Does anyone know where around TV one can buy different kinds of mushrooms other than the usual button and portobello? I'm looking for shiitake and/or porcini.

My vegetarian niece arrives on Thursday, and I'm making a baked polenta, cheese, & mushroom dish for dinner.

Have you tried Fresh Market??? This might require a road trip to Orlando to Whole Foods... I'm sure they will have them.

Kathie, yes, I tried Fresh Market--no dice. I would even settle for dried that I could reconstitute.

No time to get to Whole Foods, so I guess I will settle for the usuals.

There might be a place in Ocala. I'll see if I can find out.

At the Villages Farmers Mkt.'s there was a man that sold dried mushrooms of all kinds. Wonder if he will be in Spanish Springs on Thursday?

Thanks, both of you. What time is the Villages Farmers Mkt. on Thursday? We have to leave around 2:30 to pick her up at the airport.

Shirlevee probably spelled shiitake leaving one of the two "i's" out and the forum is programmed to ***** blank out anything that resembles a "bad" word, lolol.

Thanks, everyone. I will check for the dried versions of the mushrooms.

And thanks for the laugh, Shirleevee. I intentionally misspelled shih tzu to see what would happen! I didn't know the software did that.

By the way... how did a question about mushrooms morph into a pile of shiitake?

Trader Joes has a wide variety of fresh mushrooms. About an hour drive.

Try the health food store, Lake Nutrition, on Bichara. They carry some fresh items, and will most likely have dried, at least. You might even call and see if they can get some in for you before Thursday.

My daughter is vegan, so we're always trying new dishes when she visits. Have fun!

You a Amazon Prime member? They have a large selection of dried mushrooms you can browse. Delivery is usually pretty quick.. couple of days. We are updating house and ordering stuff from Amazon Prime nearly every day. What a selection of stuff that they have!

Colony Publix has them.

Colony Publix has them.

Patty, right you are. We don't normally shop at Publix but stopped in the Colony store to drop off a prescription for free antibiotics. I found fresh and dried "exotic" mushrooms tucked in a corner of the produce aisle.

Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions. Now I have a list of places to check out.
