Someone was talking about 2nd Amendment rights and I pointed out the difficulty of owning a machine gun. Personally, I would be fine with having the same regulations for all rapid fire weapons as machine guns.

As long as the restrictions were enforced, sure. Unfortunately many of the laws and restrictions aren't enforceable. What they need to do is remove the rules that -can't- be enforced, and create ones that can.

And enforce consequences for violations, which are absolutely not enforced equally among all violators.
