Is there any way you can transfer money from one bank to another on line or does it have to be the same bank as the one you are transferring from ? I mean like from Citizens to Sun Trust ?

If you have the ability to scan the check, you can.
Check out this Sun Trust link.

Go online to your bank. Click on transfer. It will ask if same bank or another bank. Click another. It will ask for bank # and routing #. It should be instant and it should not cost.

When we bought our house a few years back, we just went to our bank and had a cashier's check cut and then sent it overnight Fed-X to Citizen's Bank. At Citizen's we had a contact person who watched for the Fed-X to arrive then she personally hand carried it to the teller and deposited it.

Sounds cumbersome, but it really worked for us. We were on a tight schedule since our house in Ohio closed and the money needed to be in our Citizen's account right away.

Yes, you can do this. It's simple. You need to have an account at both banks and you need the bank # and routing # for the bank you're sending the money to.

I do it with Wells Fargo all the time. On the Wells Fargo website they have an option to transfer funds to anyone with an email address. My brother is with Bank of America and I transfer funds to him on a monthly basis. All done electronically.....no paper checks or running to the bank.

You can use your online banking "bill paying" service to send yourself a check at the other bank, to have the check deposited to you in your checking account on the receiving end.

Citizens Bank here told me that many customers use their out of state bank's online banking bill payer service, to send themselves a check to deposit here in their account at Citizens. The receiving end checking account number here needs to be placed in the check contents' reference line. I've done it and it works fine. They can tell you how to do it.

Our northern bank also has "external transfers", in which you set up your checking/savings account there to send money to an external bank, via your online banking site. That takes them awhile to set up the security of the electronic transfer, but once that's done it works fine.

This is the way our bank seems to allow for it as well. Though I've never used the "between banks" option (our savings/checking/business accounts are all with the same bank), I see it on the screen when I go in to xfer money between our accounts.

I set up the external bank transfer option last week to my new account at Citizens First. The transferring bank will send small test deposits to your receiving bank account and then return the transferred funds to your original account. This is done to ensure you provided all the correct routing and account numbers. My bank required confirmation by entering the transferred amounts into their website. Works like a charm and no worries about lost checks.

So, does Citizens Bank offer this service? I went online but could not see how to set it up.

Yes. It is on their website under Account Transfer. You will need to establish the account you wish to transfer into.

This is EXACTLY how it can be done. You do NOT have to have your own account at both banks, only one, but there must be a specific account that you are transferring funds to, of course. It's similar to paying bills online. There are no checks involved.
