We have just purchased a lot in Sanibel. Any other new Sanibel folks out there? We still have a home to sell here in Illinois, but hope to be full time residents as soon as we can. We would love to connect with potential neighbors out there!

I know! We drove down there in March when we were there, and may not have been supposed to, but no one stopped us! We bought our lot long distance, and are looking forward to seeing it in June!

Pzjay,
Thanks for the reply! It is fun to chat with future neighbors on here! I sent you the message before I figured out how to start a new thread, and I also have realized I have not put it on the right forum! I am clearly a newbie here!:o
I can see you lot on the map-you are in the cul-de-sac, and we are in the north cul-de-sac on Bradford loop. Actually, our lots are similarly shaped! We are getting anxious to get there. Good luck on your house selling; sounds like you may have a possibility. Not so here, but it will sell when it is meant to be. Patience! We look forward to meeting you when we both arrive. Are you golfers? My husband is, but I am not; at least not at this point. I am looking forward to all kinds of new activities soon!

We will also be building in Sanibel just as soon as another buyer comes our way. We thought we were all set but as of yesterday the deal fell through at the last minute and so we begin again. We just keep thinking of the future and all the wonderful people that will be helping to form our new "village". It will happen! Jim and Pat:wave:

To pjmcd and jfmajer, welcome to our future "neighborhood!" We have a lot on Bradford Loop. Right now we are in Rockford, Illinois. Hope to be fulltimers at TV as soon as we can, but that may be a while! We will be there for a few days in late June, so we will finally be able to check Sanibel out!

Hey Sky, The GaPeach and I have been down here this week getting our house plan complete and money down to build before the price increase, and it is amazing to look at all the building going on. We counted 20 or so houses at some stage of building in Sanibel. Two additional homes have been started this week while we were here. I have pictures to post when we get home. The Pool and mail area is done and should be ready for use when the first resident moves in. We were able to drive throught the model center today and it looks like it has been there for years. It opens tomorrow. The closing for our house is August 26, 70 days to build our Iris. Just a great time for us, and we have our prayers going out to everyone who may be waiting for this day as well.

We will be back in the VIllages to late to avoid the price increase. We bought lot 13 . Did you have a choice on the builder or are they just assigned?
How long did the design process take?

Any suggestions to us on the process? Thanks

Zummy,
I cannot answer any of your questions about the building process, but I can tell you that we are Lot 16, just 3 houses down! Tom and I will look forward to meeting you when we cross paths in Sanibel. We are going to be there from 6/26-6/30 and then again 7/5-7/10.
We are hoping our home sells in the not too distant future, so we can migrate south!
Till we meet in TV,
Mary

We are from IL also and picked out our lot in Sanibel last week. We are coming down in December to start the house process and hope to have a closing in early March. We plan on becoming frogs. My wife can retire in two months and I will retire in 8 months. Can't wait to join all the cool people in Sanibel.

hi there the person we were working with wanted us to purchase a lot in Sanibel, but we were NOT ready: husband and myself were down there
and absolutely loved it, going back in October, rented a home for a month,
want to make sure we REALLY love it at the villages. Are u going there to rent before u 'r house is sold.

Yes... Yes it is... 12 miles south of Joliet.

We won't get there until Spring of next year.

We spent many years traveling Florida to find the perfect place to retire. While we were told about The Villages, we thought we wanted to be on a beach and didn't get the concept of The Villages. One year while we were in Orlando looking in the middle of the state, we decided to check it out and see what all the fuss was about. All we had to do was drive into Spanish Springs. See the people walking around hand in hand, eating at the sidewalk cafes window shopping to KNOW this was THE PLACE!!!

I refused to go back until we were ready to buy as I was afraid I would end up with two homes to maintain. Well.... We are ready now!!! We won't be able to pull the plug and start this thing until December... BUT... Watch out when we are!!!

Can't wait!!!:pepper2:

Hi villadrive, We came two times for short visits and wanted to truly experience the lifestyle so rented for March, 2011. Bought a lot in Sanibel via telephone on May 3rd, house on the market May 11th, sold June 3rd and we will be there to watch construction of our home (a Gardenia - most likely) begin in Oct! Needless to say, we loved the lifestyle! Not sure about "hidden fees". Are you referring to the bond and CDD payment? The homes are pretty straight forward - no negotiating on new builds. We are happy, happy campers and can't wait for Oct!:pepper2:

Hi, All!
Angie--your lot 26 on Evinston is pretty close to ours. We are lot 16 on Bradford Loop, so it looks like 1 yard inbetween. We are leaving in the morning, and I am anxious to get there!
Schaumburger--seems there are a lot of Illinois people moving to Sanibel! We are in Rockford now trying to sell here.
Villadrive--No, we already own a home at the villages and will sell that one to move to Sanibel. We just wanted a little more room when we are permanently there.
It will be fun to meet everyone soon. Until then, I guess we will be online buddies!

