In recent weeks I have learned so much about the frontrunners in the primary coming up shortly that no matter who wins, I would be so apprehensive to vote for whoever secures the nomination and is on the ticket in November.

Am I expected to forget everything I've found out about all the candidates once one is selected? I don't think I can do that. How do others feel about this?

Keep in mind that all politicians are crooks, so we go with the best of the bad. Romney is only greedy and I feel he does not cheat, just takes advantage of government stupidity. Vote for Romney and you will be doing the right thing.

I did not learn anything about Mitt that would stop me from voting for him. I would have to swallow real hard to vote for Newt.

You're not expected to forget all you've learned about the candidates, but that has to include the President also.

With everything considered you have to decide if 4 more years of a lame duck ultra left wing radical President is what you want, or do you want to change the person in that office and hope for better than we're getting now.

I've decided. I want 4 more years of Barack Obama. :coolsmiley:

George Soros says that there is little difference between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. Rush Limbaugh states that Soros supports Romney and so does every hedge fund manager in the country. soros is a hedge fund manager and is now hedging his bets

Santorum was on to Romney in the last debate. Despite the remarks Romney is making the Obama plan is a copy of Romney's down to the tiers of coverage called gold silver bronze and young Adult. Romney claims he believes in state level solutions but when analyzing his remarks it becomes apparent that there is little daylight between Romney's solution to that of Obama. ROMNEY WON'T REPEAL AND REPLACE OBAMACARE. Romney won't be better than any other GOP candidate in turning the economy around because the government doesn't run like a business and that is going to frustrate him. And Romney will do no better than any of the GOP candiates concerning our defense/foreign policy while Gingrich with his background is heads above Romney in this area. Romney is the 1%, whether you subscribe to that philosophy or not, and so those swing voters will view him in the negative and stick with Obama.

Gingrich can beat Obama. I know I know the baggage but thisis the best of a bad lot . Romney has failed to satisify me that heis who he represents himself to be.

This, of course, ignores all of the polls which say ONLY Romney has a chance of beating Obama. If Newt has trouble with the Romney attack ads (as shown by his debate performance in Florida) wait until the Dems go after him.
Mitt states that on Inaugeration Day he will grant a 50 state waiver from Obamacare. Why wouldn't he follow through on that? Oh wait, he is part of the "Establishment" (being anyone who doesn't support Newt).
Anyone who supports Obama, I can understand. He is a classic Socialist beleiving that "equality of result" is more important than "equality of opportunity". The US is heading in the direction of the EU. How is that working out for Europe?

Why would he? It would be political death. He signs a 50 state wavier. It costs him nothing and it builds political capital.

Also the GOP "Establishment" (anyone who doesn't support Newt) is getting some new members such as Pat Buchanan, George Will, as well as Ann Coulter. Oh, and Joe Scarbough is also weighing in. All are questioning Newt's fitness. Buchanan is the most damning claiming Newt does not have core values.

Well, not all of them; some are kind of sad. Give the President credit, because he believes what he says. This is in contrast to Newt, who has no core values. He will say anything to gain power (ie moon base).
Anyway, yes, I have made up my mind at what direction I want the US to go in, and it is not Europe lite. How is that working out for them? I believe in equality of opportunity and not equality of result. I believe the President, trained under Saul Alinsky, has a socialist agenda. My preference is unfettered free market capitalism.
Having said that; Romney in 2012!

A President cannot repeal a law by just saying, "I repeal that law." It is a very complicated process. Read the attached link and see how complicated the process is.

You and Gingrich need to find another reason why I won't vote for Obama!

I didn't mean to start a diatribe about present candidates of one party and a sitting President of the other party running for a second term. I guess I wasn't clear that I was asking a general question, not applying only to now. I would have asked the same question eight years ago when there were primary candidates of one party and a sitting President of the other party running for a second term. I find it appalling, no matter when or on what level of government, to hear candidates tearing each other down, slinging mud, engaging in personal attacks--and then when one is left standing and the rest are bodies on the ground, all of a sudden those bodies all rallying around the one who's left as though everything that was said before was never said. This is just hypocritical at best and outright lying at worst!

I was brought up by parents who required their children to learn, discuss, evaluate, then make an informed decision not just about politics but about everything that affected our lives--basically how to live. As far as politics is concerned, because of their manner of raising their children I am an independent voter, not registered for any party, and this allows me to vote on election day for a specific candidate for a specific office and not vote like a mindless robot for the candidate of a certain party solely because of the party affiliation. I think we have all seen countless members of both parties vote exactly this way. My mother is still alive and would be horrified if I was to do this, and my father would turn in his grave!

