Personally, I do not see the big deal. A few folks got over heated and made some regrettable remarks, period. It happens every day, somewhere. I did not really wish to move here from the wooded area I had made my home after retirement, but made the choice so that my spouse could be happy. I do not regret my decision and thoroughly enjoy my retirement here. What others think about this place has absolutely NO bearing on my feelings about The Villages. Heated responses related to politics is entertaining. I have a neighbor that is usually quite pleasant, until someone mentions our president. Then she becomes Mr(s) Hyde and starts foaming at the mouth, spittle flying and considerably vulgar with her language. It is almost as if she was demon possessed. Other than that, she is exceedingly pleasant and a very good neighbor.
The point is that everyone has their own opinion and should not be "classed" when it comes to political leanings. I do not understand the opposition's reasoning against this president and just write it off to misplaced priorities. Apparently, appearances and personality is more important than accomplishments. But, I digress.
TV is not blemished by the publicity of one or two heated and out of control folks. If you want to see attempts to diminish the success of this outstanding place, simply subscribe to that rag that we cannot mention on here. Daily disparaging reports linked to individuals with their mug shot posted on the front page, and the insinuation that these miscreants are TV residents. DUI arrests, Domestic abuse arrests, indecent acts, etc. While one TV newspaper is positive and inspiring, we have an outsider rag set with the intention of destroying the successful reputation of The Villages. In my opinion, there are always those that are jealous of folks like us that are happy residents here.
If someone was to ask me about the incident (they haven't yet) I would simply respond that we have folks from all over the country that RENT or purchase here. I add that I am quite happy here and completely understand if they feel too intimidated by some minor incident to visit us. I tell them that if not for the media's biased reporting, I wouldn't even have known the incident occurred.
Some folks insist on scratching at an itch until it bleeds. Those folks demonstrated that we have folks from all walks of life living here. We are not Stepford.
