View Full Version : The Villages Hospital
Today, Mike and I got to spend a good portion of the day at The Villages Hospital. Mom-in-law was experiencing pressure in her chest and called 911, then us. EMT's arrived quickly, set up IV's, took info from us and headed to the hospital. When we arrived, Mom was in an ER room, blood had been drawn, EKG had been done, etc. Doctor came in, took info, did an exam, explained tests that would be done and why...nitro patch put on and explanation of what could be experienced because of the patch. As we waited, she was going to be admitted for further tests, I counted the number of ambulances that arrived early this morning......6.....some from Sumter County, others from Lake and Marion Counties. Grandma was comfortable, stable and being well cared for. We left to get some things for her and when we returned, she was up in her room, resting. The nurse arrived to take down more info, the cardiologist arrived, did his exam, explained what course of action would follow, making certain Mom and we understood. Then lab tech arrived to draw yet more blood and next, the hospital GP arrived, asked questions, did an exam, explained what could be happening, what tests would be performed and the course of action that would be followed, depending on test results. Later the test results came in indicating that a cardiac event had not taken place. A stress test was the final test to take place, but that would be tomorrow. We headed home for dinner and returned with some more things Mom wanted for the evening. By the time we returned, part of the stress test had already been performed and Mom was enjoying her dinner.
Her care today was great, all the hospital staff we dealt with were upbeat and caring, understanding and extremely busy. Our thank you to all, the clerks, the nurses' aides, the nurses, the physicians.

Echoing everything everyone else said! I would have to say I also had a very positive experience with T.V. hospital. They did a great job in my care which also was an emergency (but not the same as your mom's)

So glad your experience with Village Hospital was very good and that MIL received immediate attention. Good news all around. Hope her health continues to improve and that she's home real soon.
Kinda comforting to hear that our hospital is not the disaster we have heard so much about. Thanks for sharing this.

Pooh's mother in law is one of my favorite people. She also routinely beats me at golf while looking like the cover of a fashion magazine and making me double over in laughter at her quick wit and absolutely wicked sense of humor.
Plus she gave birth to and raised one of the smartest guys you'd ever want to meet.
She needs to get better soon, because I am almost ready to take this orthopedic boot off and I am looking forward to a good game of golf with one of my favorite foursomes.
Hope Pooh prints this for you D, We are all sending love for your very fast recovery.

I am so happy to hear A Good Report on our very own hospital, which has been badly treated for many years. Granted, I haven't had any personal experience with it, but have always been disappointed by the folks who seem to believe that The Only Good Hospital is somewhere else!
I know nearly-ten-year Villagers who still would rather go to Gainesville for treatment, or, better yet, Johns Hopkins!
Seems to me that you can get pretty bad care in some of those big places!
IMHO.

Thank you all for your good wishes for Mom. Seems she most likely has a blockage that will be addressed tomorrow morning. She's comfortable, has a wonderful roommate and continues to receive great care from all attending to her medical needs. Hopefully, tomorrow's procedure will go quickly and she can come home Tuesday. While her stay has been a good one, there's no place like home.....

I echo that too Kathie. Hope all turns out well with MIL. We are bringing my MIL with us in a few months and your thorough summary of the events of the day are most reassuring. My MIL is 91, has a pacemaker, and we never fool around when chest pains occur.
Prayers that God surrounds your MIL with his healing arms and strengthens you throughout this recent episode.
