What is happening to Cody's these days?
It used to be our favorite restaurant but
sometimes the staff is not very friendly.
I am generalizing here but the last 3
times we have visited the restaurant,
it feels like we are being rushed out.
The staff that greets you when you walk
in or that answer the phone can be quite
surly. The food....just okay.
We have not been back for at least 3 months
as we finally got sick and tired of the "attitude".
TGIF has been getting our business because the
staff are so darn personable.

Hopefully you will make it a point to talk to one of the managers and give them a chance to look into it.

First of all resturants will vary from time to time on service and food. Over
all Cody's is quite good. We have had a couple of meals that were not
up to par there and in other eateries too. We have not had a bad experience
there. If you havn't been there in three months what do you mean by "these
days"?

I have found that once the "busy" season is over and things quiet down that customer service goes down for a bit. My reasoning is this. Wait staff is SO busy during the busy season that they don't have time to think and most people wait so long for seating that they just want to eat and maybe have a drink or two without a lot of fuss. THEN, wait staff realizes that they have to be a bit more attentive and have a smile on their face as they are working for less tips during this time because there are less customers. It just takes them a while to adjust their attitudes once things start slowing down. This is by no means a put down to the hard working wait staff, I know that most work very hard and try to keep a smile on their faces.

As per Bonny's suggestion to talk to the manager, the management team at Cody's I feel has always been quick to respond and correct any problem that can be corrected.I'm not that crazy about the food but I've found the manager very receptive to his customers.

I really understand the thought " to speak with the manager if there is a problem" but come on, these are service industries we are talking about. These managers should be fully aware how their employees are treating customers and especially should know what their food is like that they are serving. They are there day in and day out, no excuse as far as I am concerned. I shouldn't have to find the manager for problems. IMHO.

I guess I posted this while in a bad mood, sorry. But, all you need to do is search Cody Problems and you get pages of neg stuff on Cody's as well as other eating places. I just feel these managers must not be competent in running a good establishment. If they did there wouldn't be so many negative comments. While I know to each to his own and you can't please everybody all the time, but shear numbers of complaints have to say something. While I didn't got thru every post, I feel sure a fair number of people complained to the manager. I think managers are getting off too easy.

There are in excess of 100K residents plus other outsiders who come, eat and play in TV. There are small percentage of those residents or visitor's who come on and complain or criticize our eateries. Every bodies tastes are different most come from different areas of the country and lived in those ares for 50 plus years so they're accustomed to a certain type and tast of food. Now they come to TV and people don't want to pay a lot, want the food to taste and be prepared like it was from where they came. Guess what it's not going to happen, get used to TV food and service. After speaking with several bartentenders and wait staff here' s a hint for those that don't know it. They don't get paid a lot in wages, many guests don't tip above 5% and want outstanding service and one other thing as was said at Red Sauce by a customer at the Bar. Your amenity fee does NOT cover tips at the bars and restaurant. Before you jump on me yes the person was told. I posted that part in case there are others that believe that. I have witnessed person at the bar sit there for hours and then leave the loose change. So it works both ways. That explains to some extent why you see bigger turn overs at some establishments. JMO I know I'm going to get beat up on this but as I said I've seen and heard it.

We were sitting at one of our restaurants. A group of 4 ordered 4 drinks. One person was paying. The bill came to $17.73. The "cheapskate" gave a $20.00 bill. Change was $2.27. They put the $2.00 in their pocket & slid the 27 cents over for the bartender. Really ??!!!
I don't cook so we are out every night. It is so disappointing to see some of the Villagers treat the wait staff so bad.

Oh for cripes sake people, does he have to spell it out? What difference does it make who was on the phone? I've experienced the same at Cody's. 3 times and your out in my book. The food stinks, the service is beyond stinky, and as for talking to the management.....he doesn't care. And before you all start asking did you get his name, Yes, we got his name, the waitresses name, and we wrote the owner a long letter. And yes he answered us too....Was just as rude as the help. I will never go back, and I tell people not to go there also. What, the only time the service is better is when the snow birds are here, there are no excuses for bad service and bad food.

I agree with the wait and management concerns. Cody's is my favorite place to go for drinks and music and laughter. We always have a great time at Cody's. I find the food as good most every time.
NOW: That said, I have witnessed James (Manager) being rude to both wait staff and customers on more than one occasion. He seems very cocky the way he talks to people. Just the way he is I guess. I have always had perfect experiences with the bar tenders and most of the wait staff.
SYNOPSIS: I will continue to go as the overall Cody's experience has been very good for us. Managers like James come and go so I will watch for his tail lights. We at TV have lots of GRUMPY old folks and some are very cheap, and I am sure that contributes to the behaver of the staff and management. I understand there is no excuse for rude behaver from staff and especially management, but if we the customers start off with a smile rather than a complaint, we may be better served.

