That is to say, it looks like it is a very tiny percentage of the population that is rioting and looting or marching. I lived within two hours of Philadelphia for 34 years, and while I avoided going there as much as possible, I was there two or three dozen times. A huge percentage of the African-American population are hard workers with nice houses spreading over many miles. There are also appalling slums with run-down housing and what seem to be run-down people. Those areas scare me. The same goes for many cities. Don’t assume that everyone is looting.

Here is a proposal I’ve come up with. The U.S. government should offer “reparations” of $1,000 a month per person for 25 years only available to descendants of slaves from Africa and only if they live in South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, or Louisiana. Those states, the Deep South, were responsible for the great majority of Africans brought here, and they are close to being majorities in these states today. If this were done, millions who are barely getting by would move south. Those African-Americans remaining in the north would be prospering and law-abiding, living the American Dream. In the Deep South, African-Americans would soon become the majority everywhere. By voting, they could assure that nearly every legislator, judge, or office holder of any sort would be African-American. They would be responsible for their own fate. Nearly all police officers would be African-American, too. They could make their own laws and have their own justice system that they consider fair. Many European-Americans might choose to leave, but this would leave housing and jobs available for those moving to the area. Some would consider the money enough to live on, if they are in a family setting, without working. For others, the extra money would be enough on top of a salary to live well. The cost to the taxpayers nationwide might be offset by savings In the costs for police, prisons, welfare, schools, etc. The infrastructure in the Deep South or airports, roads, factories, farms, hospitals, etc. would help this work.

You have to be kidding?

Sorry, but you are wrong. It IS self defense. And it was NOT murder as you stated. It was a justified shooting according to the video and the statements. Too bad the looters can't be shot on sight also. During Martial Law, looters could be shot a few years ago. That stopped a lot of the cr@p going on that is out of control today.

Dilligas 10-28-2020 09:52 AM

150 years ago, the 'sheriff' would have roped the suspect and dragged him to the jail....no shooting and not danger to the sheriff. Either way, the law enforcement officers have to protect the public and themselves. They can not sit the suspect down for mental evaluation before acting.

It's not "racism" if the police kill a criminal that is black. It's racism if they kill him BECAUSE he is black.

tvmurray 10-28-2020 10:00 AM

The police did nothing wrong.

How many murders have been done with a kitchen knife? Don't see anything wrong. It is open season on police officers. Don't see any protests for kids killed in gang drive by shootings. Just a lame excuse to destroy and steal !

Hypothetically, let's put the shoe on the other foot - what if their point of view is that, "no Black person will ever be safe until the police are brought under control"? Given the Jim Crow History of the US, I for one would not blame them. You see how EMPATHY and just simple Christianity can highlight a different viewpoint and add some clarity to ANY situation. PLEASE, Please, take just some small amount of time and PRETEND that you are Black and how your world view would change. Long ago, a man used good makeup to appear to be Black to see how others treated him differently. Then he wrote a book. Maybe now is the time to ask Santa for THAT book under all our Christmas trees. What if the law REQUIRED every white person in the US to put on that Black makeup just ONE day out of the year. Would your post be so hateful?.......could you maintain that hate? ...........I don't think so!

Lots of people here will want to write that they just HATE the looting, NOT the looters. I will save you that exercise. Or is it just a rationalization?

Very impressive plan. There will be naysayers on this forum. But, I say kudos to you! AT the minimum, you showed empathy and went the extra mile by proposing SOME kind of a plan. You, at least, are RECOGNIZING the problem, which is the 1st part of any solution. ANY plan would be better than NO plan! .......I liked Andrew Yang's proposal of giving everyone $1000 per month because it would be easy to implement. I would have added, "only for families making under $200,000 per year". But any version of his plan is a good start.

Sorry, but that dog don't hunt. Put myself in a black person's shoes? It's not your fault that you don't know me, but you are assuming. Now, try this one on for size. Put yourself in the Chinese shoes that built the railroad, etc. Put yourself in the shoes of our American Indians (indigenous Americans). Put yourself in the shoes of the Japanese that were institutionalized (to put it nicely) in camps during WWII. Put yourself in the shoes of the WHITE indentured servants that were before the black slaves. Sorry, but everyone has an excuse for bad behavior if they search for justification and rationalization. The law does not stipulate ethnicity. Believe me when I say that honest, law abiding Americans of any color or gender want law enforcement, not pity from those that feel they are better than them. If you wish to empathize with a minority, try empathizing with those that are law abiding and are embarrassed by the thuggery of the criminal element.

Weren't there three jet airplanes hijacked and crashed into buildings resulting in the deaths of thousands of people by people using box cutters? 911 rings a bell with me. Maybe it's just my faulty old memory playing tricks on me.

If family didn't want police action then they should have taken the chance and disarmed him themselves. Don't think so.

The bipolar thing is NOT just an excuse - it means that just maybe he did NOT get the proper medical treatment for his problem, maybe he should be in an institution? But, America decided to save money in 1980 by avoiding its responsibility and then closed many such institutions. Thus, throwing many such bipolar individuals out into the street saying, "fend for yourself, sucker". All countries have problem people with mental health needs. The US is notoriously negligent and uncaring for its citizens in this regard. The US should be looking at how the Scandinavian countries and others handle mental health.

Have you EVER had to try and take down someone with a knife? I didn't think so! When I was a Military Policeman it took me and two other guys to disarm a drunk soldier who was trying to cut us with a straight razor. The only reason we weren't cut was because he was quite drunk and not in full control of his body. It was in the MP station where he pulled the razor on one of my desk crew. Working on the desk we weren't armed so he was extremely lucky we weren't armed because I would have shot him. We were extremely lucky that none of us were cut, had he been sober it might have had a different ending. Armchair warriors with no experience

But alas, the mayors and governors in some states not only encourage these behaviors, they support these criminals and the consequences are next to nothing. Until this chaos is dealt with, it will continue. Antifa and BLM use this excuse of the killing of a black man, even though he was wielding a knife and coming towards the police which got him shot., so they can steal and destroy cities throughout our country.

That kind of rhetoric is going to ultimately lead to a Dictatorship. America is best with moderation and not excessive right or left leanings. Too much to either side is an America that both you and I would NOT like.

Sounds like a sure way to turn half the US into a 3rd world country. Try that and the secession parade begin.
