I drive a black BMW Z4. It was parked in the north 40 in the Belk shopping center last year. While I was in the store, someone in a golf cart (it was obvious that it was a golf cart) hit it causing $500.00 worth of damage and left without owning up to what he or she did. Does anyone have a clue as to who did it? Whoever it was, shame on you! I work hard for a living. My deductable is $500.00, so I had to pay for the repairs out of my own pocket. If a person can afford a golf cart, then they can afford to pay for their mistakes.

I had the same thing happen to me - Golf Carts are terrible and the drivers think nothing of cutting us off and think they have the right of way. I do not do golf carts. It happens here all the time and I also found out some of the golf carts are not insured.

This happened last year?
Really does not matter if it was a car or golf cart. A majority of people (in my opinion) would not leave a note about damaging your car.
I posted about if a golfer would have responsibility (either legal or personal) to offer to pay for a broken window caused by his golf ball. Many repliers said they would not even go to the house and own up to the fact they hit the ball.
It is not just a Village issue but in any community across the country.

a year ago, hmmm, let me think, oh yeah it was a guy wearing green.
why are you are so sure it was a golf cart? were there broken tees at the scene ?
I do find you to be very patient though, waiting a whole year and all....just to make this your first post...

"were there tees at the scene":1rotfl: I don't wish to make light of this incident because this person was violated and his vehicle damaged but this post caught my funny bone:1rotfl:

Happened to me while eating breakfst at Billy's Cafe. I came out and the side of my car was bashed in. No note and they probably had just eaten themselves.
I cried because it was a new car.
Hwy patrol came and said it happens all the time and is very prevalant in Florida.
I will now park where no cars are and will walk.
No further comments.
Cost me $500. deductable.
Hope you sleep well.

Hi Tennessee,
Welcome to TOTV! Sorry to hear you had that bad experience. Hope you've had many happy occasions here since.

Cars bumping other cars and not owning up to it happens everywhere. It's not right, but it happens. I always park as far out as I can away from everything and have found that it works well. Most people don't want to walk that far to get where they are going. I have found that since I moved to Florida, it's more difficult to park way out due to the heat. Up north we didn't have to worry about walking in the high heat because it rarely got above 80! Anyhow, I digress. Sorry for your accident but a thick skin will be an order when driving anywhere. I also see people leave their shopping carts near other cars and when the wind blows.....guess what?? It goes into your car. I don't like it either but it is what it is.

Do they have cameras in the parking lot ? Maybe it can be checked? Yeah people anymore are like that. We just had a big hoopla today with water stealing by construction crews. Yeah I've had those golf carts pull in tight on my vehicle. Come out to find them like that. I will make an inspection before pulling away for any damage, but I'm guessing a cart maybe backed into you? Sounds like good damage :( .
Unfortunately no note, probably not going to hone up to what they did even if they see it here.

Yeah I hate the cart thing. I actually will grab them if they're near where I park and drag them to cart returns on the way into a store. I mean there is enough cart returns in lots that you don't have to go but a few feet but noooooo ;)

Its not that I don't empathize with the fact that the thread starter had to pay his $500 deductible, but I have to admit I got a kick out of yur post Looney. Guess the thread starter just wanted to vent, and this is a safe place to do so.

Been there, had that happen to a car of mine (in OH) a number of years ago - damage caused by who knows what. Repairs came to around $2k. Some people would leave a note - some wouldn't. I happened to get one of the latter.
I also witnessed a fellow back out of a parking space in a Lowe's parking lot (in OH), popping the car in the parking line behind him pretty good (empty car, customer in the store)......and then he started driving off! Me being not real bright, I walked in front of his car, essentially forcing him to stop (glad he did!). I walked up to his window (female also in the car with him) and asked him if he'd planned to leave them a note about the damage he caused. Then the brow-beating commenced......against ME!! He didn't hit the car.......I was seeing things......I needed to mind my own business - the guy was pretty cranked up, to say the least. I encouraged him to take some deep breaths, come out and look at the damage, and to do the right thing and leave them a note. He did - I even checked the note after he left. I make the rash assumption he didn't come back later to snag the note as I saw him drive out of the lot and down the road.

Happened to me a few years ago. Bought a new suv and even though I parked out in the boonies someone backed up and crushed my license plate and dented my bumper. No note, no nothing. We paid for it. Along those lines, my husband and I were in Sumter back in February and watched a pair of golf carts, which were both parked in the same parking spot, one in front of the other. The front cart wanted to get out so the back cart was waiting for them to back out of the spot. Unfortunately, he wasn't waiting very patiently. The people were in their cart waiting for traffic to clear before they could back out and the other cart driver proceeded to bump his cart not once but twice to make him move faster!! The people were in the cart trying to move! I couldn't believe my eyes. The people who were trying to move didn't do anything but if he would have bumped my cart I believe I would have said something. The nerve of some people.

Had it happen to me in California. Parked at the BART lot, car hit my car and did major damage (over $3,000). Fortunately, a bus driver saw the accident and got the license plate number and dropped me a note through my sunroof. Said he had seen the driver leave a note and then remove it. What was interesting was that the driver told the police that it was my car's fault (it was parked too close to the white line). Still remember the officer asking him, "Why? Did her car jump out and move in front of your car?" Don't know why, but I think the police were angrier than I was.
However, sorry to hear it happened to you. It is not a pleasant feeling to discover someone has damaged your property and didn't have the common decency to take responsibility for that damage. Not sure why you're assuming it was a golf cart, but I'm sure you have your reasons.

Unbelievable. Rude Agressive and asking for someone to get out and bump them back, HARD!

There are some responsible people out there. I was playing at a member-guest last year. It was a windy day. After the dinner, I got out to the parking lot and saw a large ding in my driver side door. The guy left a note and his card and offered to pay for the deductible. So they aren't all hit and run people.

You actually need to do more than leave a note and pay for the deductible. I had a situation a few years ago where I backed into a vehicle (in a private parking lot) that was in a blind spot for me. I left a note, etc. but then, when I got home, I figured I'd better call the police and report it as well. They told me I should never had left the scene before reporting it.
I drove back to the station, filled out the necessary paperwork and even met the driver of the other car who also drove back to the station. What I thought might turn out to be an uncomfortable situation (not only for his major inconvenmience but also since since his car was brand new - still had the temporay tags on), turned out to be quite positive - he thanked me profusely for doing the right thing.

Is it possible that the person that was sharing the parking spot blocked the first driver in?...If that's the case, it took a lot of nerve to do that!

Yeah it can be construed as leaving a scene of an accident. Dad and I were talking about that, car or golf cart. If you're caught or there is video surveilance or an eye witness tags you....boy oh boy....just don't do it guys. You own a toy, you choose not to insure it you better be able to cover any damages you may cause even if it is an accident.
One question did come up on golf carts...can you cover them with your home owners if they're not street legal?

No, you need a separate policy on your golf cart. Cost is between 100 and 150 per year.
