map on their website, but knowing me, I'd surely get lost.

my guess is that it is somewhere between 6 - 10 miles off I95. enjoyed our visit to the restaurant and trips to the buffet! the small detour was well worth the trip!
if you can believe - we were put on to this restaurant by friends from home who used to visit family in the ft lauderdale area and then make an overnite trip just to dine at that buffet!
i hope you check out the link that obxgal posted...updated hrs indicate they open every day at 5pm and at noon on sat/sun. if you are heading south, make a left turn at the end of the off ramp; and if going north, make a right; go about 6 miles and then watch for signs - the route does twist & turn.

both of the movie theatres are super! and even if you are not going to the movie, you can still stop in the lobby to warm up on your winter walk or cool off on a summer stroll! thanx for your wishes and safe travel to you.

oh, 2bntv,ssuch a ride you would have had today!!! departed florence, sc shortly after 9am and had a smooth ride all the way to just south of manning, sc...and then...traffic slowed, and slowed...until we came to a dead stop! stopped close enough to see flashing red lights, blue lights yellow, lights in the distance...we knew we were in for a layover!
so what do you do when everyone is turning off the engine and exiting their cars for a stretch? you join them, of course! so dontcha know - the car in front of us is a jersey car and we recognize one of the stickers on it as a town not far from us in jersey! we chat a bit and dontcha know they are a family with relatives in the villages that they are going to visit! now - with allllllllllll of the traffic that is tied up - what are the odds that we would meet such nice folks on I95! i could accept being in back of a family from jersey - but might think that they were en route to disney world - but the coincidence is that they are going to the villages! not many stranger things have happened to us on I95!
the rest of the trip was non-eventful, except for the 3 cars that blew by us doing 90ish as we all passed a georgia trooper tucked into some shrubs on the median. that trooper would never make it as a troop in jersey! oh sure, he pulled out after them, but he was so slow! he could have flagged each of the 3 cars to the side of the road, but he just tagged the last in line and let the other 2 guys keep going! bet they needed a change of undies!
glad to see that the worst of the road construction in georgia is done and that all lanes are open. and the construction around the ramp for 295 off 95 at jacksonville is cleared of barriers. when exiting 10 for 301 there was a florida statie with his car in the shrubbery - but he was out of it and sitting on a piece of concrete pointing his laser gun at unsuspecting on-coming traffic. we just cruised past that, too, and prepared for the ever changing speed limits, speed traps and traffic lights of 301. btw - gas at the sunoco station travel plaza around waldo has the hiest priced gas that we saw the entire trip - $3.179/gal - and an unmanned police car parked in the lot! gas thru georgia was pretty much $2.999 and thru the carolinas between $2.999 and $3.079. these shell stations in the villages are really puttin' a hurt on folks here with their $3.119 and the bp at griffin rd at $3.149!
all-in-all, it was a good day on the road and we cruised into our driveway around 5:30ish - in time to off-load some stuff that we brought with us and to watch the J - E - T - S whip the patriots! made my day!
so it is off to sleep in my own bed in my cozy little piece of paradise in the village of silver lake. see you at the squares - or in publix tomorrow! ;)
