If you met me in public, you’d probably like me. I’m likable and personable and I’m a good listener. I’ve written ten books on architectural history. The world would probably call me “successful.”

I’m a nationally known expert in a goofy little niche topic, and I had a good run with my crazy career, and I know that my books have brought many people much joy.

I’m also autistic (high functioning) and bright lights and loud noises are extremely painful to me. In fact, my body interprets loud noises as physical pain. My wiring is a bit different from “normies.”

Being around large groups of people is very difficult.

Online shopping changed my life. Instacart is a dream come true for me. I won’t venture into Walmart unless the need is urgent.

I think it’s wonderful that they’re considering this and implementing it. And the real question is, how does it hurt anyone else if they create a couple hours of “a more peaceful atmosphere”?

That "amazing memory" comes with a splash of autism. To answer your question, loud noises (and lawn mowers and leaf blowers ) are very disruptive and disturbing. I'm grateful for the quietude of The Villages - and it IS quiet - most of the time!

It's part of the reason I'm here.

Thank you for sharing this.

I admire your brilliance and your focus, which have obviously brought you a lot of success.

Maybe you should update the original post. People tend to reply to the original post, so updating your new view should be posted there.

Anything you read on the internetwebz or on your Newsmax or Stormfront or Fox News or anti-whatever cable show that includes that word "woke" in their conversation sets you into a rabid, mouth-frothing tizzy and you just can't help yourself in posting here about it. You don't care what the topic is, it's a reaction to the word.

That is your real opinion. Your opinion is noted.

"Stormfront"???

Now, you're calling him a "white supremacist"?

Your opinion is noted...

The OP would have to actually want to do that. They've been a member of this forum for years, and know they can edit their own posts.

While this is true, the word Woke" also triggers a predictable reaction on your side also. This is kind of the pot and the kettle. Maybe both of you need to take a step back on your reactions.

Thank you for the kind words.

The world is full of people with all kinds of peccadilloes and eccentricities, and heaven knows, I am the poster child for being a “half bubble off plumb”!

I’m hopeful that I’ll soon meet other “gentle-natured souls” here in The Villages.

Your post made me smile. Thank you!!

I think most Villagers are gentle natured souls unlike the few that post here on TOTV. Almost everyone that I have met in person has been very pleasant.

We always thought our oldest grandson was just a kid who acted out, and needed better control. In reality he was diagnosed at age 4 with high functioning spectrum, at 25 he still keeps appointments with his initial savior.

I admit at times some children can be a distraction, but then I look at that parents face, and wish them a better tomorrow

I think this world needs a little more empathy as well as compassion.

While you are shouting out orders, please take time to re-read my post below — that I wrote yesterday in response to that extremely angry opener of this thread.

Here it is:

And, now, please look at the post below that blames the writer of “the news snippet.” HAH! That writer was just doing his job — which is to throw together half-truths and/or plain dysinformation, to elicit a furious response from readers who fall for it, and it’s so easy to get those knee-jerk reactions.

Look at this. It’s pure cause and effect. Take a deep breath, think, and own it. The post below proves my point.

Boomer

Anyway, here it is:

Yep. There it is — admitted — cause and effect.

Seriously, I meant it when I said, “Heal Thyself.” Arrogant, hateful, reactionary tirades, time after time, are not good for anybody. Don’t buy into things that promote dehumanization. It’s all around us now, out in the open. Please pay attention. Think.

Boomer

Sorry, but you couldn't be further off the mark if you tried.

There is nothing arrogant or hateful about getting the COMPLETE information about a change in store policy and adjusting accordingly.

If you were referring to the original post that I erroneously assumed was some policy to placate the woke idiots, yes it was hateful. And EVERY post I make about these idiots that are trying to destroy our country will be "hateful", "arrogant", "hypercritical" and a whole lot more.

But once again for the record: I support Walmart's actions to lessen the sensory burden on the autistic and anyone else that has trouble dealing with loud noise and bright lights.

As far as the woke idiots go---res ipsa loquitur

Yes, you are almost correct. It's not that "the word" woke triggers an ugly side, it is that woke itself is ugly and destructive. And how anybody can actually buy into that crap is way beyond my understanding.

But thank you for your "real opinion", although we all already knew what it was.

You are probably correct. But I look at this as a "teaching moment" so I can point out what happens when people don't read the entire post.

The word "woke" usually only means what the writer's spin on it is. There is little common ground.

Personally they should have all kinds of books in libraries to get into how it is to walk in other's shoes. That does seem to be "woke" to some put is looking out for the needs of all people in the community rather than letting the loudest voices get their way of censoring what is in libraries.

Maybe I'm confused as to what "woke" means as well, beyond the dictionary definition.

To my understanding, and any of the "woke" folks out there can correct this if wrong, the "woke movement" stands for:

Open borders
Sanctuary cities
Defunding the police
"Free" college tuition
Student loan forgiveness
Spending $130 trillion to combat "climate change"
Ending all fossil fuels

Or, in other words, the total destruction of the America I love

In other words, you have absolutely no idea what "woke" means, other than what was shoveled to you by the "alternative facts" machine.

You also have no idea what "defunding the police" means - but again, I refer you to my previous sentence.

The borders aren't open. No one wants open borders. Not anyone. Not even communists. Certainly not "woke" people.

I am "woke." And calling me an idiot doesn't make you right, or put you on a higher rung of the social ladder. But the name calling is just childish, unbecoming of any adult, let alone a self-proclaimed doctor.
