Our son, who's 21, is going to live with us for a year or so while he completes his Associate Degree. I'm wondering if anybody has any advice (or leads...heheh) regarding finding a job in or near TV? Since most of his class work is online, he could even consider full-time work. He'll be doing the usual to try and find work. I'm just looking for any advice you might be able to offer.

And please respect my request to limit posts to employment advice. I'd rather not clutter the thread with a debate on the merits of a young person living here. It's a done deal, it's temporary, and there is no great mystery or trauma involved. :)

Our son was with us for 6 months. Worked for Sonny's and Mallory CC. Not great, but he is out of here and on his way again.

I'm wishing him luck in finding a job, but thought living with you is against the deed restrictions, lets hope a neighbor doesn't report you.

As long as a child is 19 years or older, there is no restriction!!

As for jobs, look in the Daily Sun each day. Best of luck to him!

Have him check the many assisted living facilities in the area if he could handle that type of work. Just met a very nice young man that graduated from the Charter School and worked part time well in high school at Mission Oaks on 301. He is not there full time - I think they have a pretty good turnover so any of these facilities might be hiring.
Good luck - been there done that and he is now applying to school to become a Physician's Assistant.

The poster asked for replies to employment only. Oldtimeman, I am wondering why you could not respect that. Please refer back to your deed restrictions. Her son can live here and actually obtain a non owner residentID. Our 19 year old is a college student and is applying for non owner resident ID. She is allowed to live here

If he's the entrepreneurial sort and is needing some flexibility in his hours, he might try starting his own little service business -- yardwork, cleaning out garages/attics, hauling trash, etc. Lots of physical tasks a 21-year old can do that -- speaking only for my own aged back -- older people don't necessarily want to.

Have him apply to every air conditioning place in a ten/twenty mile radius. Learn the business of repairing air conditioners and he will have a job for life. If he's honest and good he can do it part time/full time. He can always fix his own house in the future. WIN,WIN, SITUATION!

Maybe we should start a club. "Grown children living with us (allowed) who need jobs and something to do"

Not sure if you were serious or not, but that actually sounds like it could be a good idea. There have to be more kids out there than just Grizz's. (and Sharonga's??) Just meeting other kids in a similar position would probably be helpful.

I don't think a young person who is a typical 21 year old needs or wants their parents organizing their social lives. I was making all of my own decisions at that age. Water seeks it's own level and like drifts to like. They will find friends, but employment is more important than friends at this age and stage...for everyone's comfort; the young person, his family and the community.

Idle hands...don'tcha know? AND Money=independent living.

If I were a healthy and not lazy 21 year old male living in this area I would be making a fortune, doing all the lifting, pushing, digging, grunt work in the heat that we have done all of our lives and are wanting to put down now.

Friends just paid two young men to do a number of chores in and around their resale and paid them a LOT for a couple days hard work. Take out an ad in the Sun. "Young man not afraid of work, twenty five dollars an hour." He will have employment in no time.

I need a clue what the young man is interested in? employment is not difficult to find.
I saw a young man struggling to fill out the online ap at Sam's and stopped to help him.
The door person came over and said hello, and then she got a manager to come over, who coached him not to say he only wanted summer work and told him which job they wanted to hire him for and what day to start. This was all without an interview.

Add to that ad "Can put down the smartphone" and "I have hands and I USE 'em".

Have a problem with the "coached him not to say he only wanted summer work" if that was not the truth. Hope I misunderstood.

i recall reading lots of posts here from people who are looking for assistance in off-loading/moving furniture and belongings once they have moved here - might wanna add that to the list of things he is willing to do! seems a buncha folks have lately been looking for someone to tend to weeding landscaping. too. but then, there is that new bakery opening in wildwood - sweet tables - restaurant background or not, might be a possibility as long as he is willing to learn and is committed to working a schedule - never hurts to ask! ;)