Wow! I agree with everything you say. Cody's is one of our favorite places...it's fun. If we want a quiet, fine dining etc. we go to The Legacy, AP or off campus. If we are going for entertainment, good food (love the bar menu at Cody's, and the salad and fried shrimp are delish!) we go to Cody's! Never had a rude bartender or waitstaff!

I worked in a bar the had a lot of Europeans customers who really do not tip well. When that happen to me - i used to throw the change in the garbage so the customer would see me do it -- used to drive them crazy - looking at the garbage knowing that was there money was now, in the garbage but would not ask me to give it back. sometimes they would say something like "you throw the tip in the garbage" and i would just "yes" and leave it like that. Drove them crazy. Nobody ever went to the manager to complain i throw their tip in the garbage--made me feel great

What on earth was the person thinking. That would be 1 1/2% yes, one and one half percent tip. Mad at the bartender for some reason or just plain out of touch with reality.

Americans are well known for their amazing customer service. Heck
Disney gets well paid to teach a course to anyone who wants to learn
their techniques. This is just one of the many reasons people visit
the U.S. and spend their money which in turn "grows" the economy.
If we receive great customer service, we reward our server with a
30% CASH tip so that he/she gets it right away. We usually put the
rest of the bill on a credit card. I can't tell you the number of times
our appreciative server has told us the nights they work in case we
decided to come back to the restaurant.
We all need to do our small part to keep the economy growing.

I agree with you 100%. A good manager walks around and looks for problems and shouldn't wait until a customer complains about it. I go to restaurants to eat not fix their problems. If I don't like something, I don't go back. The managers are probably sick of the whining and complaining about every little thing that people complain about around here.

It is true and I have witnessed it myself, but still the staff and especially the bar tenders are really good at what they do that includes service and a sense of humor on the side. Give it a try, but avoid the Management if you have a problem and call them, you will be disappointed . HUMMMM. Think I will head down to Cody's for lunch. Love them wings and cold draft.

Not to hijack this thread but a similar question, please.
Yesterday, I went to Sonny's at 3pm and ordered 3 pounds of pulled pork to go (for an evening party). Since it was Happy Hour, I sat down at the bar and ordered myself a draft beer. I had the 2 for 1 beers ($3) and the pulled pork. Total bill with tax was $38.50.
Should I have tipped on the total or just the beer?

If the person getting my drink went & got me the pork, I might have just given a little extra. I wouldn't normally tip on a to go order. Sometimes it might depend on the circumstance.

Just the beer unless Dennis was working. He is a hoot and should get a little extra. Only Kidding, only the beer. What most make a mistake at is tipping only the total bill after using a coupon or some special discount. That incorrectly hurts the wait staff.

When I went by the hostess I mentioned I was going to the car for my readers and she offered me readers from a bag of glasses she had.
Only problem:
Ordered beer and forgot to say we would share so we got 4. We struggled through:)
Wife got Wed. 2 for 1 fajitas. They brought out 1 to the table and the 2nd just before the bill arrived already boxed so we could have it the next day.
Waitress got 20% tip for good service.

Instead of just standing at the bar for almost 10 whole minutes, did you try signalling one of the bartenders with a "come-here" while they looked your way several times? Just a slight wave with your hand, a signal toward your drink glass, or tilt of the chin will get a bartender over to you AT ANY RESTAURANT.

In most places, does the cash tip go right to the server, or into a pool and they split it at the end of the night?

I try to carry cash for tips especially if they give great service. That allows them to have some control of their tips.

If we receive great customer service, we reward our server with a 30% CASH tip so that he/she gets it right away.
This is coming from pure ignorance since I've never worked at a restaurant, but aren't the servers given their tips at the time the credit card is charged?
There have been cases in the news recently of owners (Batali and Bastianich, for example) skimming tips, but I never thought about how the process works for the servers. Thanks for the "tip!" I'll keep it in mind going forward.

For whatever it is worth - was there last week for an LSV.
Stopped in Codys one evening and had a very nice time.
Very friendly and efficient waitress and a good burger.
Just my opinion !

Each restaurant has it's own policy on tips. Some servers
even have to tip out the bar staff. Many restaurants will
only give out the tips on credit card purchases one time per month.
This is why we always tip in cash for the server. Believe me,
they are very appreciative and will remember you the next time
you visit the restaurant.

Many employees(past and present) along with many guests agree that the owner. Not Mgr., is very rude and crude.
I assume if you are talking about past & present employees you used to work there.
