Went to a show last night at The Sharon, and while the venue is beautiful and the people were great, the sound was really bad.
Way too much booming bass, no mid or treble at all.
This is the second time we've been there for a music concert, same problem. First time I thought it might be the band, but now going again for a different band, it's the sound, not the band.
Reminds me of Sawgrass, the sound levels there are awful too. We saw Zee-R there a while ago and thought they were terrible, but then saw them at Lake Sumter and they were fantastic! Again, poor sound at Sawgrass. Way too much booming bass.

Went to Air Supply concert a few weeks ago. Excellent !
Have been taking noise reducing earplugs to concerts for years to keep from being deaf the next day.
Didn't need them. I'd guess Air Supply's sound mixer made that decision.
Good music doesn't need to defy OSHA standards for hearing loss.
Some of our local restaurants with live music could take this advice.

Was at the same show last night and agree, sound wasn't quality and I noted that the band did not have their own sound system, just what the Sharon has. Too bad. Will not be attending any music entertainment there unless system is changed.

I agree. Most bands seem to boost up the instruments to the point where you can't hear the vocals very well. That young lady has a fantastic voice!

Makes 0 sense. Would think that all bands have a Sound Check.

Note that I attended a Lorrie Morgan concert last year, and I could not understand anything of the vocals she sang. But, when listening to her CDs, I can understand every word. I will never attend a show at the Sharon again. How can a high end theater have such a lousy sound system?

We stopped going to the Sharon years ago for that same reason. Instrumentals were deafening.

You know you live in The Villages, many of the people here hearing is so bad they can't even hear the music.

Cause it's not really a "high end" theater. It costs money to upgrade and since it's about the only game in town and people come regardless... why bother? That money can go into the owner's bank accounts instead.

Went to the Sharon and saw the HSCC band out of Australia Friday night. They were great and what a wonderful time I had. The Sharon is a five star venue and I cannot say enough good things about it. So grateful to have top entertainment here. The Villages does everything top shelf. I have been here for two years and I’m still amazed at what a fabulous job the developers did to make this place.

ALL bands play too loud............so much that the singers are drowned out. Too bad that the noise level is a trait of good music.
Time to bring back quiet bands and you will hear the singer better. Thats the difference between music and noise. Not a logistics problem just the nature of the beast today. It's not music, its noise.

Poor sound quality at The Sharon has been my experience as well. I could not understand the words during HMS Pinafore and left at intermission. Something needs to be done about the clarity and loudness of the vocals.

I also went to the HSCC concert and they sounded great. No bloated bass, no exaggerated bass. We sat up toward the front and the speaker arrays have a curve to them so maybe if you sat in the back you got a lot more sound. I was asking the people around us how they liked the sound quality and they also thought it was great.

Have you had your hearing checked recently. I have noticed exactly the same condition, ie the high frequency ends of sounds have essentially disappeared while the bass end seems to be very loud if not booming. Just a thought.

An Email Sent To Significant Productions at info@significantproductions.org :
Recently, we attended the Vicki Lawrence show at the Sharon in The Villages Florida. We were sitting in the lower mezzanine, where 50% of the audio was garbled. Many people sitting around us felt the same way.
After the show we voice our concerns to staff and they told us to contact the Villages Box office. Today the Box office sent me your email address as the contact to get ticket compensation / credit for the poor show audio quality.
The Email Reply From Significant Productions at info@significantproductions.org :
The box office is open until 30 minutes into every performance at The Sharon. Patrons who wish to receive a refund up until that time may stop at the box office on their way out of the venue for the refund -- no phone required. We don't offer refunds and the option to still see the performance with which you're dissatisfied, which is why exiting the venue and then visiting the box office is the procedure in place.

I attended the Motown show and left at intermission due to the noise. I sent an email to The Sharon, expressing my concerns regarding the volume level. I received a quick reply. They let me know that while The Sharon does have sound people, many acts travel with their own sound technicians. The Sharon does advise that a lower volume is appreciated, but acts are free to do as they please.
I was also told that ear plugs are provided free of charge should anyone want to use them.

I totally agree. A very bad sound system.
it has NOTHING to do with the sound system, it has EVERYTHING to do with the guy called "The sound engineer" up in the booth. Apparently you guys notice only 2 places? Here's some news - none of them in any location know what they are doing.
Every venue has flawed sound, some worse than others, but it in no way are the sound systems. It is all in how it's done.

that's funny, because I spent over 6 years on the road and not one time were we able to control the sound boards. We only were allowed to 'dress rehearse' the sound so they could make notes. I recall only 1 time we did it all but we supplied the gear and everything.
At either rate, even at that, the guys today are not as well trained as back in my day. So even if times have changed and that is happening, they only know what they know.

I went to 2 shows there, back to back days, and experienced the same problem. I complained to a representative on the way out the second time. She made a note and said she would bring it up at their meeting they have after every show. People need to complain so they don't think it was just me. I told her I wasn't buying anymore tickets for Yhe Sharon until they got it fixed. The second show for me was Vickie Lawrence. Everything she said was muffled. My husband couldn't understand anything.

We sat in a box for that show. When they talked to the audience it was muffled. It thought it was where we were sitting. I was there again the next night sitting in the orchestra section. Same problem.

Not sure what you are calling a "system", but the sound was bad. Personally, I would say that the sound engineer is part of the system that produces bad sound.

Makes 0 sense. Would think that all bands have a Sound Check.
We attended the Beach Boys concert at the Sharon last year, and I had to leave in the middle of the performance because I couldn’t take the booming base and shrill sounds coming out of the amplifiers anymore. I wear hearing aids, and the sound was unbearable. The tickets were not cheap, and I was quite unhappy to have to miss half of the concert to preserve my hearing health.

Sound system is the entire HARDWARE setup, that includes mix, amp, speakers, filters, etc. The engineer is NOT part of the sound system.