Skyc6, Rockford is a hop, skip and jump from Schaumburg on 90 going west. I drive past Rockford on the "way to my dad's home in Iowa.

Angie and Skyc6, someday I know you will miss your snow shovels and ice scrapers - not. It will be a few years until I can buy in TV, so you will have to break it in for me. Don't use all of the Florida sunshine before I can move to TV.

The Marriott and the Panera near Woodfield Mall? Been to both, the Panera Bread many times. I will be renting in TV next month for 8 days. When will I be there for good...I'm a younger TV wannabee, so TV will likely be close to build out before I can relocate from IL. :( Unless I win the lottery that is. Hi ssmith, Actually for as close as I live to Woodfield Mall - about 5 miles - I probably don't go there more than 4 times a year and never during the month of December. If I don't step into Woodfield unless I absolutely have to, I'm not tempted to buy something I really don't need. Sales tax in suburban Cook (also known as Crook) County is 9.5% now, but it is supposed to be lowered to 9.25% sometime in 2012. Yes, that health insurance is a biggie for me. I'm hoping to survive my job for another 8-9 yrs., but I would still need to work at some job after 59 to get health insurance coverage. I will be in TV renting for 8 days starting July 6, and I hope to return to TV to rent in October. I'm fortunate that with my years of service with my employer, I receive a lot of vacation. If I only received 2 wks. of vacation per yr. getting down to TV would be a lot harder. Happy 4th of July to you!

Came down to TV last week. Patti and I really fell in love with the location of the Village of Sanibel. It's close to the shopping center, rec. center and not that far (even in a golf cart) to Lake Sumter Landing. We ordered our house which will be on Alwick Way and will be closing on 9/29. I never thought that picking out what you want in your home would be so easy and fun. I'm really impressed with the construction of the homes. We also had the pleasure of meeting two of our new neighbors and I got a couple of quotes on a new golf cart...which is a must!!! Looking forward to meeting everyone in the neighborhood. I think you have one of the most lively posts even before you started living there. Looks like you'll have a very happy village there. Many are from Illinois. Will this be Illinois South? Are there University of Illinois graduates? '61? We just bought a place in Pennecamp this January and we have a great group too and have a Fishbowl Party once every month. It's called that because we live on streets with fish names. Perhaps one of these months we can have a joint social with our group. We were a new Village only a year ago. Now your Village is new. Welcome :BigApplause:

Yorio--great idea about a combined party! We actually have a home in Pennecamp, but will be selling it when we build in Sanibel next Spring or early summer, unless our home in Illinois sells sooner. Both of these Villages are great! Lots of Illinois folks! 2 of 3 of our daughters are U of I grads! I can't wait to move and meet all the friendly people there!

Hi everyone. We just sold our house here in Orlando and hope to close the morning of Aug. 15. Then it's over to TV to put our deposit down on the new model "The Perfect Lily". Hope to be finished and moved in by Nov. 15. Our rep, Kathy Collins, has been great and we've got most of the preliminary choices made. We're getting 3 pool estimates before we decide who to go with. We met with All Seasons Pools in Lady Lake last week and we're very happy with the design that Stephen came up with. We're going to check out Backyard Aqautics in Mt. Dora next and then finish with T & D the following week. We'll let you know who we decide to go with & why. For any of you sushi lovers. we had lunch at Sakura in the Colony Plaza by Publix and it was great and inexpensive. See you soon.

We were riding around in sanbiel today and seen some barb wire fence in the interior lots along the roads. Anyone have any idea are there animals out there roaming around that they are wanting to stop?

I heard from a very unreliable source it was the Morse family trying to keep liberals out. I am not sure if they like me either, I'm a moderate.

Oh, I'm too new to know there was more than one. Our Sanibel is just below 466A. It's just into the cul-de-sac called Bernay Court.

Here's the link to the Villages site for it:

Our house is moving along quick this week. Roof on and some windows and all framing inside is done. Shingles, rest of windows and sheet rock should be next.

We should use a personal message instead of the forum for direct communication. Just use the private message system on the top right side in the future.

House has been on the market for 6 months now. Lots of positive comments but only one offer that wasn't even in the ballpark. House shows like a model home. Realtor says price is right, so all we can do is wait. We had another showing today. Keep your positive energy flowing this way. Maybe this will be the one and then we can head on over to Sanibel!

