I remember, years ago, when everyone freaked out if someone onboard came down with the plain old flu.Floating petri dishes.... Each to his/her own!

And this virus never should made the jump to humans. They mutated it IMO enough natural virus, they don’t need help crossing the bridge.

No cruising for me until this mess is behind us.

Want another on that limits where you can go?

"A required vaccine is one that travelers must have in order to enter a country, based on that country’s government regulations. In most circumstances, yellow fever is the only vaccine required by certain countries. Keep in mind that yellow fever vaccine can be recommended by CDC to protect your health, as well as required by a country. CDC’s recommendation is different from the country’s requirement. A vaccine recommendation is designed to keep you from getting yellow fever; a vaccine requirement is the country’s attempt to keep travelers from bringing the yellow fever virus into the country. Vaccine requirements can change at any time, because country governments control those decisions." (from CDC website)

At it's peak, about 30 million people traveled on cruise ships each year. The numbers are obviously way down and may stay that way for some time. While it is possible that a variant will develop on a cruise ship where essentially everyone is fully vaccinated, my money is on future variants coming from the 5.8 billion people (about 75% of the world's population) who have not yet been fully vaccinated.

I think we must admit now that the vaccinated can contract the virus and give it to others, but it keeps symptoms manageable for most, but not all. Another question I have is can you get it again? We have no clue as to whether those who have the spike protein antibodies from the vaccine but also get COVID anyway will acquire natural immunity so you don't get the same virus twice. I think not.

Wanna bet that a vaccine resistant and dangerous variant will originate on a cruise ship? I hope I lose that bet but unfortunately I don't think I will.

A nasty variant might come from the unvaccinated - or because of the vaccines themselves. There's a couple of different theories about that.

However, I can't get it out of my mind that COVID came from the cruise ships onto the U.S. mainland. The crew and passengers visit various ports of call around the world and they pick stuff up along the way. It's actually quite logical, but I'm just saying for those who fear contact with the virus in any form should not cruise.

27 people aboard Carnival cruise test positive for COVID-19

Wow, 99.98% of the crew were vaccinated, and 26 of them got covid.

It's a pandemic of the unvaccinated I tell you! (sarcasm)

How could this happen?

Obviously, someone boarded the ship and already had covid, most likely a crew member. Maybe all the crew got Pfizer shots? Maybe some of them forged a vaccine card to keep their job?

So...99.98% of a ship's crew is vacinated. How'd they come up with that number? Better phase might be where did they pull that one out of???:girlneener:

I read the article and the 26 people with Covid were not crew members. It said 99.98 percent of the crew were vaccinated. Break through infections are most common in those over 65 or in people with weakened immune systems who have had treatment for cancer or are taking medications that cause the body to have a weak immune response. I would only sail with a cruise line that did not allow any unvaccinated passengers/crew to sail. That means no children or unvaccinated guests. Cruise ships have a high number of people in a relatively small area and viruses can spread rapidly.

In the situation where the death data reporting system either cannot or will not distinguish between a death by covid and a death with covid, how much credence should we put in the reported results of 'covid tests'.

none

And that is when shi. hits the fan. The repercussions of that would be catastrophic for this country

Which states have no pediatric beds? None that I am aware of.
