View Full Version : Why Romney is unlikeable

Passing this along just as it was sent to me, with no further comment except to say that #4 should say just "southern preacher" IMO.

Why Mitt Romney is Unlikable! ................................

A lot is being said in the media about Mitt Romney not being "likable" or that he doesn't "relate well" to people. Frankly, we struggled to understand why. So after much research, we have come up with a Top Ten List to explain this "unlikablility."

Top Ten Reasons To Dislike Mitt Romney:

1. Drop-dead, collar-ad handsome with gracious, statesmanlike aura. Looks like every central casting's #1 choice for Commander-in-Chief.

2. Been married to ONE woman his entire life, and has been faithful to her, including through her bouts with breast cancer and MS.

3. No scandals or skeletons in his closet. (How boring is that?)

4. Can't speak in a fake, southern, "black preacher voice" when necessary.

5. Highly intelligent. Graduated cum laude from both Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School...and by the way, his academic records are NOT sealed.

6. Doesn't smoke or drink alcohol, and has never done drugs, not even in the counter-culture age when he went to college. Too square for today's America?

7. Represents an America of "yesterday", where people believed in God, went to Church, didn't screw around, worked hard, and became a SUCCESS!

8. Has a family of five great sons....and none of them have police records or are in drug rehab. But of course, they were raised by a stay-at-home mom, and that "choice" deserves America's scorn.

9. Oh yes.....he's a MORMON. We need to be very afraid of that very strange religion that teaches its members to be clean-living, patriotic, fiscally conservative, charitable, self-reliant, and honest.

10. And one more point...pundits say because of his wealth, he can't relate to ordinary Americans. I guess that's because he made that money HIMSELF.....as opposed to marrying it or inheriting it from Dad. Apparently, he didn't understand that actually working at a job and earning your own money made you unrelatable to Americans.

I think I can trust him. He is the best choice available by far.

Save the republic, elect Mitt Romney!

Thanks for the run down.

Mitt Romney reminds me in many ways of John Kerry, who I also did not find all that likeable. I voted for Bush in 2004 mainly because he seemed a lot more trusthworthy than John Kerry. I actually though John Edwards was rather honest though, at least for a trial lawyer.

Mitt Romney just comes off as such a phoney baloney with his fake laugh...heh heh heh. When asked by Diane Sawyer what he would say to President Obama, Romney answered "Start packing" heh heh heh. Ann Romney said "It's our turn". Who do they think they are? Charles and Camilla?

the list certainly sets him apart from the career politicians.
And the deal maker for many of is:

The Romney's obviously have morals..I don't think anybody needs an R or a D to contrast morals vs not.....although the partisan loyalists...no matter what....still throw stones....incredible.

I don't not know about their morals and neither do you.

I had not noticed one of the posters on this thread who could refute item for item the top ten list Ed posted?

Compared to the sliding scale standards used in today's society Romney could be canonized a Saint. He is hard working, a good husband and family man, a church goer, provides good example for his children to follow, charitable, clean cut, an all American, despite previous vettings does not appear to have anything to hide, intelligent, well educated and has leadership experience/skills.

Gosh I have my hands waist high palms up and doing a balancing the scale motion Obama Romney Obama Romney Obama Romney. Geezzz this is such a difficult decision

I am neither a Romney supporter, nor an Obama supporter. My belief is that both are good men who truly want what is best for their country. Obama has not done a stellar job, despite good intentions. Mitt, is a good man and may be able to get things turned around, but we cannot know for sure. I am still watching, listening, reading, and questioning who deserves my one vote.

Good post eweissenbach. I too am waiting for the debates even though after the London and Israel comments by Mitt Romney I am leaning heavily towards Barack Obama. Romney looks to much like he wants to start a war. He actually seems rather hotheaded with respect to foreign policy. Seems to be selling out peace in the Mideast for a few Jewish votes.

"knowing" is a relative term.

What each of us "knows" is relative to each individual....I am quite content (some prefer to call it naieve or whatever) in what I know about Mitt Romney as a candidate and his morals VS Barrack Obama's morals as a candidate and POTUS for the last 4 years.

I know as much as anybody else does that does not rely only on the media for input and knowledge.

As far as quoting John Edwards as an example you only underscore that for most politicians it really does not matter what their morals are....until they get caught.

What I "know" tells me Romney is the far better man. When I aquire any new information that may affect what I know, I will take that into consideration.

No different than the litany of defenders of Obama who supposedly "know" him.

Remember the advantage of Romney his background is non political, hence by what we all "know" that means he certainly is more credible than most political incumbents.

I actually saw the interview and Ann Romney did say "you people" although my interpretation - based on hand gestures, facial expression, etc. - was that she meant "you people - the media". I don't understand how we, the people will get this important information if not through the media. Also, I think that it's very unfortunate that both the campaign and Governor Romney chose to send his wife out to answer questions when Romneys' tax returns were a "hot" item. These questions are better asked of him and should be answered by releasing more than one complete tax filing.

Perhaps Harry Reid is telling the truth perhas not but it is possible. My question is what makes it wrong if Romney abided by all of the IRS rulings, exceptions, deductions, etc and managed to walk away without owing any taxes. In otherwords why would you fault an individual for doing what Congress and the IRS deemed to be legal. since when should an individual be punsihed for his/her acumen, skill, gift. Sports people movie stars are rewarded for their skills. romney's skill is in finance so I see no justification to attack him unless and until it has been established in a court of law or IRS ruling that romney did something illegal.

Now go bone up on your finance and accounting lessons

Perfectly explained! What puzzles me is when he was our Governor in Massachusetts most people liked him (except for the ones that are similar to the ones NOW that don't like him) and he was a great Governor I might add. So basically, it's all about JEALOUSY!

Mitt Romney has made very heavy use of the paper shredder after leaving various significant positions in his career. A lot of paperwork seemed to disappear after the Salt Lake City Olympics. http://www.govexec.com/management/2012/07/report-romneys-salt-lake-city-olympics-lacked-transparency/56964/

"When Mitt Romney left Bain Capital to take control of the Salt Lake City Olympics in 1999, he promised “complete transparency.” But reporters and public officials say they were denied access to certain documents, and archivists allege that many of the Games’ key records were destroyed shortly after the they ended, reports The Boston Globe.

Romney and the Salt Lake Organizing Committee had no legal obligation to either preserve key records or make them public since the Games were organized by a private, nonprofit corporation that was exempt from public records laws." quote from linked govexec.com article above.

I am not saying though that much of President Obama's life was transparent.

When Governor Mitt Romney left office, his approval rating was 34% much as it is today in Massachusetts. This is a number comparable to Governor Rick Scott's approval rate. The Romney campaign is not even competing in his home state.