Well - this is what we know so far- Our sales rep just says there is no definite news be he HOPES to know something soon. What we don't get is if there are so many of us who want to stretch houses and add golf cart garages -why are there so few reasonable lots that will accommodate the stretches? Just a little frustrating but we will hang in there because in the end it is not so much about the house but more about the people in TV! Soon very soon! Jim and Pat:)

We sold our house with a contingency. She needed to sell her house first. Our house stayed on the market with the buyer having first-right-of-refusal. Which means that other offers could be made and the first buyer had to remove the contingency and buy the house or loose the house to another buyer. Kind of like having the best of both worlds.

It is listed under the "preowned" home category -- looks like a very nice home. Changed their mind? Sudden unexpected illness? Homesickness?

I'm glad that I saw these recent posts about the never lived in home in Sanibel. I was thinking of starting a new thread.

It looks like a nice house for the price. Am I correct in assuming that if a sale falls through for some reason a new home would go back into TV's new home inventory?

So a house like this was most likely sold to someone and for whatever reason(s) the buyers didn't move in?

I watch TV's web site almost daily for homes, and I have seen a few homes listed on TV's "pre-owned homes" section of their web site as "never lived in" -- I believe these homes were in Buttonwood and Pennecamp. Far from a home expert, but once you close on a house, isn't it your home regardless of whether you actually "live" in the house? I'm thinking of a former coworker who was laid off from his job about 3 days after closing on his first house -- he never even moved into the house. Luckily he was able to sell the house quickly.

We are renting here in TV, Liberty Park. We own just dirt right now in Sanibel, but hope to start building soon. We started making some decisions on a pool, screen room, decking around the pool. I think are going to do a separate above ground hot tub because we had the pool/spa combination in Hunters Creek, but we didn't have enough jets in the spa and it sometimes took a long time to heat up in the winter.

Just pm me if you want to meet somewhere for lunch. Of course, we ALMOST always go to Lake Sumter Landing for the music in the evenings.

We are anxious to meet everyone. We will be staying in our rental in Duval until the end of the month. This will give us some time to get some things done before we move into our new home. Looking to get the garage floor epoxied, and plantation shutters installed first. We will address the landscaping after we move in. We are closing in a few days on a pre-built home in Sanibel (Unit 175), and we were wondering what are the first things most homeowners get done after you get the keys?

We have chosen to get the Garage floor epoxied, and attic stairs installed on the second day after closing. The whole process takes 3 days and 2 days of rest before we should put anything on it. Next, we have scheduled the delivery of a Washer/Dryer, and have made arrangements to have the Moving Van deliver our furnishings.

The blinds and shades have been ordered, but they take a couple of weeks, (they will provide paper shades in the interim).

The new Living Room furniture, and Dining room set was also ordered, and they take about 8 weeks. Showcase Direct will be providing a loaner Sofa until our set arrives, and will have it in-place the day before closing.

Now we think we need to get someone for the lawn, landscape, and pest control. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. We are northerners, and do not know much about the types of grass, bushes, trees, or the pests that thrive down here.

We are still waiting to hear from Comcast, since they need to do a "site survey" before we can even order their service.

What else am I missing?

No rush, but when you have a chance, decide on an A/C company and decide if you want to sign up for their annual program that includes regular maintenance inspections and cleaning.

I picked mine by looking on the BBB web site and picking companies with A+ ratings and no complaints. It really makes a difference how good your company is, because if/when your system fails during the summer, you want someone who will respond quickly and effectively.

These are some good questions. However, most of us on this thread are new as well and I'm not sure we would have the answers. Would you mind posting this on The Villages Discussion thread so everyone can look at it and answer? I think we could all learn from this.

Thanks!

We have just purchased a lot in Sanibel. Any other new Sanibel folks out there? We still have a home to sell here in Illinois, but hope to be full time residents as soon as we can. We would love to connect with potential neighbors out there!

I am now an official Florida resident :) No more Massachusetts taxes!

I got my Florida drivers license, auto registration, and voter registration done this morning. It went so smoothly. They really have their act together down here.

We now have another choice for cable, internet (and soon, telephone).
We heard Brighthouse might be coming to TV and now it's true. Anyone interested should give Lysander a call at 352-414-6756. We've had Brighthouse here in Orlando for 10 years and overall have been very happy. Just thought I'd pass the info along. We're closing on 11/11 and moving in 11/15. Look for us at 747 Bradford Loop!

My husband said he got his drivers license renewed today and was so impressed, compared to Osceola County!

I was wondering what everyone has experienced on days out to complete their house? Ours was 96 days after we signed. We had heard before 75 days. Anyone want to share information?

We were told it would be 70 days for our Gardenia and that they never run over --we haven't actually started to build yet so I don't know