Again, I'm sorry I wasn't clear in my question right from the beginning.

jebartle-- Obama did not train under Alinsky. He did, however, work as a community organizer for an Alinsky group, Developing Communities Project. He also taught workshops on the Alinsky methods. Hillary is also a Alinsky devotee.

This is even more of an issue for me now than when so many Republicans were in the presidential field and I first asked for the opinions of others on this forum. I trust and believe what fellow Republicans said about each other. Why not? I don't believe they were lying. Or were they??? If they WERE lying, what does this say about themselves?

I feel this way about many elections in recent years. I'm an old lady, and though I'm not registered in the party, my identification with the party goes back to President Eisenhower who I saw and still see as a total gentleman. Maybe my values are behind the times. Or maybe the times have changed for the worst as far as values are concerned. I will continue to live by my standards and therefore choose to believe what I was forced to listen to during the race for the nomination!

I had decided to sit this one out...I am tired of voting for the lesser of 2 evils, since I started voting only twice have a voted for someone I really wanted to win.

Then I was on a practice green in TV when a guy came up a just started in on teachers pay, unions and liberals. I explained I wouldn't be voting this year because I really don't like Obama but I can't vote for Romney based on the business model he used to make money at Bain. I watched a competitor in the IVD industry run into the ground by Bain. They never recovered...then sold and only now can they compete. I explained that to this to guy and the fireworks stated. The wife joined in saying that if I didn't vote that was a vote for Obama...still don't understand that one.

So here I sit, in a swing state, won't vote for Romney and don't want to vote for Obama. Time to write in Hillary?

There's still talk of Hillary taking over the V.P. spot from Biden. Biden's not being seen as an asset to Obama's chances of late, with him making more unwelcome comments than usual.

He has actually taken a little "vacation" this week, ostensibly to help his daughter prepare for her coming wedding.

I kind of figured it would. I don't know what Hillary would have to be promised to accept the V.P. nod, but it would definitely be a huge plus for Obama, so I still expect it.

I'm not happy about it myself, but I completely understand the strategy of her accepting the position.

How do others feel about this?Yours is demonstrative of the real problem resulting from the Supreme Court decision that anyone can spend any amount of money to finance a political campaign. It's the right of free speech under the Constitution, they said. Oh, I suppose I should add that negative campaigning has been proven to work and has become the modus operendi of almost all political campaigns at any level.

By the time the two candidates for POTUS cut and slash each other with attack ads between now and November, not only will people stop listening to them, but they'll hate and distrust whichever of the candidates actually succeeds in getting elected. He'll have little chance of effectively leading the country in the direction it needs to go.

Well, that would be an unbeatable ticket. Just think that Mrs. Clinton would then go on to be President in 2016 with good possibility of 2020 after that. The GOP would be a forgotten item by the end of that time period.

I totally agree. Hillary Clinton will be on the ticket by the time the convention rolls around in September. Both her and VP Joe Biden will do it for the good of the party, if it looks like Mitt Romney is within striking distance. What choice do they have? Biden would be out of work if President Obama loses, and Clinton could possibly have to wait until 2020 to run for president.

BTW, Biden could take over as Secretary of State, a job he has coveted in the past, and he could rent the Clinton's beautiful DC home when he has to vacate the Naval Observatory. It's a win-win for everybody except Romney.

No, because by that time Obama would have more fully realized his ambition of destroying this country from within without impediment due to his lame-duck status, and the people would be rebelling against it in a way that would make the hatred of Bush after 8 years seem like a minor disagreement.

That's the big risk for Hillary. She could get swept away in a wave of Obama rebellion that will silence her aspirations forever.

if Hillary wants a shot at POTUS in 2016 ....the leesor risk is to not be Obama's VP.

Why would she take on the risk of being tainted by what ever the Obama lame duck scenario will bring.

If she did, she would have to run against what Obama did and mostly didn't do. She would then have to adopt the Obama strategy of blaming the previous POTUS for what she could/would inherit from the Obama presidency.

I am not even in the slightest convinced Clinton would sway those who are dissatisfied with Obama's performance to give him 4 more years.

Since we are all guessing (some hoping)....I just don't think, if she really wants a clear shot at running strong in 2016, she will take on the risk of Obama.
